The Dream
"Ahhhh!"
I sit up straight in my bed looking around to tell the person who was screaming to shut up when I realise it was me.
Looking over to my bedside table I pick up my phone to check the time, when both my parents burst into my room rushing towards me.
"Are you okay, Honey?" came Mama's unusually high-pitched voice.
"What happened, Honey? Don't tell me there is a cockroach in your bed, again." Papa said. Thanks Papa, I thought, well he isn't happy about being up at this time in the morning.
Then it hit me, it was like a ton of bricks. Suddenly, I remembered the dream, more like a nightmare, that woke me up. My eyes started to water, and I struggled to breathe. Mama came over and started rubbing circles on my back with the palm of her hand.
"What is it, Darling?" she said. I look up to see concern pulling her eyebrows together and filling her eyes.
Taking a minute to compose myself, I tried to think of a way to explain the pain I feel when I think about the end of the dream.
"I had the weirdest dream... and yet... it seems so real." I start with a shaky voice. "It was about this really strange book... it was like... about v-vampires... a-and werewolves." I stuttered. "Anyway," I said with more confidence. "the Dream was about this book and all of the ancient magic that it contains. It also had something about how when the book was opened in front of you it transforms you into your soul's destined state, so you will turn into either a vampire or werewolf depending what's written on your sou-"
"Is that it?" Papa interrupts me.
"No Barry, there is obviously more if she woke up screaming at 2 in the morning. Why don't you go off back to bed and I will stay and talk to our daughter? Happy?" Mama asked, me being temporarily forgotten.
"Fine if there is no cockroach involved, then I am going back to bed. Good Night... sorry... Good Morning." Papa said, leaving dramatically.
"Okay... now that's dealt with. Was there any more to the dream that you can remember?" Mama questioned.
"Yeah there is a bit more. Okay... so there is the book that holds very ancient magic... and... our... ah... our neighbours... ah... They are a vampire clan; they apparently have magic powers... they have powers like healing and dream walking. They were trying to say something to me, but when they tried to talk to me my view started to fade, and everything started going quiet." I pause, looking down at my hands and try to calm myself down. "Then I was watching a guy sitting on a bench around the corner. I swear to you Mama, he looked exactly like Jacob. Anyway, he was just sitting in the moonlight when suddenly, the man started to shake... he started to change in shape and size, and then... and then... where the man was sitting there was a giant black wolf that started to chase me.
Werewolf - Jacob (Jake)

Then I ran all the way to our house, and when I got to our driveway, he started to speak, but it wasn't like him as talking out loud... more like he was talking in my head. He sounded so much like Jake and he said 'Diana, just remember you can trust me!'... It was so real it scared me." I finish in a trembling voice. I looked up at her cautiously hope that she doesn't run to the door calling me crazy.
"Well... that is a very...... Interesting dream" she says with hesitation. "Do you know what the book was called, perhaps?" Mama asked.
"Ummmm... I'm pretty sure it was called... the book of..." I say, trying hard to think of the name of the book. "Got it! 'The Book of Torment'!... This is all so weird it seemed as though it was all real." I said with a sigh and looked down again. "Though there is a little more to the dream, more that I didn't want to tell you, but I think I should. Okay ... so there was the guy and then my view changed again, and I was standing in a forest, watching a road, I don't know what road is was, but there was a bridge with a concrete barrier down the middle. Well... there was a vehicle it was one of those blue modified Holden Colorado's, "I said as I look to see Mama's face as pale as paper and her sitting very still. When our eyes meet, she nods her head slightly for me to continue telling her about my dream. "and there were two people in the car, I could tell that they were both girls. They looked like they were laughing. While they were laughing the vehicle swerved slightly putting the Ute on the wrong side of the road. Then they came to the bridge going over the river... and the driver didn't see the bridge until the last moment, when the Ute swerved it then crashed into the concrete barrier that divides the bridge. Running over, I looked at them and I... sort of... Kicked into doctor mode and started looking for all their injuries, the female driver was alive, but with major cuts from the broken windscreen on her face, trauma from hitting her head on the door frame, and, it felt like she had at least 5 broken ribs and then her femur was pushed up through her skin. Then I rushed around to the other side of the vehicle and looked at the passenger. She looked horrible and her chest was crushed by the airbag, her crushed head was hanging out the window... and her arms... they were twisted like old branches and her legs were bent towards her at a weird angle. It was so horrible!" I cried as I fell into Mama's open arms." But I kept myself together enough to walk back to the driver's side and looked for a way to identify the girls. I thought they looked familiar, but I could not tell exactly who they were because their faces were cut up too much from the glass. I leaned over the driver reaching for her phone in the middle console of the vehicle when I looked at the bracelet on her wrist. Then I looked at the passenger's wrist and saw a very similar one her wrist too. I then forgot about the phone and looked back at the driver's bracelet and it had her name on it When I realised who they were I looked back over to the passenger and screamed. That's what woke me up... it was just too much." I sobbed still in her arms. "All that blood ..." A wave of shivers crept down my spine.
"It's alright, dear. Could you tell me who the girls were?" Mama asked as she ran her fingers through my hair trying to calm me down.
"Yeah. It was... it was... me and... Rose. But I was the driver."
"It's okay, Honey, it was just a dream" Mama said, patting my back and comforting me, the look on her face tells me she is struggling to hide the worry
"But it seemed so real." I sobbed.
"Okay. It's way too early. Why don't you try to get some more sleep? We will talk more later." She says in a soothing tone as she gets up and walks to the door. "Also, Happy Birthday Diana!" And then she closes the door, leaving me alone in my huge room.
I don't want to turn 18 or graduate, this year... but I need my degree in medicine. All I want to do is forget about it all, but The Book of Torment is being stubborn and won't stop haunting my every thought. I turn around and search my blankets for where I dropped my phone. Picking up my phone I flick on my bed lamp so face recognition will work. When it unlocks, I open the folder with all my social apps in it and open f*******:. I start to scroll through all the posts without even paying attention. My mind just keeps drifting back to The Book of Torment, The Vampire Clan and The Werewolf. I keep thinking about how the werewolf looked and sounded so much like Jake. Suddenly I had an idea, it was stupid and probably a complete and utter waste of time, but an idea, nonetheless. Why not just go and look for The Book, if The Book has magic it could explain why I had the dream that I did! Brilliant! I thought as I drifted into a dreamless sleep.
