Dusty got tickets for her and Nicki to see the game on opening day. The ladies were excited. Although she wouldn’t admit it, even to Dusty, Nicki’s pulse kicked up at the idea of seeing Nat again, even if it was only watching him in the dugout, because he couldn’t play.
Nicki tore her closet apart, looking for something to wear. Striking a balance between sexy and appropriate proved to be difficult. Showing Nat what he’d been missing motivated her. Of course, he’d tried to get back together. Nicki had kept them apart. The sting of coming in second to Lucy Albright hadn’t worn off yet.
Grateful that Rowley had gone to spring training, she had evaded either going out or shutting it down with him. Avoidance had worked wonders, but now she expected his call any time.
