Chapter Four

1272 Words
Truly speaking, forests in the shimmering daylight were a magnificent sight. Green and brown blurs of trees flew past Selena as she sprinted through the forest to the place where she had located the Purple Devil tree and Dracula orchids. She felt anxious and excited at the same time. She was finally going to know where she came from and who she was. After sprinting for hours, Selena came to a stop. She could smell the tree, it was really close by. Her eyes skimmed over the forest floor until she caught sight of her only ticket to her past and future. She slowly trekked towards the distinct colour of the Purple Devil tree. She reached into her backpack and retrieved the bottle of blood she had gotten from her attacker. The crimson red blood poured into the cups of the Dracula orchids, the blood in deep contrast to the natural colour of the orchids. Selena stood up anxiously from her crouched position and waited for any sort of reaction or change in the air. A few seconds passed as she waited, beginning to doubt what the man had told her. Just as she was beginning to lose hope, she felt an electric charge in the air. Her eyes snapped to the tree where she noticed a violet, translucent portal begin to form in the air. It took a few minutes before the portal enlarged to full body size. She slipped her hand through and watched, in awe, as her hand disappeared right before her eyes. She grabbed her backpack and hesitated for a while before she stepped into the portal. She felt a surge of electricity flow through every cell in her body. Right there, as she stood between two utterly different worlds, she realised she was beginning a new chapter in her life. One that was full of uncertainty, hidden truths and mysteries. However anxious she was of the journey she was to embark on, she knew the next step was the most crucial she was going to take on during her short life. She took the next step. Her body completely entered the portal. She felt electricity course through her veins as the feeling of weightlessness embraced her. She felt like she was floating in the air as a loud ringing filled her sensitive eardrums. After what felt like hours of the loud torture, the feeling of weightlessness finally left and she dropped to the ground. She slowly lifted herself up, feeling as if she has spent hours cooped up in a tiny space. She was knocked out of her breath when she looked up to observe the beautiful scenery around her. It was the same place she usually dreamt of. The lush green trees were gently swaying as the chirping of birds filled the air. It was beautiful, serene even. The air was filled with a captivating musky, floral sent. The sky was beginning to fill with different shades of reds, oranges and yellows. Selena took out her map and carefully studied it. There was a small town about a few hours away. She had to get it before it was dark and she didn't want to encounter and rogue wolves. ************* Selena had been sprinting for about three hours when she decided to take a few minutes rest. It was dusk and the forest was beginning to quiet down with the arrival of the moon. Her hands drifted to her locket, she thought of her family again. She had taken of the wolfsbane because it was weakening her system and slowing her down. Lost in her thoughts, Selena didn't her the quiet steps that were taken towards her. She felt sudden pain in her back as she was flung into the air and thrown into a nearby tree trunk. The old bark immediately splintered as the tree broke from the impact. Large claws dug into her already injured knee as blood began to pour out. She got a glimpse of her attackers when she mustered the strength to throw them off. They were two werewolves. One had shiny grey fur and an incredibly huge posture. He must've been of a higher ranking because of the authority he seemed to hold. The other had dull brown hair and a menacing snare on his face. He was the one who had attacked her because her blood was dripping off of his paws. Oddly enough, the grey wolf was calmer than the brown wolf, who was acting hysterical. They seemed to be deep into thought, glaring at each other, possibly mind linking. So Selena took the chance to open her backpack and swiftly drew the wolfsbane from her backpack. The weakening stench of the herb immediately drew the attention of the savage beasts. The hysterical brown wolf swung a bloodied paw at Selena but his movements were slow and clumsy. She easily caught his paw and tossed him into the air, watching him do a flip in the air before he landed on the ground with a loud thud. Her hand reached for the Angel's Blade that was tucked into her boots. This time, the grey wolf was the one who launched at her and she was worried she wouldn't be able to fight him. Instinctively, she swung the blade towards him, the blade slicing right over his eyes. Blood began staining his shiny fur as it literally poured out of the wound. He staggered back, stunned by the sudden move and let out a loud howl. The brown wolf charged at Selena with a new profound anger. His teeth were bared with his fangs showing. Selena wasted no time at all. She leaped to meet the wolf midair, ignoring the excruciating pain that accompanied the action. She wrapped her arms around his neck and twisted to immobilize him rather than kill him. His loud whimpers echoed through the dark forest as he fell to ground. Both wolves now were lying before her, writhing in pain. Her thirst immediately made itself known as a burning feeling began building up in the back of her throat. She contemplated whith one of the two would be a worthy meal and decided the brown wolf had given her most trouble. She slowly stalked towards him, unaware of the horrifying loot in her eyes. Fear clouded his eyes as lay on the ground like helpless prey. She slowly crouched down, suddenly interested in the rapid pulsing blood deep in the veins of his furry neck. Swiftly, she swooped down to his neck and bit him. Warm, coppery blood filled her mouth as she drank like she had never before. Some of it dripped down the sides of her mouth, staining her neck and shirt but she didn't care. She just gulped down the liquid and could feel her leg slowly heal and bones snap back into place. After a few minutes, he stopped struggling and fell unconscious. She quickly withdrew from his neck, making his blood squirt in all directions. She watched the blood stained the nearby trees and ground with satisfaction. She loved the contrast between the crimson blood and the deep green colour of the trees. Eventually, the blood in his neck stopped squirting and began flowing in a downward direction that made it look like he had a deep red leash around his neck. What a beautiful sight, she thought. During her frenzied feeding, she hadn't noticed that her platinum locket had fell out of shirt and that the grey wolf was staring right at it.
