the dream
I found myself in a bewildering state, unable to move or speak. It was as if an invisible force had taken control of my body, leaving me powerless. Suddenly, I found myself back in the village amidst chaos. Flames engulfed everything in sight, and terrified people ran in every direction. But amidst the chaos, I heard that haunting voice again. It resonated with sorrow and pain, like the mournful wail of a grieving widow. Driven by curiosity, I turned towards the voice, only to find emptiness. The fire had ceased, and the village lay in silence. Confused and unsettled, I found myself standing on a familiar path leading into the dreaded depths of the forest. The voice persisted, cutting through my very being and infiltrating my soul. I could sense the presence of an unknown entity, and then I heard it call my name. “Onjefu.” I turned and searched, but there was no one to be found, only an icy hand on my bare shoulder. A chill ran down my spine, paralyzing my entire body. I couldn’t even move my eyes as cold sweat drenched my now overheated body. I felt the weight of the world rest upon my shoulders, as though an unimaginable force pressed down on me. The heat emitted by this mysterious entity was hotter than anything I have ever experienced. Its thunderous, booming voice overwhelmed me, suffocating my spirit. Fear gave way to a complex mix of contempt and guilt, though I couldn’t comprehend why I always felt this way. I longed to shed tears, but they refused to come. And just like that, the ordeal ended abruptly, and I could finally breathe again. Waking up with a gasp, I found myself clutching my throat and struggling for air. Sweat cascaded down my body like a waterfall, soaking the pillow beneath me. The room was illuminated, the light piercing through the darkness, leaving me in a state of disarray and confusion. This is the third time I’ve had the same dream, and tonight’s was particularly intense and different. It all began earlier this year when I visited a prophet. Being the first child of my family, I had many responsibilities. My parents worked hard to provide me with an education, but nine years after graduating, I found myself without a job or any means of livelihood. I had to witness my mother’s passing due to typhoid fever, as we couldn’t afford her treatment. Every attempt I made to improve my situation failed, and after nine years of trying, I became frustrated and decided to seek a spiritual solution. So, at the start of this year, I visited a prophet who was recommended to me by a neighbor. After waiting in line for hours just to see him, the only thing he said to me was, “You need to make peace with your past in order to move forward, an eye for an eye.” And just like that, he dismissed me rather hastily. That was when my nightmares began. Despite attempting to see the prophet again, I was denied entry by his secretary. I still don’t fully understand what the problem is, but I am determined to find out one way or another. The statement “make peace with your past in order to move forward” has stuck with me. I have contemplated every action I have taken in the past, trying to figure out if I have unintentionally hurt someone and need to make amends. However, I haven’t found any incident that would explain the circumstances I find myself in.
