Not long into the movie, Kayla falls asleep. Alex helps me put her in her bed. Mittens stays next to her. Walking back out into the main room, Alex and I sit on the couch. “How are you?” I ask with caution. “A lot less stressed. I’m sorry we won’t have a traditional Christmas.” I look at him curiously, “I think tradition is being with the people you love, and I am with them.” Alex smiles and takes my hand, “Me too. I’m sorry Kayla’s presents got ruined. I thought walking out would be better than me losing my temper and saying something inappropriate in front of Kayla again.” “It’s okay. We planned on leaving anyway. I had enough of Fritz and Lana for the next few years.” I look at Alex. “Besides, Kayla is happy just being with us.” I lay my head on Alex as we sit on the couch.
