Alvarez pov
"Gilbert what was that about?" I let out in a whiz, finally able to take a deep breath with Amanda out of the office.
"There's no good enough explanation for what I did, but I can assure you she's fit for the role and she needs this."
I released a deep breath, stood to my feet and began pacing around my office.
"You screwed up, Gilbert." I turned to him and guilt was written all over his face.
His hands ran through his hair as he looked up at me. "I know. I'm sorry but that doesn't change the fact that you're a prick. Come on, all those tough questions for over twenty applicants?" A sneer formed on his lips and I smirked.
"You know we need the right hands for the job." I said and plopped back on my seat.
I swerved around as my mind went back to Amanda.
"Amanda." I tested her name on my lips. Merely saying it sent a volcano of goosebumps up my skin.
"Yes, Amanda. She's good. I checked up her records in her previous jobs. Here, let me show you."
Gilbert scooted closer with his tablet and began opening up a website.
I zoned out from whatever he was showing me as I thought of the woman that just appeared in my life and is about to turn my whole world upside down.
Amanda. My mate. A human was my f*****g mate. The moon goddess got to be kidding me! I rubbed my hands on my knee, as the erection that had grown tight in my pants was beginning to go lax. The urge to bury myself deep inside her since I set my eyes on her in the elevators is nothing I've ever felt before.
I've always known how strong the mate bond was, but nothing prepared me for this moment. Her eyes, lips, they were enthralling… I shook my head to clear off the pictures from my mind.
What I should be trying to figure out is if she's really human. There's not even a trace of werewolf whiff on her. I couldn't sense her wolf. How's that possible?
For most of my life, I've been in the human world with Gilbert ever since we discovered this world but the sudden death of my father, the Alpha of Blackstone pack is now pulling me back home. I've built an empire here in the human world and I can't allow all of it to rot because I need to go back to the werewolf world to play Alpha. I came here to conduct an interview and pick the best as the new CEO of BAP Group but here I am, dealing with finding my mate who's also one of the applicants. This is all crazy.
"How did you find her, do you know her, is she a friend, your girlfriend?"
I gritted my teeth at the mere thought that Amanda may be Gilbert's girlfriend. We are childhood friends and buddies and have no secrets between us but our love life is a whole different ball game. We screw any woman we like when we go to the club on Fridays and the issue of finding a mate is close to zero having spent most of our lives here in the human world.
"Noo! She's a lady I met and helped a few days ago. Crazy story" He said with all hint of seriousness and I leaned back on my seat.
"Tell me all about it." I said and he began.
This better be good because there's only two werewolves in this human world, Gilbert and I. Maybe I can get a hint.
"So she's at your guest house now?" I asked as he finished.
He nodded.
I didn't like that at all. But staying at Gilbert's meant she was protected but I wanted her by my side, where I would see her always and protect her from the evils of this world.
"But Alvarez, forget the sentiments. She's good. You've seen her track records. She's good for the role."
I scratched my hair. Records? I wasn't even paying attention.
"Call her back in." I said without thinking.
The door opened a few minutes later and Gilbert and Amanda slowly made their way back in.
I stared at her and looked away after her eyes met mine.
Gosh! This is torturous. I don't think I can do this. I can't. No, I can. I'll try my best. It's all I've always done, try my f*****g best even if it seems like mission impossible.
"Sit." I said and forced my face up.
If I don't want to appear weak, I need to look and act like the boss.
"What you did was wrong. You never should have accepted what Gilbert gave to you."
She looked back down at the desk and tucked some strands of hair behind her ears.
Oh, how I want to do that myself too.
My wolf was eager to touch her, feel her, claim and mark her as mine. And it was confused on why none of that was happening. This is a lot of self control to wield in a day. Gosh!
"Where did you grow up?"
"Ohio." She said in a small voice. I must have scared her off with all those scowling earlier on.
"Parents?"
A small frown creased her face which I found cute.
"What do you mean exactly?"
"Do you have parents, where are your parents?"
"Alvarez!" Gilbert called out and gave me a slight punch on my ribs from under the desk.
"I've had different foster parents. I moved to New York for college and I've been here ever since."
Ohio, foster parents. Now that's something to dig on. The desire to ask more questions was hitting on me but I held myself back.
"Consider yourself hired, then." I said and gave out the least smile I could come up with.
She batted her lashes, with a perplexed look on her face while darting her eyes from me to Gilbert.
I stood to my feet. "Welcome aboard, Miss Amanda. You're the new CEO of BAP Group and in the next few days, there would be an onboarding process. For the meantime, Gilbert would put you through all the nitty-gritty of the business."
I stretched out my hands for a handshake and she took it reluctantly. I drew back my hand the moment our skin made contact. She stared at me in shock. She felt it too. She felt it. But she was cold like every other human.
The air in my office grew thick as my pants got tighter too. My wolf was demanding to feel and claim our mate.
"See you both later, I've got to run." I said and took off from the woman that was already pulling down all my walls.
