‎‎ CHAPTER ONE:‎‎The Night Everything Changed‎‎I never thought my life could change in one night.‎‎One minute, I was sitting on the cold floor of my tiny room, counting the last money I had left.‎₦2,500.‎‎That was all.‎‎I laughed bitterly, wiping my tears quickly before they could fall again. Life wasn’t supposed to be this hard. Not when I was trying. Not when I was doing everything right.‎‎“Maybe I’m just unlucky,” I whispered to myself.‎‎My phone buzzed suddenly.‎‎I picked it up, hoping, just maybe,it was good news.‎‎But it wasn’t.‎‎“You’ve been evicted. Please vacate the apartment tomorrow.”‎‎My chest tightened.‎‎“Of course…” I muttered, dropping the phone beside me.‎‎That night, I didn’t sleep.‎‎I couldn’t.‎‎I kept thinking about how everything was falling apart… school, money, my life.‎‎Around 11 PM, my best friend called me.‎‎“Come out,” she said. “Let’s go somewhere. You need to clear your head.”‎‎I didn’t want to go.‎‎But staying alone with my thoughts felt worse.‎‎So I agreed.‎‎That was my first mistake.‎‎‎The club was loud. Too loud.‎‎Lights flashing, people dancing, laughter everywhere.‎‎It felt like a different world.‎‎I sat quietly, holding my drink, watching everyone else pretend to be happy.‎‎“Relax,” my friend nudged me. “Tonight, forget your problems.”‎‎I forced a smile.‎‎If only it were that easy.‎‎Not long after, a tall man walked in.‎‎The entire room shifted.‎‎Whispers.‎‎Attention.‎‎Power.‎‎I didn’t know who he was… but everyone else clearly did.‎‎Our eyes met for just a second.‎‎And for some reason… my heart skipped.‎‎I quickly looked away.‎‎People like him and people like me?‎We don’t exist in the same world.‎‎I should’ve remembered that.‎‎Because the next morning…‎‎I woke up in a place I had never seen before.‎‎Soft bed. Expensive room. Silence.‎‎And a ring on my finger.‎‎My heart stopped.‎‎“What…?”‎‎The door opened.‎‎And he walked in.‎‎Cold. Calm. Dangerous.‎‎“You’re finally awake,” he said.‎‎I swallowed hard.‎‎“Who are you…?”‎‎He looked at me like I already belonged to him.‎‎“I’m your husband.”‎

Chapter 2
‎✍️ Chapter 2: ‎ A Marriage I Don’t Remember ‎ ‎My heart pounded so loudly, I was sure he could hear it. ‎ ‎“Husband?” I repeated, my voice shaking. “That’s not funny.” ‎ ‎He didn’t smile. ‎ ‎Didn’t even blink. ‎ ‎“I don’t joke about things like this,” he said calmly, walking further into the room like he owned it… like he owned me. ‎ ‎I stepped back immediately. ‎ ‎“No. No, this is wrong. I don’t even know you!” I snapped, panic rising in my chest. “I think you’re confusing me with someone else.” ‎ ‎His gaze darkened slightly. ‎ ‎“You signed the papers,” he said. “You said yes.” ‎ ‎“I would NEVER marry someone I just met!” I fired back. ‎ ‎“Yet you did,” he replied, his voice low and controlled. ‎ ‎My head started spinning. ‎ ‎Fragments of last night flashed through my mind, the drink… the music… laughter… a blurry figure in front of me… a pen in my hand… ‎ ‎“No…” I whispered, clutching my head. “No, I didn’t mean it…” ‎ ‎He watched me closely, like I was something fragile… or maybe something dangerous. ‎ ‎“You were very clear,” he continued. “You needed money. I offered help. You agreed to my terms.” ‎ ‎My stomach dropped. ‎ ‎Money. ‎ ‎That word hit me hard. ‎ ‎“What… what kind of terms?” I asked slowly, fear creeping into my voice. ‎ ‎He reached into his pocket and pulled out a folded document, placing it on the table. ‎ ‎“Read it.” ‎ ‎My hands trembled as I picked it up. ‎ ‎Every word felt heavier than the last. ‎ ‎A contract marriage. ‎ ‎Duration: One year. ‎Role: Act as his wife in public and private settings. ‎Condition: No emotional attachment. No interference in his personal affairs. ‎Payment: Enough to change my life forever. ‎ ‎I couldn’t breathe. ‎ ‎“This… this is insane,” I said, dropping the paper like it burned. ‎ ‎“You agreed,” he reminded me again. ‎ ‎“I was drunk!” I shouted. “That doesn’t count!” ‎ ‎“It does in this case.” ‎ ‎Silence fell between us. ‎ ‎Tension. Thick. Suffocating. ‎ ‎I looked at him, really looked this time. ‎ ‎His expression was unreadable. Cold. Like none of this mattered to him. ‎ ‎“Why me?” I asked quietly. “There are so many women out there… rich, beautiful, classy… why pick someone like me?” ‎ ‎For the first time, something flickered in his eyes. ‎ ‎Something I couldn’t understand. ‎ ‎“Because you had nothing to lose,” he said. ‎ ‎That hurt. ‎ ‎More than I expected. ‎ ‎I swallowed hard, trying to steady myself. ‎ ‎“And if I refuse now?” I asked. ‎ ‎He stepped closer. ‎ ‎Too close. ‎ ‎“You can try,” he said softly. “But remember… you signed willingly.” ‎ ‎My chest tightened. ‎ ‎I was trapped. ‎ ‎Between desperation… and a mistake I didn’t even remember making. ‎ ‎Tears filled my eyes again, but this time, I didn’t let them fall. ‎ ‎I had cried enough. ‎ ‎“Fine,” I said, lifting my chin slightly. “If this is real… then I have conditions too.” ‎ ‎His eyebrow raised slightly. ‎ ‎“Oh?” ‎ ‎“If I’m going to be your ‘wife’,” I continued, “you don’t control me. You don’t treat me like I’m nothing. And this ends exactly when the contract says.” ‎ ‎He stared at me for a moment. ‎ ‎Then, slowly… he smirked. ‎ ‎“Interesting,” he murmured. “You’re bolder than I thought.” ‎ ‎I didn’t respond. ‎ ‎I couldn’t afford to be weak anymore. ‎ ‎Not in front of him. ‎ ‎“Alright,” he said finally. “We have a deal.” ‎ ‎But the way he looked at me… ‎ ‎It didn’t feel like a deal. ‎ ‎It felt like the beginning of something far more dangerous. ‎
