Chapter 5

Jayden's POV

The Congress meeting ended well meeting my expectations,the Alphas that were gathered were very shocked when I addressed them strictly about the petition. The bubbling atmosphere they had created vanished into thin air.I didn't mind their murmurings but I was glad I made my stance.

“Alpha Jayden.” One of them approached me as I was about to leave.

“Who are you?” I arched my eyebrows,the man looked offended but quickly masked his expression.

“I'm Alpha Ryan of the Warm Wool Pack.” He stretched his hand.

I didn't shake him, he withdrew his hands and cleared his throat before looking at me,I could tell he was fuming inwardly.

“What do you want, Alpha Ryan?” I took the initiative to ask.

“Nothing Alpha Jayden, just wanted to greet you.” He chuckled.

“Well thank you,as you can see I'm leaving already.” I told him.

“Oh,safe ride.” Ryan mouthed and turned around.

Carl bursted into laughter when Ryan retreated,I sighed and went Inside the car. I had a reason why I refused to get close with those Alpha,not all of them have good intentions, they were all after their own selfish interest.

“Any update on the pack?” I asked Carl.

“Nothing, things are well in place.” Carl responded.

“Are you good?” Carl asked but the question wasn't directed to me ,it was to Emma.

I turned to look at the back where she was seated,She was oddly quiet staring into space which wasn't like her.

“Yeah,are you okay?” I asked and she looked at me.

“It's nothing Alpha, I'm just tired.” She responded.

I nodded and adjusted back in my seat, Carl briefed me about the pack issues as we were returning. I made some suggestions about what to be adjusted and what to be fixed in time.Carl was an intelligent person and he gave some advice which I feel could be added too.

The trip back to the pack wasn't smooth.As we approached the pack borders,Carl called my attention to the patrol guards that were suspiciously gathered.

“I thought you said there were no issues at the pack.” I scowled at Carl.

“That…was…the report.” He stuttered.

“Then what's going on there?” I asked him.

I ordered the car to be pulled over,I stepped out of the car and they did also. The patrol guards noticed me and they bowed,I walked further to where they were,they made way for me and I looked at the ground where they had gathered before and my heart skipped a beat.

On the ground was a naked woman covered with bruises and cuts of all kinds, blood stains that had dried up.Her hair scattered all over her face but the strange part was that I felt a strong pull towards her.

She's my mate and she is dead?

I walked closer,fear gripped me as I tried to hear her heartbeat,I was let down when I didn't hear the pumping of her blood,I sighed bitterly about letting out a howl of sorrow when my ear picked up her pulse.

She is still alive!

I growled at my men when I caught them trying to steal glances at her naked body. I took off my wool jacket and rushed to cover her body before scooping her in my hands.

“What's wrong?” Carl ran towards me as I was heading to where the car was.

“Inform Detrex that there is an emergency!” I bolted past him with the woman in my hands.

“What's wrong? Who is she?” Emma threw a series of questions which I didn't reply to.

I growled at Carl who was taking time in driving to the pack hospital, seeing how paranoid I was Carl increased the speed, while Emma kept quiet.

I stared at my mate who was still in my arms,I could feel her body getting closer as the seconds clicked. My mind wandered of thinking about what could have led to her being in this state?

She wasn't a rogue,her scent didn't point her as one.She looked like someone who was left alone in a battlefield,the scars on her body and on her face,her wrinkled lips.

I prayed to whoever was listening that she wouldn't die.

Carl pulled over and Detrex the pack doctor and some of his workforce were outside already with a stretcher. I opened the door and carried her out laying her on the stretcher and they pulled into the hospital alongside me.

“Alpha Jayden, you have to step outside.” Detrex blocked my path and I growled at him.

“She is in good hands.” Carl touched my shoulder.

My eyes bounced from Detrex to my mate who they had surrounded and was about to start the treatment,all eyes were on me. Meaning I was the only thing stopping them from proceeding.

I clenched my fist and walked outside the ward,I went to sit outside and waited for them to be done.

“Here.” Carl stretched a napkin to me,he pointed to my clothes that were now dirty.

I sighed, took it from him and wiped the dirt off, Carl took his seat next to me and we both stared at the door.I know Carl wanted to ask me so badly what was going on. But I was glad he didn't because I really don't have the answer to that.

Several hours passed and Detrex wasn't out,Carl had dozed off beside me when I didn't sleep a wink,the door finally opened Detrex walked out his lab coat stained with my mate '’’s blood.

I stood up and walked to him. “Tell me.” I demanded.

“It's a miracle she is still alive, never seen a wolf like her before.” He said and I breathed a sigh of relief. “She is stabilized but still unconscious,it would take weeks or months for her wolf to recuperate.” He added.

“Thank you Detrex.” I thanked him sincerely. “Can I go see her?” I requested.

Detrex said it was safe for me to see her.I went into the room and a gasp escaped from my mouth as my eyes scanned the machines that were beeping and the pump and wires connected to her body.

And my eyes darkened,my mind made up to get back at whoever did this to her.
