Chapter 8

HATORI’S POV

It's already getting dark and the snow is getting heavier. The wind is strong and I have this noisy and annoying pet with me.

"I can't believe you just transformed into a puppy." I said while trying to push through the blizzard.

"I'm a shape shifter demon, just so you know. Now keep quite and just focus on walking." He really is annoying.

"Alright! Alright!" I said in frustration.

We're on our way down the mountain and it's really hard for me took another step, the wind is stronger than my limbs and I can barely manage to step. My boots seemed heavy because of the icy ground and this pup is clinging on my shoulder.

"Faster! You're truly weak, boy!"

"Shut up. I'm the who's struggling here, you lazy pup!" "Moron, just walk."

"I wonder if all demons are talkative, annoying, bossy and lazy like you. From now on I will call you Taidana Akuma!" I said while laughing. He hit my face with his paw but I can't stop laughing because Taidana Akuma means lazy demon in Japanese term.

"I thought demons can't go out during daylight!" I changed the topic because I know he will not stop arguing with me.

"Who is the dumbest guy told you I cannot go out during the day!?" He yelled.

"I didn't say you in particular! Dolt!" I yelled back at him. "I am saying that demons are not supposed to be out during the day! You are not the only demon!"

"I'm a unique demon, fool. I can walk under the bright sun and I can even swim at the beach! Those man eating stupid demons are dominant at night. They can't go out during the day or they'll turn to ash and die."

For the first time since we met each other earlier he talked calmly. He explained why he can go out and the evil ones can't. According to him, evil demons are afraid of a certain demon who have been alive for more than nine-hundred years. These demons is the very first demon who ate humans and lead to increase the number of demons. It's powerful but these demon made a rule that once a demon attend to it's thirst and hunger, they can't go out under the sun or else they burnt to death and die. While on the other hand, there are demons that are resistant to the sun and once exposed are weakened but will not die. These demons, like this annoying one that I have can manage going out to broad day light but they loses they're strength and turns into normal animals like dogs.

"So you are saying that you're the one of you're kind alive?" I asked.

"Unfortunately, yes. You're father restrained me and imprisoned me at that suffocating basement just to protect me."

"Protect you?"

"Yes! Are you even listening? He needed to protect me and hide because of that powerful demon who framed my kind for eating humans. We are the only demons that exist for more than thousand years, Humans and demons work together and live together until that bastard came to this world and killed humans."

I looked at him when his claw showed up from his paw and stab my shoulder. I did not bled and I didn't hurt at all, maybe because I'm focused on his angry face when he said those words.

"We live in harmony with you—the humans until one night a family living close to our home was murdered and the evidence pointed us. At first we are able to defend our clan since we only eat wild animals in the mountains. We thought its settled and we can live like the usual until the killing of humans happened every night. We have been chased away from our home and hunted by villagers. We don't have a choice but to flee and avoid humans." He continues. I never imagined that I will have a demon with me telling me these stories. I can't fully believe him or trust him but I know for a reason that he is harmless and he doesn't even crave for human blood.

He continued talking and I got to manage to listen while walking. We are almost in the bottom of the mountain so my steps are getting lighter.

"So you are saying that you're more a thousand year old?" I asked casually.

"Yes, boy." He said while patting my head like a child.

"So how did you and my father became friends, Gramps?"

"That, brat! He is hunting man eating demon as well in the west. The west side is our new habitant but there are humans that has been slaughtered as well, at first we are not aware who or what kind of demons are behind the crucial killings so we tried to find clue and evidence to save our clan. One night, we are in the middle of the forest and it's almost daybreak when we heard noises from the other side of the mountain. We are able to sense demonic aura and we knew that the demons from that time is not one of us so we need to check because it might be an evidence." He stopped for a while and suddenly laugh out of nowhere.

"Hey! Hey! You're creeping me out!" I yelled when didn't stop laughing and keep on hitting my head.
