Chapter. 1
CHAPTER ONE
Elsa
I panted heavily as I ran away from him, the man of my nightmares, my own mate himself. I couldn't do this anymore, I couldn't keep up with all he had been doing to me and the moment he left the room to attend to the attack on the borders of the pack, I knew it was my cue to leave.
I had no slightest idea of where I was going because I had never stepped a foot out of the pack before, but I would rather end my life in the woods than stay one more minute with Brandon and his b***h of a fiancee.
I was getting out of breath, but I knew I had to keep running since it was a matter of time before he realized that I had escaped and started searching for me. That was my thought until I heard the snapping of twigs and the groaning of a person.
I stopped instantly, my eyes searching for the direction of the sound I had just heard and there he was, staring at me as well. My heart began beating rapidly as I took a step closer to take a good look at him.
"H- help," he groaned out in pain and that was when I noticed the wounds on his body. Different kinds of cuts, burns and bites and it was only a miracle that he was still alive. "P- please," he added. I stood there for a while, contemplating on whether I should help him or not. He could be a terrorist for all I knew and I wasn't in a safe position either to save someone.
I took a few steps back in an attempt to leave, only to turn back, unable to do so again.
" f**k, " I blurted out because I knew I was making a big mistake, but I wasn't in danger yet, right?
" Are you okay? " I asked upon getting to where he was, but as he opened his mouth to say something, he fell unconscious. " Hey! Can you hear me? " I asked again, shaking him vigorously, but I got no response.
After confirming if he was alive or not, I placed my hands on his chest and closed my eyes, releasing the last energy in me inside of him. As soon as I was done, l fell beside him as my eyes got heavy. The last thing on my mind before giving into darkness was the fact that I was able to save someone one last time.

I woke up with a banging headache, only to find out that the man I helped last night was nowhere to be found. I instantly stood up from the ground and began to search around for him.
" Looking for me? " I heard someone say and I turned back, only to see him standing behind me, completely healed.
" Where have you been?" I questioned, walking up to him and he let out a chuckle.
" Miss, I don't think I'm obligated to answer that, " he replied, a smile plastered on his face.
" You're not fully healed yet, I used up my last energy healing you, you should be thankful and stick your ass in one place, " I spat out and I knew that didn't sit well with him, upon seeing the frown on his face.
" Language, " he growled, his voice deeper than usual. I lowered my head in apology, unable to say anything. " You were sleeping soundly when I woke up and someone had to find something for us to eat, " he added and I looked up, only to see that his smile had returned.
" I was just trying…… " I tried to say, but he cut me off and walked past me without saying anything, dragging the dead grasscutter with him.
" Thank you for saving me, I wasn't expecting you to do so, " he spoke up after he had roasted the meat and we were now having breakfast. I paused for a moment, twitching my lips as I pondered whether I should ask him or not.
" I don't mean to pry, but I can't help but be curious, " I started and he turned to me with a smile.
"I know what you're trying to ask, but would you also tell me if I asked why you were in the woods so late at night when you belong to a pack?" He asked and I pursed my lips together, saying nothing while I continued munching on my breakfast which I suddenly found delicious.
"Do you have a mate?" He questioned and I nodded my head in quick response. "Is he dead?" I shook my head, my eyes getting watery. I let out a stifled laugh, fanning my face with my hands in an attempt to send back the tears.
"I don't know why I'm sweating so much like this," I commented, feeling rather embarrassed that he had seen me like this.
"Crying doesn't make you weak, you know. You can let it out and no one would know you ever did,". I bursted into tears as soon as I heard his words, letting out everything through my cries. I couldn't believe I was crying in front of a stranger, but oddly, I felt relieved that I had someone to cry to.
He placed his hands lightly on my back and tapped repeatedly, as the tears, which refused to stop, kept coming out.
" I'm sorry, " I apologized after a while and he chuckled.
" For what? " He asked and I bit my lower lip, thinking of why I apologized in the first place. "Why did you apologize when you had nothing to be sorry for? What have you gone through?" He added after a moment of me saying nothing, muttering the last part, even though I heard him and pretended not to.
We both stayed silent, staring at each other for a while, like we had both run out of words to say that we had to speak with our eyes.
"You're not saying anything," he pointed out.
"And neither are you," I fired back in a calm tone as his look on me intensified.
Suddenly, it became so uncomfortable for me, but instead of trying to stop, I didn't bulge from my position. His eyes trailed down to my lip and I subconsciously licked it.
"f**k," he muttered before placing his arms on my waist and pulling me closer, his lips touching mine instantly.
