Bobbi had been on her way home from work when she got an urgent page from the CNO about a serious patient event on one of her units. “f**k it. I can’t ever get a break,” she muttered as she made a U-turn to return to Orlando Memorial. She had no details other than the vague text message, but she knew it had to be serious if the CNO had already been informed.
She called the stepdown unit and asked for the charge nurse. “What’s going on, Amy? I just got a page from Linda.”
The skin on Bobbi’s arms and neck warmed as she learned of the news. She was completely unprepared, and the anxiety increased a hundredfold. “How could that have happened?”
