My eyes flicked open as I stretched under the sheets waking myself up, the sunlight made the room look huge as I sat up I noticed Elijah was sat on the chair facing the bed holding a glass of what looked like whisky, still in last night’s clothes. He was staring at me with a dark expression. He looked lost and betrayed. I pulled the quilt back and swung my legs out of bed as I started to walk towards him, his eyes piercing into mine, he looked angry. What happened last night? I stopped at the end of the long sofa keeping my distance from him, he never moved but his eyes looked at me with such anger that I didn’t know what to do. He slowly stood up and placed the glass onto the book shelf near the television. He looked down at his feet and spoke with a cold tone that made me shiver, it held no emotion “The er… The rogue from last night…” he looked up and his eyes locked on mine with a frown, like he was trying to read my expression of what he was saying.
“She was no rogue. She was from your pack, the Crimson Shadow pack…….. She said she was sent to collect you.” He looked back at the ground pacing towards the balcony deep in thought.
“Collect me? Why? Who is she?” my mind was on overdrive as my heart started hammering in my chest, I was starting to panic.
“Her name was Heather?” he looked at me with a questioning look to see if I recognised the name. I frowned in response. What did she want from me?
“She said Alpha Hunter had demanded your presence at the pack house, he has said that you are to return as you have responsibilities there as the next Beta female, and since you did not officially join my pack you are still rogue and can be pulled back to your official pack if the Alpha order’s it. If you don’t go, we will have to go to war. My pack is not ready for a war with the Crimson Shadow pack. I am a stronger alpha by far but my pack does not hold the numbers that yours does. Many lives would be lost Ellie.”
He looked at me with such sadness and I could feel my heart breaking as tears dropped down my cheeks; I latched onto the sofa for support as all the air in my body felt like it was non-existent. I clutched onto my stomach as the room fell silent and a high pitched noise was all I could hear ringing in my ears. I zoned out, anger taking over and my wolf took control picking up anything in reaching distance and launching it across the room. Elijah grabbed hold of me as I continued to pull away from his hold, but he was too strong. My wolf instantly calmed when he began kissing my neck from behind. I took control back of my body and slowly turned to look at Elijah who had tears forming in his eyes.
“He can’t do this to me… Tell me he can’t do this Elijah? Tell me!” it was almost a plea as I stood staring at his facial expression shift from sadness to regret.
“I’m sorry Ellie! I don’t want you to leave and trust me I will do everything in my power to put a stop to this! But if it comes to it, I cannot force my pack to go to war.”
I let out a loud sigh “I understand. I can’t make you decide between the well-being of your pack and me. I won’t do it. I will return to the Crimson Shadow pack.” His face turned to pure anger in an instant as his arms around me tightened and he let out a fierce growl which could make an army bow in submission. He was pissed.
“WHAT!? SO I MEAN NOTHING TO YOU… THIS…US… MEANS NOTHING!!” he spoke in alpha tone, but I didn’t back down. He let go of me and started pacing the room “You’re just going to go back there! To him!” he stopped and looked at me waiting for my response.
“Don’t think for a second that this is what I want Elijah!” I responded almost shouting with anger and frustration clear in my voice as I pointed towards him in a defensive stance.
“Then don’t leave. Join my pack. Become our Luna, My Luna” he emphasised the word ‘My’ as he continued to stand staring at me, his anger slowly shifting and his ocean blue eyes returning to his handsome face once more.
I shook my head and looked at the ground “I can’t. I won’t. I won’t let them hurt you Elijah. Or the pack. You have been nothing but kind to me since I got here and accepted me for who I am. Let me make this right. Let me talk to Hunter. I can’t let you got to war for me. No one needs to die over this. This is my mother’s pack and I will do everything in my power to protect it!” I stood up straight and spoke with clear dominance. He looked at me in awe and a wide smile crossed his face. I looked at him confused.
“Spoken like a true Luna.” He said with so much joy and happiness it made me blush. “I will let you return there. But if you’re not back within a week, I, Elijah Cleary, Alpha of the Blue Moon Pack will go to war and fight for you Eleanor Hale. I will have you by my side as Luna of my pack, mother of my children. I will die for you my love” he walked towards me and pulled me into his embrace kissing me softly and then pulling my head to his chest as we stood there in each other’s embrace calming instantly is we inhaled each other’s scent.

A week later, it was the day of my mother’s funeral, it had also been decided that this was the day I would return to the Crimson Shadow pack. Hunter agreed to not pursue me or demand me to return a day before as he allowed me time to grieve. I made my way downstairs wearing a black tight dress that stopped just above my knees it had long sleeves and clung to my body; I had lost a lot of weight since the news of my mother’s passing. Half of my hair was up in a bun as the bottom half was left in loose curls on my back, as I got downstairs to the main entrance of the pack house I noticed a large number of people dressed in black and crying or with sadness on their faces, Beth and Cameron were among them. I couldn’t believe the number of people who were coming with me to show respect for my mother.
As I made my way closer to the door I seen Elijah appear in a black suit and white shirt, unlike him he was also wearing a slim black tie with a simple Windsor knot at the top. His hair was combed to the side and he wore shiny, black oxford shoes which completed his look, he walked towards me and held out his hand which I took in an instant, he leaned down and placed a small kiss on my cheek as he turned and led me to one of the many black SUV’s that waited for us outside of the house. He opened the door for me and watched me carefully as I climbed in and got comfortable putting on my seat belt. A small smile filled with sadness stretched on his face as he closed the door and made his way round to the other side, as he climbed in I looked ahead and noticed Shane was driving and I couldn’t help but feel sad about leaving all of this behind. This had become my home.
Elijah sensed my discomfort and reached for my hand as he pulled it up to his lips and kissed my knuckles while locking his eyes to mine “Remember my promise?” he said softly, lowering my hand but not letting go. “I remember.” A weak smile made its way to my face as I turned and looked out of the window as we pulled off the drive and headed towards Crimson Shadow Territory.
