Jayden's POV
My gaze fixated on the door as my Beta Carl walked in,he had some files in his hand and he dropped them on my desk.
“Alpha.” He bowed his head.
“What are these?” I picked up the files.
“There are petitions the elders of the council have against some Alpha.” He answered.
“Let me guess I'm on the list.” I frowned.
I flipped through the pages of the files and read every word, understanding what their claim was and why they made the claim against me.
“What part of I don't want to participate in their tradition, didn't they understand?” I flung the files away.
Carl went to pick them up and I glared at him,he mouthed sorry before placing them back on my desk.
“They just want you to show up at least once, it's like a bonding meeting of Alpha, Jayden you might even form an alliance there.” He tried to convince me.
“Let's say I was wrong for not attending any of the Alpha conferences..” I stood up from my seat. “I can accept that petition, but why in the world will they write a petition against me for not having a Luna!” I took the files one more time.
But this time I shredded it,Carl gasped at my actions. I went back to my seat waiting for him to say another word in support of those people.
“I'm your friend Jayden but I really suggest you go for the conference this time around.” He pleaded.
“I'm not scared of anyone,if you were thinking they might hurt me.” I said in a bold tone.
“I know you aren't afraid of anyone, going there wouldn't remove a strand of hair from you but will make them see you in a new light.”
“And you know…you might even find her..your mate there.” Carl said and I glared at him.
He gave me an apologetic smile before bolting out of my office,I grunted when he had gone contemplating whether to go or not.
After making the decision to go,I took my phone and made a call.
“Jayden.”
“I need a favour from you.”
**
The atmosphere had changed and was now cold, one more reason for me hating this trip although Carl and Emma, my gamma, saw it as an opportunity to tour another city.
The Alpha conference was a meeting held yearly, the location of the event was depending on the Alpha hosting other people. I was never an extrovert and had poor dealings with people especially those who think highly of themselves.
Me going there now was to address their behaviour, they crossed the line when they spoke of me being mateless.
More of the reason why I brought Enma with me.
We arrived at the Storm Pack after ten good hours, the airport was crowded and different people trooped in.
“This is my first time being here,I heard the Storm Pack has a lot of natural resources.” Emma said as we waited for our ride.
“At least you know something.” Carl giggled.
Emma left my side and went to kick him in the groin,he groaned and I rolled my eyes. Another reason why I'm going to hate this trip.
Emma and Carl.
“Why on earth did you bring her here Jayden?” Carl hissed.
“To prove them wrong, Emma will act like my mate.” I answered and Carl stiffened.
My convoy arrived just in the middle of our conversation,my men came out, bowed in reference to the three of us before leading me to the car.
“I get that Jayden might be a little bit too much but why will you agree to act as his mate Emma Kyle!!” Carl ranted when we were in the car.
“It's an Alpha's request,and I'm glad I could help.” Emma countered.
“Relax Carl,Emma is just going to act like my mate while we are in the storm pack, it's not like I'm making her one.” I replied and I felt Emma's heart race drop.
I looked at her and our eyes met,she averted her gaze sadly.
I wondered why?
I glanced at Carl who also noticed but he shrugged, there was silence in the car and I used that as an opportunity to stare at the scenery outside, thinking about my mate and what she might be or look like.
Will I ever find her?
Will I ever be given a mate?
Or what if she was dead?
I refused to go to the house prepared for different Alpha instead I booked a hotel for me and my officials since the next day was the conference day.
A harsh knock on my door woke me up,I could hear the door knob twisting. Within a minute the door flung open and Carl walked in dressed up.
“I thought the event was in the evening.” I yawned and sat upright.
Carl shook his head and marched to the window,he pulled away the curtain and I could see that it was dark already.
I couldn't even sleep in peace.
“I was working throughout the day,I guess I strained my body too much.” I stood up from the bed.
The doorbell rang and Carl went to check who it was.I left the room Into the bathroom to freshen up. I came back outside and saw Carl checking some set's of tuxedo that was hung.
“What are you doing?” I asked him,as I dried my hair.
“Checking which of them would look best on you and will fit the theme of the event.” He answered as he looked through them.
I shrugged and went back to dressing, I later went with the blue Italian made tuxedo as Carl suggested. I was adjusting my cufflinks when I saw Carl giving a wary look.
“What.”
“Are you really going to announce Emma as your mate?” He came forward and stood by my side.
“No.” I sighed.
“Really! You changed your mind?” He asked and I nodded.
It wasn't like I didn't want to go ahead with my plan, but my wolf wouldn't let me rest. He wasn't in support of my decision at all, even after all these years of searching for her.
He still didn't give up when I thought about her yesterday, and the probability of her being dead he waved it off.
“My wolf doesn't want anyone taking her place.” I told Carl.
“You don't know how happy I am right now!” He screeched excitedly and I frowned…
“Why do I feel like there is more to these?” I arched my eyebrows.
Carl chuckled in response. He passed me my shoes and wristwatch and watched me wear them.
“I'm just excited that you didn't give up.” He said simply.
I stood up and straightened my clothes,I was prepared to face whoever filed that petition.
When I'm done with them they will be sorry for messing with me.
