Chapter1: The Accident
It’s already 11:00 am on Saturday and Daddy is not home yet. He called me yesterday when he was boarding his private jet to tell me he was coming home yesterday. It is not in Daddy’s nature to miss appointments, especially not one as important as coming to see his princess.
I called his assistant, but she said she had been staying back in Los Angeles for business… daddy’s numbers were switched off.
Just as I was all in my thoughts, the doorbell rang and, as the ‘maid’ and the only one at home, I went to get to the door.
Two police officers came to sight with another man in a black suit. One of the police officers asked, “Is this Mr. Harper's residence… your father’s plane was in an accident, and he is currently at the city memorial hospital.”
I was losing my breath as the tears were choking me and then I blacked out.
It’s been 2 months and daddy is still in a coma. My stepmother and sister do not seem to care what happens to him. They do not visit the hospital nor do they call the doctor to know about the present condition of his health. All they still care about is their lifestyle and money.
Bryan, on the other hand, had graduated, although we did not have the big ceremony as planned. He goes to the office to keep the business running and also comes by the hospital to make sure I eat something and check on the condition of our father.
I cannot believe that the same woman gave birth to good and evil.
In the last week, Bryan came to the hospital very late and exhausted. Whenever I try to find out what the problem is, he says all is well, but I see in his eyes that all is not well.
It’s Friday and I planned to spend my whole weekend with Daddy, so after school, I rushed home to pack a sleeping bag. The house was busier than usual. My first thought was Hailey wanted to have one of her famous parties, but something felt off.
However, I packed my bag and was heading down the stairs when Bryan called my name. He was standing at the very top of the stairs and asked to see me briefly.
When I got to him, he looked very sad and tired. He told me that we had guests coming for dinner, hence the cleaning and cooking, and he wanted me to be present during the dinner. It almost sounded like he was begging me.
I agreed to the dinner on the condition that he drop me at the hospital after dinner. I went to my room to get ready, and I saw a lady standing there with a clothes rack full of dresses. She said my brother sent her to get me ready for dinner.
I was excited about the makeover but also curious about whom these special guests were that required me to have a makeover.
We were all sitting in the living room when the guests arrived. The housekeeper opened the door and Bryan, followed by the rest of us, went to the door to welcome the guest. I was su
During the dinner, I learned the elderly man and woman were siblings and the lady was his granddaughter. Soon after, dinner was offered and everyone moved to the living room. All of a sudden, all their faces became serious before I could ask Bryan anything, Mr. Holland (the elderly man) spoke up.
He asked Bryan “where do we discuss the contact, Mr. Harper?”
