Chapter 23 The alarm goes off. It’s 5.45 am. That’s more dramatic than a quarter to six. The five makes it early. The way something that costs $5.99 sounds cheaper than $6. I’m focusing on the five as I get up. I have a routine inspection at seven. I have slept yesterday’s negative feelings away, but I have the need to make a point. I need to acknowledge the sacrifice I am making – playing the martyr feels good and I admit I am smug. Even so, this is a ridiculous hour. The time is at the tenant, Susan’s, request. She has her own business and needs to be there to open up. I understand that, and I understand her need to be on site while I do the inspection. It’s her home and her pets’ home and I do get it that she doesn’t want anyone poking around when she is not there. It is not just me.
