Angela

That was all she could really remember. The funeral wasn't super long, and that was the first time that she had seen her father so sad. He looked so lost and scared, while she had tears as much as anyone, she had to be strong and brave for everyone. Reaching down, she grasped her mothers necklace. Although it reminded her of that day, she didn't want to loose that last gift Virginia gave her. Sometimes when she felt down and out of it, she held onto it. It made her feel like her mother was there for her. Smiling, Katie grabbed a rope and swung down from the bell tower.     "Thank you Miss. Katie. We where so worried that it was broken forever," A gentleman stated. She wiped her hands on her denim overalls and smiled. "No worries," She said. She waved goodbye to the gentleman and ran off into the woods, hoping to make it home before her father returned before his trip, looking around she wanted to see if anyone noticed her.     When she was satisfied that no one was looking, she stripped off her clothes and started to shift. When she stood, she looked into the woods and then back at herself. Her white coat shimmered in the light coming through the trees. She started to shake, feeling great as she stretched her legs. Grabbing her clothes in her mouth, she sprinted home. Hearing something behind her, she took a quick glance and found a black wolf charging behind her. She felt scared, and pushed faster and faster. She wouldn't slow down until she got home. Running further, she could just see her home, or at least the back portion of it. She sprinted with every last dying breath. She couldn't let someone grab her and do whatever they wanted.  Running into the back of the house, she slowly looked around to see if there was any sign of the black wolf. she even tried to sniff them out and find a scent that didn't belong. But instead, she smelled her grandmother.  "Kathryn Dalm, what have I told you about shifting in the house?"Anita said. Katie whimpered and slowly shifted. She then put her overalls back on and tied up her fallen hair into a messy bun. "Sorry, Granny. I thought something was chasing me on my way home," She said walking through to the living room.  "And what exactly where you doing?" She asked. Katie looked her way and Anita practically passed out on her own. "We wolves may have more lives then humans, but I swear deary, you are gonna kill me faster then my age,"Anita said going into the kitchen. "Get cleaned up, your father should be home soon," She said. Katie ran to her room and adjusted her outfit to be more susceptible. According to her fathers last letter, he had remarried and was bringing her stepmother home. She wasn't so sure why he decided to, and she wasn't that excited for another person to be in their home.  Her Grandmother moved in  a little while ago to take care of Katie while her father was away on trips. Putting on her best sundress and nude ballet flats, she stepped out and showed her grandmother how she looked. "What do you think?" She asked.  "Better, except...."She licked her thumb and rubbed it along Katie's face."Granny..." She moved around and started to laugh and gave her grandmother a huge hug.  "Katie, dear. Mother," Her father yelled from the carriage. Katie pulled away from her grandmother and ran out the door into her fathers arms. "Poppa, your home," She said. He smiled and pulled away from her as he looked at her. It had been over 7 months since he had seen her.  "Mother, who is she?" A girl said coming out of the carriage. Her hair was black and long. Her bangs where cut just above her eyes and her dress went all the way to the ground. It looked like a maroon color, but way to fancy for her taste. "Julia, she is your sister now," A woman with similar hair color said coming around the corner. Behind her was another daughter who had dark brown hair that was curled at the ends. Her father looked Katie's way, then up at the door to find his mother with her hands crossed. She did not look impressed nor happy with the look of things.  "You didn't say that he had a daughter already," The one called Julia stated. The one who She assumed was the mother turned and somewhat smiled. Katie watched as her father walked forward and held out his hand for the woman to hold. He then presented her to his daughter. "Dear, this is my daughter, Kathryn," He said. Katie placed both of her hands in front of her and placed a calming smile on her face. "Katie, this is my new bride, Angela," He said. Angela walked forward and gave Katie a big hug. "You didn't tell me your daughter was this beautiful, she said. Katie could feel her cheeks warming up as her new stepmother pulled away.  "These are my daughters. This is Maddie," She said pointing to the dark brunette. "And this is my oldest, Julia." The black haired one sneered at Katie. She did not feel good about this sister. "Please come in," Ryan stated. Leading the new family into the house, he found his mother in the kitchen, her most favorite place. "Hello Mother," He said placing a kiss on her cheek. Anita turned her head and looked at her new daughter-in-law. Looking around the home and scoffing at how little it is.  Turning back to her food, she tasted it and was satisfied.  Placing the dinner out on the table, Katie walked back in to the kitchen and heard her father talking about moving.  "Moving?!" She said startled.  "Now now, Katie. I have come into some money recently. And since there is more of us now, I figured a bigger place would do," He said rubbing the back of his head with a smile. She didn't want to make it seem like she wasn't happy. "What about Granny?" She asked. He looked her way. "I have placed the house under her name. and as long as your ok with it, I will be sending you to check on her every now and again, while I'm away at times," He said. She looked at her grandmother and nodded her head. At least they weren't loosing the house forever. The house that she grew up in. The new family ate dinner, but Katie was quiet through most of it, and only gave small answers for whenever Angela asked them. Katie also felt down since mates are a lifetime thing. Only a few of them fine their second chance mate. she wondered if her father found his second chance, or if he just married her to marry her, which meant that he had no choice in a way.  "So deary, have you found a mate yet?" Angela asked. She looked off and found Julia sneering at her. "No, not yet," She said. Looking down at her food, she imagined what it would be like to even have a mate. Her father seemed to have better luck then her, even in school she couldn't find a single boy that truly liked her, for her, not for her looks compleatly. "I found out that my mate would be the prince!" Julia stated. Everyone stopped eating except for the step-family.Anita looked her sons way and he just shrugged his shoulders.  "How do you know that?" She asked.  "Isn't it obvious, he is dreamy, and I am just simple perfect, it is meant to be!" Julia said running a hand through her hair and pushing it back behind the chair.  Katie, just slowly shook her head, and Angela noticed it and slowly scoffed.  "Why do you think its not so?" She asked her new daughter.  Katie looked back up from her plate and decided to speak the truth, knowing at least her grandmother would help and be there for her.  "I'm sorry to sound rude, but a lot of girls will say that they are the princes mate. It is not an uncommon thing," She stated. Angela tilted her head and slightly agreed, knowing that she had been there before.  Julia noticed this and immediately stood her ground. "No, I had a actual mate matcher tell me it was my destiny to be the princes mate. So i must be!" She claimed then walked off to the back room. Katie went back to her food and when everyone was all done, she cleaned up and went off to grab boxes to start packing up.  Her room wasn't that big, it was the same one she had growing up. With what little she had, she was able to pack up 3 boxes and save the 4th one for her bed set when she woke up in the morning.  Looking toward the door, Anita walked in and noticed her smiling.  "I guess now you can make that craft room,Granny," She said. Anita started to laugh a bit before sitting down on the bed. "I'm gonna miss having you around all the time," Katie said leaning on her shoulder.  Anita started to rub along her side and placed a kiss on her forehead.  When Katie looked up, her grandmothers smile was all she needed to feel safe and happy.  ------------------------ Within the next day, Katie and Ryan moved out and said goodbye to Anita. Knowing she would see her grandmother soon, she didn't feel as sad. Pulling up to the new house, Katie couldn't believe her eyes. It was huge. About at least 2 floors, maybe a attic or basement.  She honestly couldn't tell from where she stood on the ground. Running her hands along the chain to the golden heart, she felt super nervous and anxious. She only ever lived and heard stories in her old home. Thinking about it, her father had to leave home, and so did her mother originally. Even her Grandmother. Everyone had to move on eventually. She decided that this was best for now. She followed her father into the house and went around. Maddie and Julia had run up the stairs already to pick their rooms out. Katie slowly followed and suspected that they would get the bigger of the rooms. She was right. Climbing up to the top, she found an attic.  It didn't look all dusty or covered with cobwebs. It had a bed and a little vanity, it looked content.  Sitting on the bed, she felt happy, until Angela came up stairs. "What a perfect little room!" She said coming through the door. Katie noticed a small little change in her voice. Looking down at her stepdaughter, she gave a scowl.  "This house is much better and more appropriate for a woman such as myself and her perfect little daughters. But not little scum such as yourself. Don't think i didn't notice the way you practically scoffed at my little Julia. She was the pride and joy of our former pack, and she will be of this pack as well. Especially when she meets the prince. Don't think you can change anything and ruin what we have planned," She said shutting the door and walking down the steps. As soon as Katie couldn't hear her heels anymore, she leaned back onto the bed and took in a big intake of air and relaxed. But what Angela said stuck to her for some time.  'Ruin our Plan'
