Alvarez pov
"All set, Alpha Alvarez?" Gilbert said from behind me and I groaned.
"I get it, I'm Alpha but can you stop calling me that?"
"You better get used to it now," he said as he picked up an apple from a bowl and began munching on it.
"Asshole." I said in a low tone but loud enough for him to hear it. "Go get your luggages. We leave in five." I said and left for my bedroom.
I went to the window and peered through, but there was still no sign of her.
My bedroom window was adjacent to the master's bedroom window in Amanda's house but it's been two days and I haven't seen any sign of her moving around in her room.
I've only managed to see her at the company but that'd be brief. My COO and directors are the ones setting her on board.
But why the hell do I want her in her bedroom?
Because she's our mate. My wolf growled at me.
No, I have a betrothed waiting for me in Blackstone pack. Sophia, daughter of the pack's beta, Waldo.
I shut the windows angrily. For all I know, she may be in the office working her ass off, and that's exactly what I want in order not for the company to fall to the ground.
The idea that I have a mate dies here. In Blackstone, I'm going to be someone else with a heavier responsibility because the werewolf world is nothing like the human world. And that's going to reduce my chances of seeing Amanda frequently.
I ignored the ache in my chest and went downstairs to Gilbert.
"You look like a mess." He said upon seeing me.
I sighed and led the way out of the house to our waiting cab. We can't travel with our car because the car can't go through the portal that leads us to our world.
"Whatever is biting at you should be sorted before we go through the portal." He whispered as the driver started the car. "This time around, you aren't going to Blackstone pack as the pampered Alpha's son that tours around the werewolf world but as their new Alpha. It's going to be tough man, but that's why you've got me."
"Don't forget you're coming back here."
"Yeah, yeah, I know that but before I come back, we have to keep stern faces together so nobody messes with you." He said and I smiled.
But it's not so easy to pretend my mate doesn't exist. For the first time ever, I feel like I'm leaving another part of me behind.
"Whew… we are a few minutes away from home." Gilbert said as we alighted from the cab.
"Guess you're the only one that's excited."
"You should be too. Alpha is a big and envied position."
We began walking down the road to the path that led to the woods.
"Why should I? The werewolf world is nothing compared to everything we enjoy here. I don't know who our enemies are, I need to get more alliances and deal with animals that mediation means war to."
Gilbert laughed, "don't know about you, but all of those give me a high adrenaline rush. It's where I truly feel alive. Where I'm me."
I sighed. "I get the feeling too but sometimes it can be too much."
We got to our tree after walking in the woods for a while.
Gilbert rubbed his hands on a spot of the tree's bark.
"Are you ready?" He turned to me.
I held up my hand, took a deep breath before closing my eyes.
Amanda. Gosh, this is hard! It was eating me raw. I didn't reject her but the pain I'm going through is similar to that of rejection.
"Let's go." I said as I tried to make the images of her blurry in my mind.
He tapped on the tree five times in a rhythmic pattern and within a second, bright lights twirled around and formed as a door before us. The light kept spinning around the door till it opened and we were both pulled inside with great force.
"Roughest ride ever." Gilbert said as he stood to his feet, dusting sand off his body.
I smirked and buried my hands in my pockets.
"How do you always do that?"
"Do what?" I asked, feigning ignorance.
"Enough of the cocky attitude, but one day you would lose composure after a ride."
"Never going to happen." I said.
"Let's hope so." He said through gritted teeth.
Our eyes scanned the quiet forest. I took in a deep breath of the air. It was refreshing and different from what we had in the city. This was so good and free from pollution.
"Welcome home, Alpha Alvarez."
"Now I would be getting an earful of that, right?" I said with annoyance.
"You already know that."
We walked to the road to get a cab that would take us to the pack house.
"You're the only one permitted to call me Alvarez."
"Why?" He asked.
I scanned the road. It was unusually quiet and there was no sign of any cab.
"Because it's just going to be weird. You've addressed me as Alvarez all your life."
"Well, I don't mind."
"No, this isn't about you but me, and enough of the Alpha title talk. Don't you think this is a bit weird? There are no cars on the road. What's going on?"
"Yeah, I'm a little nervous. Was only trying to tease you to ease off the tension but you've ruined that, thank..."
I held up my hand and gestured for him to be quiet. "Did you hear that?" I whispered.
"What?" He asked and looked around.
"I don't think we are alone." I turned around and scanned the woods we had just walked out from.
No cars, no wolves, just sheer quietness. This is getting real creepy.
"Arghh!!" I jumped and turned around to see Gilbert falling to the ground. An arrow was stuck to his chest.
What the heck! I growled and began shifting but it was too late. I yelled out in pain as an arrow struck my stomach.
For the first time, I wanted to run away from duty to the human world which is much safer and lead the BAP Group with my mysterious human mate by my side. But it's too late for that. I was slowly dying with no idea of who had shot me within a few minutes of stepping foot in Blackstone pack.
Amanda. Her pair of blue dove eyes is all I see as I slowly breathed my last
