Chapter Six

907 Words
Selena reached the little town just as the moon was reaching its highest peak in the sky. The town was quiet except for a few drunkards who were laughing loudly in front of a club with neon lights flashing on its sign. She walked around the streets, trying to find a hotel to spend the night in until she came across a wide three star hotel. Making her into the lobby, she was relieved to see that no one was there to see her bloody clothes, except for the receptionist. She paid for the room and quickly took the keys, relieved that the snobby receptionist hadn't looked her way even once. She wouldn't want to explain the blood, especially being a stranger in town. Her whole body was in pain and her and her leg seemed to be worse than the last time. The hotel was grand but she didn't mind, she really needed to rest. The paint on the walls was chipping off and the water in the geyser was taking way to long to heat up, so she just decided to slide underneath the cold shower of water and watched as the water on the tiles first turned pink then a dark shade of red. After scrubbing her body of all the dried blood, she managed to find some bandages in one of the bathroom cabinets and dressed her wounds. The bed looked inviting as exhaustion got the better of her, making her ly on top of the covers. Her mind was to tired to think of what had happened in the forest but she knew it couldn't be good. Especially with the grey wolf staring at her locket. Her Grandma had told her to keep it hidden at all times but somehow she had let it slip out of her shirt. A feeling of anxiousness settled in the pit of her stomach. She didn't know what would happen if people saw her necklace. She didn't even know what was special about it, for all she knew was that it was a family heirloom and it had to be kept away from prying eyes. All the thinking was giving her a headache so she decided to call it a night and fell asleep. **************** Selena woke up at the crack of dawn, more determined than she had ever been. She had had a nightmare that night. She dreamt of her parent's death and her Grandma's lifeless eyes. When it seemed that the dream was beginning to succeed in suffocate her, she had woken up drenched in sweat and tears. Her tired feet lifted her off the bed towards the bathroom. Her leg was almost healed except for a slight pain she felt everytime she put too much pressure on it. After taking a quick hot shower and getting dressed, Selena packed all her belongings and checked out of the motel. Her map stated that she was in the werewolf kingdom, the Kingdom of Krystavia. The town she was in was merely a few miles from the border between the two kingdoms. The town was still quiet at that time of day and the only noise she could hear was she sound of her boots clicking on the cold pavement. The forest line was in her view when she got the feeling that she was being watched but she shaked the feeling off. As soon as she was beyond the forest line, she broke into a sprint. The cool morning air filled her lungs as she breathed in the fresh scent of spicey, wet bark filled her nostrils. She felt a sense of freedom she had never felt before, like she had no troubles in the world at all. A smile appeared on her face. She liked this feeling but unfortunately, all good things must come to a end. The air in her lungs was knocked out when a something slammed right into her side. She landed a few feet away with a sharp pain in her side. Looking up, she saw a man, a vampire to be specific. He had a robust and intimidating stature. His eyes were a fascinating scarlet red and his fangs were bared at her. Struggling, she managed to stand up. He charged at her again, and she thought she could counter his move but he was just too fast. He had to be a professional fighter. His fist hit her side and Selena hissed in pain as she heard her ribs crack. She couldn't understand why people were after her, or why they were trying to beat her to death. Breathing was becoming increasingly difficult as blood began to fill her left lung. He towered over her, smirking at her weak attempt to get up. He knew she was in pain and that he had to get her to the King before her lung filled with blood. As he look at her in that moment, he couldn't see what the fuss was all about. The King had told him she possessed her mother's wrath but right then, she looked like any other ordinary vampire. Slightly whimpering and clutching her bruised stomach. After contemplating his next move for a while, he decided he enjoyed his quiet sprinting. Raising Selena off the ground with a hand around her neck, he slammed her head into a nearby rock, instantly plunging Selena into darkness.
