Emily did not argue with her, and was glad they had been roomies before Senior year. It was a small one bedroom cabin, and was only a single bed. She left the door open and collapsed onto it exhausted, drifting to sleep easily.
She foumd herself in a meadow, surrounded by flowers and a flowing creek. It was extremely beautiful, and the peace she felt let her know it was no where on Protura.
"Apologies child, I was not expecting such a tragic occurence to trigger your ability before you changed. I fear however it is only the beginning, and may need to take drastic actions to ensure balance is maintained." a figure with golden skin said to her.
"Who are you and what are you talking about?" Emily asked fearing she already knew the answer.
"I go by many names, and have been many people. Most however call me Moon Goddess in some form, and I am speaking of the vision you experienced last night. Sometime tragic occurences can trigger an ability before the change." she explained.
"So what I saw was true?" Emily asked surprised.
"Yes child, it was indeed real." she answered sitting next to the creek. She invoted Emily to sit next to her as she stuck her feet into the flowimg water. "You were meant to have a powerful gift that would have warned you of an attack like this. It would have forced the Wolf Nation to realize that just because you are so far from the oldest child, you were no less valuable. The attack by the Vampires was a symptom of a larger war, and I fear it will reignite the wars." the Moon Goddess said as she sat down.
"What drastic actions are you considering?" Emily asked trying to process something other than death, destruction and mayhem.
"That depends on you child." she replied as Emily sat next to her and stuck her feet in the water as well.
"Why would it depend on me?" Emily asked.
The Moon Goddess filled the meadow with her pleasing laughter, and Emily found it to be the most beautiful thing she had heard. "My dear the answer is infinitely complicated, but you will soon find yourself the sole survivor of the Royal Family. Even as removed as you were, you are technically queen now. Your fate has been drastically altered because of this attack, and as such I can reweave it with a few tweaks. The only question is will you embrace this new destiny, or will you run and hide while the world around you falls apart?" The Moon Goddess asked knowing she had intended to run as far from the wolf world as she could.
"Are you asking if I want to rule the Wolf Nation in war, or if I want peace?" Emily asked her curiously.
"I am indeed. One future will lead to many possible pains, but has a hope for a bright future. The other you will live your life in relative peace, however the wolf nation will likely fail with the entire royal family believed dead." she answered as Emily considered it.
"Why did my family have to die?" Emily asked after what felt like an eternity amd a second all at once.
"Honestly it was because of your ability of sight. You would have prevented the attack for many years, and their god ordered them to destroy you before you could gain your powers. They did not realize you would be away at school when the Wolf schools had all returned home last week. Because of a servant you have a choice, hide from the danger until you can live your life as a human. Or face more danger than you have ever faced before, but be the last hope of the wolf nation." the Moon Goddess told her as they sat there.
Emily thought about it for only a short time, as she knew in her hesrt she wanted vengeance for what had happened. "I will face whatever I must to make the mosters responsible for what I witnessed pay." Emily said fiercely.
"Good, remain in the caves until after you change for the first time. I will ensure the correct people know where to find you. There is someone you must meet first, than you will need to wait. Trust your instincts, they will take you far when you listen to them." The Moon Goddess said as a white wolf walked from the trees.
She stood on two legs, and Emily knew that she was another Divine Being. "Hello Emily, I am Selene. It seems we will get to know eachother well." she said as she shook hands with Emily.
As soon as their hands touched there was a flash of light, and Emily could only see Selene when she looked at her reflection in the creek. "What happened?" Emily demanded as Selene nodded.
"I believe our souls were just fused. However I could be mistaken." Selene said in her reflection alrhough she could be heard aloud. It took another moment and she retook form on the celestial plane looking at her mother. "Mother, you could have asked." she said crossly.
"It will be safer for you there, as she is not the only one in danger. Keep each other safe, and no matter what happens know you are the key to peace. Each of you have a surprise, as sight is not one of my abilities." the Moon Goddess said before Emily woke up back in the cabin.
The door slammed shut as Ashley came back in, only giving her an hours sleep before she had woke back up. "The perimeter alarms are set, and no one will. e sneaking up on us." she reported as she sat down.
"We need to go to the caves at first light." Emily replied knowing that is where they would be safest.
"I have my orders, and they say to stay here for 72 hours before evacuating to the caves." Ashley said exasperated.
"Standing orders, or were they issued after the attack?" Emily asked now worried about that.
"Standing..." Ashley trailed off as she considered the same thing. "The caves however are nor part of my known orders. Your mother added that little bit in." she said as she grabbed a bag and stuffed supplies in it. She set defenses, that would make it appear two women were inside should they use heat vision.
Within minutes of them making a quick escape from the back of the cabin, they heard several cars come to a screeching halt on the soft gravel outside the front of the cabin. They heard several cars doors slam s**t before the deafening roar of automatic gunfire filled the quiet forest.
Just when Emily swore it couldn't get any louder the cabin exploded spectacularly, sending shrapnel all over the men and into the trees they were hiding in.
Ashley and Emily could tell they were vampires, and knew this was their last chance to escape. They quietly slipped deeper into the trees, and after another hour they made it to the caves where they would hole up.
Ashley led Emily deep into them, her father the only one who knew the exact location of their secret hideout. The news so far was that the entire Wolf Royal Family had been taken out, but that it had not yet been confirmed. Until it was one way or the other, the Wolf Nation would be lead by the Council of Alphas.
Ashley activated the beacon that would alert her father, as he had long ago retired from the Security Council. She just hoped that with everything going on, he would be able to come fairly quickly. "We need to consider movong again, we do not know how secure we are here." Ashley said as she was even more exhausted now.
"No, we stay here. We will be safe until your father arrives after the full moon. After that we will have our work cut out for us." Emily said as she looked around. There were two cots, and she knew she would likely find other supplies nearby.
"Why would vampires attack us after all this time?" Ashley pondered aloud.
Emily had no clue, other than she was they key in some way. She didn't know how to explain the feeling, but she knew it was not going to be an easy time. "We shall discover the truth of it, but we need to rest." she said as she sat on the nearest cot.
"We cannot rest at the same time." Ashley said stubbornly.
"Fine, than wake me in a few hours so I can stand watch." Emily retorted as she laid down and fell asleep quickly considering.
She dreamt about an encounter with a man, and knew his red glowing eyes were a sign of immense power. She also knew that when they turned black as they had just done, that he was having a vision of the future.
"Run, keep her safe at all costs. I will hold them back as long as I can." the man said to the wolf who carried the baby with her teeth. "She must reach adulthood, otherwise her powers will never mature. Always remember I love you both Stephanie." he said before she felt the tug from the harness as she was swiftly carried away.
The next thing she knew she was back in the meadow, and Selene was standing before her. "I have a feeling there is more to our pasts than either of us have been informed." she said cryptically as she stood there.
"You may be right, but why does it matter now? What could have happened that the Vampires would go to war again over it?" Emily asked wondering.
"I think once we know the answer to that, we will know the answers to a great many questions. Rest, we will need it once we are found." Selene said as Emily drifted deeper into sleep.
