Chapter 2

Failed Promises

Anastasia's POV

My father Alpha Hawthorne once said “they are things that have its consequences, be careful of your decisions lest it hit you at the wrong time.”

I was just twenty when I met Lawrence during wereconfress. He was charming, handsome, had proper etiquette and the key to a woman's heart while I was just…me,the only daughter of the Alpha trying to prove tradition wrong.

Lawrence wasn't my fated mate. We were just bound by the marriage rites, the bond which sealed us as mates.I never found my mate. I don't even know if he still exists because I waited, cried my eyes out when I didn't see him.

After my father's death things went horribly,I was his only child and since I wasn't a man I had to marry to fulfill the necessary obligations and that was then I accepted Lawrence's proposal. I never had my doubts about him,he was all I needed in man but funny how circumstances can change a person.

Ever since Lawrence came in with Selena, his fated mate he changed,he spends most of the time with her instead of me.

“Anastasia!!” My thoughts were disrupted by Blake's yelling.

I dropped the glass of liquor that was in my hand and turned to see him.I breathed a sigh of relief when I saw that he wasn't in his official attire. The last thing I wanted was drawing unnecessary attention.

“How did you find me?” I continued with the drink in front of me.

“I'm your assistant and friend that shouldn't be a question,I literally know every single thing about you.” He pulled a chair and sat next to me.

“How are you feeling?” He asked.

“Like shit.” I sniffed.

“Have you made up your mind?” He took the bottle of wine away from me.

I grunted when he did that but he just shrugged it off. “About what?”

“Are you going to let her stay in the pack?” He asked abruptly. “She isn't a member of this pack in case you've forgotten.” He added.

I shook my head and adjusted my hoodie,I hadn't thought of that,I couldn't just send her away. She is Lawrence's mate , the one he is supposed to be with Instead of me. The thought of that alone burns like hell.

“How many weeks has it been?” Blake said as he took a shot.

“Two weeks.” I sobbed.

Just two freaking weeks and I feel like my marriage is about to end, like everything I worked for collapsed.

I looked at the ring on my finger dejectedly,my wolf hasn't been herself since then,I couldn't even bend an iron because of the weakness I was feeling.

“Anastasia, you need to go back home and think, Luke wouldn't be happy seeing you in this state.” Blake said calmly.

At the mention of my father's name the tears rolled heavily, Blake stood up and helped me up. It was sad how he always finds me in my terrible state.

Blake paid the bar man with his card, and as we were leaving we heard some men gossiping they were there in the group and I was the topic of the conversation and I stopped walking to hear more.

“Heard Alpha Lawrence has brought his real mate back to the pack and also heard that she is very beautiful.” One with a long beard started.

“Haven't heard of that, what's going to happen to Anastasia?” The chubby one amongst them added.

“What do you mean by what's going to happen to her? she has no choice in this matter.” The one with the long beard said again.

“I guess Alpha Lawrence is tired of her…who wouldn't be?” One with the glass suddenly said.

The one with the glass waved for them to move closer, they pulled their chairs immediately so they could lean closer.

“I heard that Luna is infertile I guess that was what made Alpha search for another woman.” He whispered.

It was at this point Blake marched to their table angrily tearing everything apart,I was just there transfixed at the spot, tears flowing down heavily before I could process what was happening Blake had broken their bones.

'Stop it Blake.’ I ordered through the link.

He stopped immediately and led me outside to his car.I wept furiously when I was in the car, Blake said all sorts of soothing words to calm me down but it didn't work. I stopped crying when my phone lit up and vibrated,it was a message from Lawrence.

‘Where are you?’

'Went out to sort something out.’ I texted back.

'When will you be back? Let's have dinner.’

‘'I’ll be back in a jiffy.’ I answered and turned off the screen.

The rain started pouring heavily when we got to the pack house. Blake left after we got there and I went to meet Lawrence so we could have dinner together.

When I got to the dining room I saw both of them giggling about something. Selena smiled at me when she saw me. Lawrence stood up to meet me. He frowned when he noticed that I was wet.

“Where have you been?” His hands went to my hair and clothes.

I looked past him to Selena who was now glaring at me.

“Anastasia?” Lawrence called.

“I need to talk to you.” My eyes were now on him.

“Okay, go ahead.” He replied.

I glared at him,was he really expecting me to have a conversation with him In Front of Selena?

Lawrence sighed and turned to leave, Selena stood up wanting to follow us but my glare pinned her down. When we got inside our bedroom I shut the door behind us angrily and faced Lawrence.

“You are now having dinner with her in public? What happened to you keeping your relationship with her a secret from everyone!!” I yelled angrily.

“Anastasia.” He tried to come closer but I withdrew.

“Are you really choosing her over me? Are you tired of me?” I bursted into tears.The words of the men at the bar flooded my mind again.

“Why would you say such a thing?” His voice was louder.

He rushed to my side and pulled me to his arms, patting my head like I was a child.

“I can never break our bond Anastasia,I just need you to give me some time to sort all of this.” He said in a pleading tone.

*I love you Anatasia I'm sorry for making you feel this way.” He spoke calmly.

I didn't know what to say or do but at least I stopped crying when I confirmed it from him that he wasn't tired of me. Lawrence pulled away from me so he could look at my eyes.

“Now can we go and eat.” He smiled.

“I will join you…I want to freshen up.” I gulped, hating the fact that he wants the three of us to eat together.

Lawrence nodded, gave me a peck on my cheek and left the room. When I saw that he was out of earshot I took out my phone.

“Anastasia?” Blake answered immediately.

“I need you to find out every single thing about Selena,I will kick her out myself.”
