I sat on a stool leaning on the kitchen bench still staring at the envelope. I didn’t want to open it. Was this something to do with the other wolves crying? Was I in trouble for staying with another pack? My eyes went wide! s**t! What if Hunter has found out I’m here and killed wolves from this pack in attempt to make sure I’m not allowed to stay safe? I shook my head at the thought and slowly opened the envelope. Beth and Cameron were sat across from me silently waiting in anticipation.
I pulled out a letter which was hand written, unlike my name on the envelope. It was my father’s handwriting. As I quickly scanned the pages, I noticed there was two both front and back covered in writing with no blank space to be seen. I started to read and I shook my head in disbelief, my heart shattered, all my breath left my body and my blood ran ice cold. My hands froze, gripped onto the paper as I felt tears stream from my eyes. Voices around me turned into silence all I could focus on was his words ‘Your mother fell ill after your departure, through no fault of your own of course. She missed you a great deal and could not cope with the loss of her child. She passed away in her sleep yesterday evening while cradling a picture of you’ my sadness soon shifted to anger as I felt my wolf boiling to the top. I dropped the letter to the floor and bolted out of the house and towards the woods.
My bones started to crack as I made it to the tree line, fur pulling out of my body I quickly shifted and howled in pain as I bolted through the trees, jumping and diving over fallen branches, my wolf was whimpering in pain, my legs felt weak and my heart beat was slow I couldn’t help but snap at any creature that crossed my path. I was angry; angry at my father whose letter was far from sincere, angry at Hunter. I could kill him. He killed my mother. He banished me from her without letting me say goodbye. I turned a sharp left making my way back to the border of the Crimson Shadow Pack, I wanted revenge. As I charged forward an enormous Black wolf jumped over head and stood in front of me jolting me to a stop. It stared at me with shining blue eyes, its teeth showing as it growled and walked towards me slowly demanding submission; power was radiating from its thick, dark coat of fur. I stood my ground and refused to back down. I slammed my front to paws to the ground one at a time and let out a loud warning growl. ‘SHIFT’ is all I heard through mind link in a deep dominating tone, I felt myself grow weaker to his demand but I refused; I continued to stand my ground and growl with saliva now dripping from my lower jaw ‘SHIFT ELEANOR!’
I stood shocked. Who was this wolf, how did he know me? We were quickly surrounded by about twenty wolves, all the same size as me varying in colours, they made a perfect circle around me and the black wolf as I continued to stand my ground, they began barking and sneering as their eyes bore into me. With one growl from the black wolf the rest fell silent watching in anticipation. This wolf was huge he was almost double the size of my wolf and was muscular as he stood to attention waiting for me to obey his order. As he gazed into my eyes I felt myself lose all train of thought as I finally felt myself submitting and shifting back to human form. I stood there naked wearing nothing but my grandmother’s necklace, tears still streaming down my face circled by wolves I didn’t recognise. I suddenly fell to my knees in antagonising pain as I clung to my stomach and let out a painful howl and sob which rippled through the trees. All I could do was cry. I was in so much pain, my mother; my main person in life is gone. As I bent over sobbing I could sense all the wolves starting to leave. I looked up and still saw the black wolf gazing down at me as he walked towards me and licked my face, as if trying to take away my tears. In the blink of an eye the wolf shifted to man. I was still sobbing and couldn’t see who it was through my tear filled eyes.
I felt a blanket cover my body as two strong arms picked me up bridal style and continued to carry me back the way in which I had come from. Through my sobs I began to feel tired and fell asleep in the man’s arms, unsure of what my future held or where I was heading, I felt limp, unable to gather any energy to open my eyes.

I woke with a pain in my heart and head, I felt empty. I slowly sat up and took in my surroundings. I was in a queen sized four poster bed with white canopy curtains tied up on each post, the room I was in was huge and light filled; straight ahead of the bed was a walk in bathroom through a dome shaped door way, to my right was black couch, similar to that which was in Elijah’s office, next to it was a sliding glass door which lead onto what looked to be a balcony, not huge but big enough to hold the table and chairs and a few plants which were out there. The room had a mounted flat screen television on the wall and a range of paintings along with a large mirror on the left side of the entrance towards the bathroom. I looked down at myself realising I was still wearing my necklace I let out a long breath, clutching it, all I could think about was my mother. I was also wearing a white T-shirt which was clearly about four sizes too big, it looked and smelt as though it belonged to a man, looking around I realised that all of this looked as though it belonged to a man.
I stood from the bed and let the T-shirt fall to my thighs, covering all my private areas so that I wasn’t exposed. I walked towards the balcony, in hopes that I could look out and see where I was. The door behind me clicked open which made me jump and turn to see what was happening. My eyes went wide as I seen Elijah stood in the doorway with a tray of food for me. He stood as frozen as me; we stood in silence before he broke eye contact and walked towards the bed placing the tray down on the bed side drawers. “I didn’t know you were up” he stood straight and walked around the bed towards me, but stopped when I shook my head.
“I brought you some food. You should eat.” I stared at him blankly feeling tears fall down my face again as I shook my head in response.
He let out a soft sigh and ran his hand through his hear and then proceeded to rub the back of his neck. “I don’t like seeing you like this. It’s causing me so much pain not being able to comfort you. Can I do anything?” he looked at me with a longing look of hope.
I shook my head again not taking my eyes away from his. “Eleanor-…” he put his hands to his side and walked towards me again, this time not stopping as I continued to shake my head, my sobs came from nowhere as I was about to fall to the ground in tears he quickly grabbed me and held me to his chest while kissing my head and stroking my hair with the hand that wasn’t holding me up on my back. I sobbed into him to the point where his shirt was soaked with my tears; I looked up and met his worried gaze as he continued to sooth me through the pain I was feeling. He picked me up in one swift movement and carried me back to the bed where we lay there and fell asleep in each other’s embrace.
