Knox watched the cherry-red ferry approach the dock. He had planned to pick them up at the airport, but his father preferred to rent a car at the airport and bring it across on the ferry. The family cars were being shipped as well. Squinting against the sun, he saw his parents and Penny at the rail. His daughter’s fair, reddish-blond hair was a copper beacon against the bright blue sky. As soon as the ferry docked, Penny was first off. She raced toward him.
