It was well into the night as Stephen walked back to his pack house. The third-in-command lay unconscious on his shoulder. He shocked at the events that had taken place a few hours back. He couldn't believe he had been beaten by a woman, he was the beta of the Royal Rose after all. The wound over his eye and cheek was not healing and he was worried. She had cut him with the Angel's Blade and he would take very long to heal, or not at all.
His steps were slow and weak but he finally came to the door of the pack house. As soon as he twisted the door knob, he fell inward to his feet, letting the exhaustion finally take him down. Pack members immediately noticed and ran to help the injured pair. Stephen blacked out after that and only awakened after a few hours.
When he regained consciousness, he saw his alpha standing by the widow, gazing at the rising sun. Even with his face turned away, Stephen knew his alpha was tensed because of his rigid back and deep breathing. After a few minutes of uncomfortable silence in the room, the alpha turned and looked at his injured beta.
Alpha Jaxon was a powerful man. He was alpha of the Royal Rose pack and also King of the Werewolves kingdom, the Krystavian Kingdom. He had raven black hair and and eyes that seemed to be shade darker. He looked like the kind of man many wouldn't want to double cross but only his pack members knew that he was a good man at heart. He was a righteous man and had demolished all bad laws when he came into power.
"What happened, Stephen?" The alpha's booming voice broke the silence in the room.
"I don't know, Alpha. When we picked up the unfamiliar scent we thought it was a vampire or a rouge. But, as we got closer, we were confused because she smelt like both."
Stephen stopped, unsure if what he had just said was believable.
The Alpha was quiet for a few seconds before he finally voiced his thoughts, "What do you mean, she smelt like both?"
"I'm not even sure if what I witnessed is possible. But that wasn't what shocked me..." Stephen hesitated to say what he saw. If he was wrong, he would send his troubled alpha into a wild goose chase all for nothing.
Alpha Jaxon frowned, clearly frustrated by Stephen's hesitation.
"Speak up, Stephen. What is it?!", Jaxon shouted.
"She was wearing the Krystavian family heirloom."
************
Alpha Jaxon sat at his desk, absent mindedly staring at a bunch of papers on his desk. He couldn't stop thinking about what Stephen had told him. He wanted it to be true but at the same time he didn't want to raise his hopes and get disappointed at the end of the day. He had spent so long alone, he was starting to get used to it and then this suddenly happens.
Alpha Jaxon thought of his life. He grew up in the Midnight Rose pack. His mother had been Luna of the pack but his father had died when he was just eleven. When his mother was killed due to a rogue attack, he was made alpha and sought-after the rogues who had killed his mother. A few years later, he had received a message from King Stefan, who was King of the Werewolf Kingdom then.
When he arrived at the palace, he had realised that rumours of the King being sickly weren't rumours after all. Dark circles were clearly visible on his pale white skin. His lips were chapped and his hair seemed to be falling off. The king lay in bed coughing uncontrollably. When the coughing fit finally died down, the sickly old man looked at Jaxon.
My son, was what the dying king had called Jaxon. According to the king, Jaxon's mother, Rarity, had been his mate. Their relationship was short lived though. After being together for only a few months, Stefan's mother, who was the current queen, had told him that he couldn't be with her. He was told he could only marry someone of eugenic birth, just like himself. Stefan had agreed and kicked Rarity out of his life, a decision that he would later regret for the rest of his life. Unknowingly, when Rarity left she was already bearing his pup.
After giving birth to Jaxon, she had met the man he knew as his father. He was her second chance and she was sincerely happy with him because he treated her the way she was meant to be treated.
The news had shocked Jaxon, especially being told that he was being crowned prince and also alpha of the Royal Regal pack. He then merged the two packs to form the Royal Rose pack. Within months, the king died and he was made King of Krystavia. The sudden change in his life had unexpectedly left him depressed instead of happy.
Fortunately, he had soon met his mate, Lorraine. She was the most beautiful woman he had ever seen. Though she didn't live in the kingdom like most werewolves, he made sure to invite her to his palace where he introduced her to his people as the Queen of Krystavia. They completed the mating process soon after and welcomed a healthy baby boy into the world.
They were living the perfect life for years. Their son grew up to be a strong and righteous young man, taking over the pack when he turned eighteen. Unfortunately, all good things really do come to an end. The peace was disrupted when, Lucas, the Prince of Krystavia, found his mate. It was an impossible match, one that had never been seen before. Jaxon and Lorraine were worried about the consequences that the union of their son and his mate would bring them but they knew there was nothing they could do.
Lucas began meeting his mate in secret. Soon after, rumours were heard that the girl was with child . The whole kingdom began panicking, as did the home kingdom of the young woman. The two kingdoms had signed a treaty centuries before the incident, following years of violent wars. Now with the pregnancy sparking new flames of hatred between the two neighbouring kingdoms, the treaty couldn't seem to retain the peace anymore.
Riots sprouted throughout the kingdoms when the baby was born. The people were fearful of what kind creature had been born from that union. People began planning to kill the ban along with its parents for they feared that a great evil would befall them if they didn't get of that abomination of a family. Lucas and his mate decided to flee the underworld, terrified for the life of their little girl but the people wouldn't let them leave just like that. During one of the invasions, Lorraine had been killed trying to protect the young family. Soon after, Lucas had left with his mate and child without informing Jaxon. Years of searching had gone by until Jaxon recieved word that his son and daughter-in-law has been killed in the underworld.
The loss of his entire family had broken him. He had accepted that life had defeated and tried moving on despite having the feeling that his granddaughter was still out there.
And now this had happened. The Krystavian family heirloom had been seen around the neck of a potentially dangerous vampire-rogue, as Stephen had described her scent. There was only one thing he wanted more than anything at that moment as he sat at his desk.
And that was to find his granddaughter, Selena Luciano.
