NIKUMI’S POINT OF VIEW
“So we are avoiding the sunlight? I can’t go out during the day?” I complained.
He closed the entrance of his hide out and cover it with the grass and soil. We are now heading back to the mansion because he said that we should be back before sun rise.
“You can’t!” He yelled at me while puling me, he is walking faster and his steps are bigger than mine. “Are you out of your mind? If a demon goes out in the daylight, if you will go out you’ll die in an instant. You will turn into ashes and kiss your hope to get your human soul back goodbye.”
I gasped. I can’t even go out under the sun. So my life will be in the shadows and in the dark starting from now on. My smile fade away and I frowned. He pulled really hard, in my surprise I didn’t notice that he is already in front o me. I looked at him curiously. I heard him sighed.
“You can see the day but you should be under the roof so it protects you from the sun light. Tsk.” He let go of my wrist and he walked ahead of me. His hands on the back of his head and he’s walking while looking at the moon. “Hurry up.”
“Okay, okay!” I said while smiling.
“What is so interesting in the day? Do you badly want to go out?” He asked casually. I walk beside him and looked up to him. He really is way taller than me.
“I don’t know. I just want to see the day. I feel like I’m always in a cold and cloudy day when I was human.” I chuckles. “Strange right?”
“Hmmm. Maybe. But that’s okay since you have a complete control of your mind and body on your first night as a demon it might be possible that your thoughts are coming from your humane thoughts.” He is right. Maybe in my human life I did want to enjoy the sunlight. I’m really glad that I didn’t went on a rampage just to drink human blood or kill a human when I was turned into demon earlier.
He said most of time new born demons like me usually went on a rampage to feast. But look at me, the first blood I was able to taste when I became a demon is a disgusting animal blood. I admire him for that. His discipline and conviction is stronger than his thirst. I ill try my best to do that too!
“Why are you smiling?” I looked at him when he asked. He is not looking at me but he knew I was smiling.
“Nothing!” I replied cheerfully.
“Your noisy and cheerful for a demon.” He commented.
“You’re too serious for a human.” I commented but all I heard from him is hissed.
We stayed silent as we’re walking back to the mansion. It’s not far but we are outside of the village. We jump by the wall instead of taking a detour to the village entrance. He also said that the villagers are not aware that there’s a demon mansion in the village since the demon lord was one of the village’s official. The mansion look like a normal Japanese house in the eyes of the villagers because of some morph. He also said that the demon lord holds a strong authority in the village and most of the meeting are held in the mansion, I mean ‘house’ during the day. At night time the mansion is covered with a strong spell that hides it from demons slayer and normal humans eye.
“Demon slayers.” I whispered.
“Why?” he asked.
“Hmm?” I looked at him. “Nothing. I’m just wondering about them. They are risking their live to kill demons.”
“They are our enemies. To them it doesn’t matter if your a good demon r not. They’re purpose and duty is to slay demons. So if you’ll meet one just run since you don’t want to kill a human.” He said casually. I nodded as an answer and again we stayed silent.
We are now approaching the mansion. My body shivered when I felt a strong presence and power coming from the mansion. It gives me chills and fear but I’m not trembling. I can endure it enough to continue walking towards the house. The closer we are the stronger the presence and incredible power.
“Just walk. You’ll get used to id day by day.” He whispered. He fixed his kimono and took a deep breath when we reached the door.
“Yes.” I said and cleared my throat.
“Remember what I told you earlier.”
“Uhm.” I nodded again.
He cleared his throat and opened the door. After he went inside I followed after. Surprisingly Juvia-san appeared before us. She was like teleporting. I tapped my chest and hold my breath. I tried to look serious like what he told me.
“Edward. You know the rules.” She whispered when she approached Edward-kun who is three meter away from me now.
“I know. I just escorted her in. I saw her in the middle of the village and she doesn’t know how to go back here.” He said while smiling. He is cheerful unlike earlier. He’s mood change quickly and he’s good at reasoning. He turned around to face me. He smiled and waved his hand. “See you around, Margaret-chan!” and h walkway.
“Margaret-san.” She called. I composed my self before walking closer to her while Edward-kun continuously walking away from us.
“Hi, Juvia-san.” I said seriously. I want to be cheerful as Edward-kun did earlier but this is what he told me to do. I need to hide my own feeling and act like a real demon. I just can’t understand why he’s being cheerful just now, is that his way of hiding his real personality?
“Where you with Edward the hole time?” she asked. I tried not to look at his direction and look at Juvia’s eyes. I pretended that I didn’t hear the question she whispered and his answer a minute ago.
“No. I almost attack him but he said he’s a demon. He guided me to go back since I’m lost in the village.’’ I replied. She looked at like she is trying to find out if I’m telling the truth. Edward-kun said that Juvia-can tell lies and truth easily so I need to be firm on my words and do not stutter whatever happens.
“I see.” She looked away from my eyes and turned around. “Follow me. Nao-sama is looking for you. You should greet him and thank him for giving you immortality.’’ I followed her like what she told me. We went to the second floor of the mansion and we reached the end of the hallway. There’s huge door at the end. She look at left and right before knocking on the door and opened it.
She gave me signal to get inside and so I did. She checked again the outside and closed the door. We re now standing right before the close door. The room has a lot of painting of the moon and images of houses and other places but all are pained in night theme. The ceiling is plain white and the only light in the room is the candle torches on the wall with five meters distance from each one of it. The room is quite dim and gloomy. It’s so quite and creepy.
