The Time is Now

Those words kept running around in Katie's mind. Within the new house, there was  lot to be done. Especially in her new room/the attic. Walking around, it wasn't as bad as she had originally thought. Sure it needed a little dusting and a teensy bit of cleaning as well as love and care. But it shouldn't be that hard. So she got to it. Rolling up her sleeves, she started to hoist the mattress up and away from the wooden bed frame. Pretty easy to do, wasn't too heavy, wasn't that light either. Placing it against the wall, she looked at the frame. Looked sturdy, as a matter of fact, she didn't even remember it squeaking when she sat on it earlier. Nodding her head, she easily knocked on the wood, both for good luck and to double check the sturdiness of it. Seemed good to go. Now the mattress, she opened the window for ventilation and adjusted  the mattress, then grabbing a broom, she started to beat it a little. Just to get the dust off. And it seemed to work, until she started to sneeze and then laughed at herself for a moment.  'Knock, Knock' She walked over to the door. Opening it, she saw her father just at the top step. He looked like he had done some cleaning as well, with dirt and some grim on his face and arms. she didn't even notice his clothes until he placed his hands on his hips and looked around her own room.  "Well now my dear. What a beautiful room you have here," Ryan stated as he took another look around. He found the open window and just as he was about to close it, he looked at the view that she had and compaired it to his.  "Have you seen this dear? much better than the one from my room," He said with a chuckle. Turning around he watched her place the mattress back on the wood frame and walk to one of her boxes. She didn't say a word to him.  He watched as she picked up trinkets and such and placed them on the floor, then back to her box where she was no doubt looking for her sheets.  He walked over to the bed and sat on it. Even he noticed that it didn't sound squeaky. Katie looked up at her father and noticed that he didn't look much happier than she did. She decided to break the silence.  "It really is a lovely house father. I love the huge backyard. Lots of free running time i surly hope," She said finally finding her sheets. She picked them up and walked over to the mattress.  Sitting down next to him, she noticed that he looked awfully tired. "Now I know that you arnt a huge fan of the move Katie. But with our new family, we just had to, there wasn't enough room for the 5 of us," He said. Katie looked down at her sheets. She could feel the tears as she remembered the look on her Grandmothers face as they rode away.  "How about we invite your grandmother over once the house is all put together, aye?" He said looking at her. She smiled and had a gleam in her eye. Ryan knew how much his daughter cherished her grandmother. It was the greatest that she could ever be. Ryan got up and helped Katie finish the rest of her bed, then went downstairs as she attempted to finish the rest of her room.  ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- The smell, it smelled like homemade stew. But not just any, it was her mothers recipe, or close to it at least. running down 3 flights of stairs, she found her father cooking it. Just as she walked it though, she noticed Angela was sitting in a corner table and eyeing her. Katie shrunk and walked calmly behind her father to get a good whiff.  "What is that horrendous smell?" She asked. Using her fan, she tried to fan it away, didn't quit work as well as she had hoped. Katie wanted to get out before something started.  "Father, I'm gonna go for a run" she said. He nodded his head and just before she ran for the door he made a note of reminding her, "Not too far Katie dear. Dinner is almost ready and this land also belongs to our Prince." She made her way out and was about to go behind a tree and strip off her clothes, until she heard her new sisters snickering.  "I bet you she doesn't even know how to shift. She probably was born a human," One of them said. She felt anger start to boil, but it wasn't right to take it out on anyone just yet. Right now, she needed a run, to stretch her legs. Shifting, she felt her eyes practically pop out, it had been a while.  Looking down at her fur, it was just as white as she remembered it. Her eyes scanned the area. Hiding her clothes behind a wheel barrel that just happened to be around, she took off running. Loving the feeling and ready to just sprint the entire backyard into the woods.  She knew the woods, she actually grew up around these woods and knew that they where for public use, not just for the royal family or those of higher up. At least not from what she last heard.  Dodging bushes and sticks, fallen trees, she enjoyed it. The woods here connected throughout the majority of the kingdom, when she was younger, she would run everywhere throughout with her father and then back home to have her Grandmother scold her for getting dirty. After finding a small spot by the river, she noticed a lot of wolfs where enjoying the day. She layed down on all fours and watched as wolf after wolf came and enjoyed each others company.  Noticing some where mates and others where friends, she wished she had something like that, or at least her father did. Angela seemed to be on both ends of the spectrum. Sweet but crazy as well. Could be two faces, she knew a few wolfs that where like that.  She looked into the water and then looked back up to find a pitch black wolf staring right at her. She tilted her head and looked around to see if they where mistaken. No one was around her.  Looking back over she watched as he slowly started to walk over, she panicked and only one word crossed her mind when they moved.  Run.
