Chapter 1
THIRD PERSON'S POV "Time to go." Hatori said after putting the last bag of rice on his cart. He's about to go down the town to sell the ten bags of rice for today. "Take care on your way, son. Come back before supper, alright?" His mother said and put the coat on his shoulder. Her mother smiled and it's genuine. She touched his wooden necklace and look at her son again while smiling. "Yes, mother. I'll be back before sunset." He replied and smiled revealing his perfect white teeth. He's about to go when his two youngest sibling who're twin grab on to his legs while laughing. The twins are just 3 years old and loves to play around they're humble hut. He laughed and carry both of them in his arms. "Brother, brother, brother." They sing. The two pulled his pony tail revealing his red long hair that he inherited from his deceased father. Not only the necklace but also his hair was from his father, now they almost identical. "Okay, stop now you two." He put them down and tied his hair up again. "Sorry, Brother." Nikumi said and took the twins away from him. She's the second child and responsible on helping their mother in the household everyday as well as taking care of the twins. She is the only girl in the family and grew up beautifully specially now that she is a sixteen years old teenager. "You need to go now, it'll be noon soon." She smiled. "I'm counting on you, Nikumi." He answered. Nikumi smiled and return. Hatori lift up the carts handle and about to leave when his brother showed holding a chopped log and axe on the other hand. "Big brother, can I come along?" Ino asked frowning. He really wanted to help his brother and it's not the first he asked to help him. He's the third child and he always wanted to accompany his older brother like how Hatori accompanied their late father. He felt responsible for being the second boy born in Sasaki family. Now that their father is gone, Hatori is the one who needs to do the things that his father used to do as a man. Hatori's doing the same as the eldest child. "Look here, Ino." Hatori patted Ino's head as he is way taller than his fourteen year old brother. "You can tag along when you're taller and older like sister Nikumi. You're doing a good job on chopping woods so mother and Nikumi can prepare foods for us and give us a comfortable sleep in the middle of snowy cold night." "But, big brother I want to help you delivering those rice. I can also carry these bags, look!" Ino said and tried to carry one bag of rice. He was able to lift the bag but he's knees are trembling as it is heavy. He almost drop the bag but Hatori catch it before it landed on the ground covered with melting thin layer of snow. "Whatever you say, Ino. Come here!" Their mother calls while hanging the clothes on the wire. The sun is up and it's a perfect time to dry the newly washed clothes and bed sheet before it snows again. "Children, do not delay your Big brother. He needs to be home before supper." "Thank you, mother. I'll be going now. I promise to be back before sunset!" Hatori said, he covered the bags with a cloth and pulled his cart. After a few steps away from the house he turn his back and waved his hands. "Hurry and come back, big brother!" His sibling shouted while smiling. "Don't be late!" Her mother reminded him again. "Okay!" He answered and walk away. Hatori lives with his mother and four other sibling in the middle of the mountain. They are a little distant from the villages and town. There are some people who lives at the bottom of the mountain but Hatori's family is the only one who live in the mountain. It took him more than thirty minutes to get to the nearest village. He needs to deliver and sell the rice with him. The villager's also needs a supply because it is usually cold and nonstop snowing so they can't even get to plant rice at this season. In the mountains, Hatori's family is the only family who can provide good quality rice since they live in the mountain and sun shines during daybreak until afternoon. The village was covered in thick layers of snow when he arrives but there's no snow flakes falling at the moment. He thought that the snow thickened last night because of the storm. As he enters the village, Hatori took a deep breath. He has very keen sense of smell and he can tell if the village is at peace this morning. He smelled different aroma's of food from different houses for breakfast. The wind is clear and fresh. He can smell happiness from everyone.
