Chapter 8- Like A Statue

1116 Words
The sun is setting and in just a few hours, the moon will be visible in the sky. I can already see and hear; the crickets and fireflies coming out. It's getting dark and we have to be careful since this part of Witch's forest is very dangerous. “Are you sure this is the right way, Rom?” I asked my brother who have been silent for the past 30 minutes. “I don't know, I'm just following what's written in this book.” He sluggishly answered. Grr! I hate it if he's being like this! “Don’t be lazy and read it carefully, Rom!” “Shush, Rem. I know what I'm doing, probably?” Ah! He's so dumb! “Gosh, Rom!” I can't believe this! We've been walking for hours just to find the Witch's Castle, and if not for this kid’s terrible sense of directions we should have found it already! “Look! We're here.” said Rom pointing at an old barren Castle. “Wow…” I looked amazed. This is my first time seeing a castle. How big! It's a million times bigger than our house. “There’s no door, how do we get in?” it’s pity that they cannot afford a door. How do they get in without a door? “According to the book, if we state these words–it will let us in.” Great Grandpa's book has a lot of information regarding the Witch residing in the Castle, it's helps us a lot to get us here. “What words?” “This, ‘Lumpia Shanghai.’” Rom read it aloud. Lumpia Shanghai? The password is about food! I guess the Witch is the kind of person where her world revolves around food. “Then let us say it together! If something happens both of us will die.” I'm excited! Will it be breathtaking and out of this world like Great Grandpa's book describe the inside of the Castle! “We still both die if we don't say it together, you know?” I ignored Rom's words. “On the count of three! One!” I started because I can't wait to get inside! “Two.” Rom “Three!” “Three.” “Lumpia Shanghai!” “Lumpia Shanghai.” Rom and I said it together and we waited for a magic portal to drag us in but, nothing happened. “Rom, why are we not yet inside?” I asked Rom, maybe he has a clue. “I don't know.” He replied while checking the book again. “Maybe it’s because you didn't said it louder!” that's it! Rom should do it again and this time make it louder. “Rom, let's do it again and this time make it louder!” I suggest, however Rom just walks away. “Where are you going? Are you giving up?” I tried to stop Rom from walking away but he’s not listening. “Rom! Don't give up!” I was about to cry and get mad at Rom yet I heard a shrieking sound. “There's a backdoor.” He opened it and gesture ‘Look’. “Then what happened to the front door?” I asked while I wipe my tears. “It’s out of magic, that's why the password is not working.” If it's out of magic that's mean… the witch is… “Yes, the witch is not using her magic anymore but thanks to Great Grandpa, the barrier is still maintained.” Rom read my mind. “By the way, did you cry?” Rom teased. “No, I didn't!” I protest! Back to the topic, “Then, why didn't Great Grandpa just use also his magic for the Castle so that until now, the Castle is still in good shape?” We are inside of the Castle and it’s nowhere alike described in Great Grandpa's book. It's more on a haunted Castle than a Grand and Exquisite Castle. Boulders and dust are everywhere, a religious stained-glass is no longer can be identify and chandeliers is dangling and ruin. “Rem, are you dumb?” he said with a pity look saying, ‘are you really my blood?” “Rem, you know the answer, why are you still asking?” “Sorry for being dumb! I just want to know, why just Great Grandpa use his magic than making his own kin as a caregiver for the Witch!?” Instead of answering me, he gave me a silent treatment. “Answer me!” “I’m tired of talking, you know–you can read my mind, right?” Oh right, I forgot but I won't do that! “We have a deal not to read each others mind!” and he just read my mind just a minute ago! “But, I'm tired of talking.” “Lazy bastard!” “Shh! Look.” I stopped my tantrum and gazed the thing that Rom's pointing at. We are distanced away but we can clearly see who is it. It's already night and the light that we only have is from the moon that is placed to her. It's feel like the Moon is saying, ‘This is now your stage, dance.” But the performance that we only see is her silver hair glistening that is covering her face and by any chance, we expected that she moves and show us her true performance. But, she didn't and stayed seated on her throne. Her name is forbidden to say, anyone who called her are granted a malevolent punishment that is why, we called her– The Witch. Just like said in the book, the Witch is resting in her throne in gold made by a refined Chair-maker. It was build especially for her. Great Grandpa stated that the Witch, as much as possible would not sit on her throne for she is troubled that she would damage the throne that built for her. And, the first time she sat on it, is the time she cursed herself and until now she is stuck on the curse she made. No one expected this throne's purpose is will be her resting place. “Rom, what should we do now?” I didn't take off my gaze on the witch, I can't help myself but feel pity to her. “Let’s stay away from her and do what we came here.” I agreed not because the witch may do something to me, the reason is…it's written in the book that we should keep our distance to the Witch and don't ever cross the mark.
