Inhumane Training

1575 Words
The chilly autumn weather and tough environment in the Eastern Mountains made it an arduous task for the weakened she-wolves to keep up with the harsh training regiment. Waking up at 4 am for breakfast and being ready in the training field at exactly 4:30 was a strict rule enforced with the punishment of running extra laps at the end of training when broken by the Delta Instructors. As an individual that used to cook for an entire pack before, Yusria had no problem adjusting. She woke only an hour earlier than her usual wake time. With the added benefit of three meals a day, good night rest from going to bed early, and strong motivation to become stronger, she easily evaded the extra lap punishments that instructors seemed to enjoy administering. However, that was as far as her advantage got. As the days bled into weeks and time passed, the she-wolves regained their strength and began to outshine her. "Get moving! Yusria, you need to cross the churning river in under 30 seconds!" Delta Henry hollered at the drenched female unsteadily wading through the icy waves at the speed of a snail. His nostrils flared in annoyance as he watched her with disapproval. Seeing how his shout didn't even seem to have an effect on her pace, he couldn't help but growl in dissatisfaction. "Yusria Lelius, what do you hope to accomplish by sticking around here? For goddess's sake, you can't even complete a 30-second dash through the river!" Delta Henry was exasperated beyond words with the young female. It's been more than a few weeks now since they've been training the rescued females. Good food and a bit of time for healing their wounds and scars had the rest of the group hipped up and growing stronger at remarkable speed. In fact, some of the she-wolves progressed at such an alarming speed that most of the training instructors were caught off guard and left speechless, causing them to sigh in awe and reverence at their Emperor's great foresight. Just like he had predicted, the she-wolves that had gone through the near-death experience and torture improved by leaps and bounds in the rigorous training deemed inhumane by most elites. Possibly motivated by the ordeals they had overcome, even though none of the she-wolves had managed to succeed in accomplishing the set goals of the weekly training evaluations, all of them had managed to get twenty-five percent of the way there, which was a great accomplishment in comparison to the various failed trials in many of the other eastern territories. But in this batch of astounding females, Yusria Lelius was an outlier. Out of all the females training in the Eastern Mountain ranges, she was the only one that failed to make any progress in growth. In the over ten types of different training evaluations, she failed to even score one percent in the combined set-goal results. This frustrated and irritated the short-tempered instructors who were pumped to earn favor with their Emperor to no end. They wanted to mold this batch of outstanding she-wolves into fierce warriors that impressed even the Emperor himself. But the embarrassing performance of Yusria Lelius made achieving this goal an impossible feat. After all, no matter how hard she tried, it was obvious to all that she didn't have the ability to keep up with those around her. It was obvious that she didn't have the assistance of a wolf. As a wolf-less female, Yusria would only drag down her team and crush the instructors' ambitions. But what was even more infuriating was the fact that, even when she was a liability, the instructors couldn't kick her out of the training ground without the Emperor's explicit order or the female herself stepping out to make the request. As such, every chance they got, the instructors couldn't help but nitpick at her weakness and holler at her. They hoped that if they ridiculed her long enough, she would realize she wasn't made out for the role of a warrior and come forward to request a release from the training grounds herself. "You are weak and wolf-less. No matter how hard you push yourself, you will never get anywhere. Rather than drag the training pace of the rest of the team, why don't you just leave!? You would be doing them and yourself a favor. Otherwise, you'll make a spectacle out of yourself and them before the Emperor!" Delta Henry crossed his arms and stared at her from his position across the river. "I can't leave. I'm here and I'll stay here to the end. Unless the Emperor orders me to leave, I won't leave!" Yusria hissed. "Yusria, you are wolf-less. Most of the training courses we do here require inhumane strength, speed, resilience and flexibility, as well as heightened senses. These are all traits that you don't possess and can never possess. When you are so incapable, how do you expect to keep up with us if you can't even complete a 30-second dash through the river?" A brown-haired she-wolf questioned in disgust. As a Beta's daughter and a strong female Beta herself, Haily couldn't stomach the fact that she had actually followed the lead of a wolf-less female during their escape from the rogue pack. What's more, now that she was the unnamed leader of the group of she-wolves, she felt even more embarrassed at the fact that she had followed the lead of a wolf-less female that didn't even have any outstanding abilities to speak of. "Haily's correct. With your wretched senses and lack of ability, you'll only drag us down. Why are you being so stubborn and not leaving!? Or...is your real intention actually to hinder us?" Another she-wolf asked aghast. Immediately, an uproar broke out among the spectating she-wolves. "No way! That can't be the reason why she's still here, can it?" "Why not? Otherwise, why would she still stay? We all know she won't be making any progress with such an obvious flaw, don't we?" "This...Yusria, just leave! Don't drag us down with you!" "Yes! Pack up and go home, already! We want to be warriors! We won't be dragged down by you, you invalid!" Animalistic growls and outraged cries rang out from the sides of the raging river as the she-wolves glowered and demanded for Yusria to leave and not drag them down. Their righteous snarls and rage resounded in the region. Hearing their outraged cry, Delta Henry wordlessly scoffed and expectantly looked at Yusria. Surely, the cry of the majority would now be enough to drive her away, right? Seeing the ugly expressions of the she-wolves she had escaped with, Yusria couldn't help but secretly sneer. Who did they think they were, demanding and ordering her to leave? When they were all in trouble and couldn't help themselves, it was her that had safely led them out of the Blood Moon pack's borders. Now that they had gained a little strength and recognition, they turned their backs on her? Disregarding the fact that they owed her their lives? For such ingrates, why would she give up her chance to become strong? Yusria knew she was an eye-sore to the instructors and the other she-wolves. This was made most evident in the tight group the she-wolves formed of which she was made an outcast. The snide remarks during meal times and occasional shoves during their morning drills wouldn't escape even a blind and deaf person. And the instructors' obvious disregard towards the she-wolves' mean remarks and unfriendly behavior needed no elaboration. Since so many individuals wanted her to give up and leave, Yusria refused to relent. This was her only chance to become strong. Even though she was wolf-less and her progress slow, Yusria didn't fail to notice that she was making progress. Slow and unimpressive as it seemed, every day, she was growing stronger. And just for this fact alone, she could not and would not leave. Heaving the giant log on her shoulders, Yusria ignored the scornful sneers and mocking ridicule of the she-wolves and took another step forward. A chilly wind blew over her soaked form and made her shiver. Her feet had gone numb from the cold water and the occasional splashes of water made her jump and almost topple over face-first into the coursing river. But she just planted her feet firmly and continued her progress forward. "This bi**h has no intention of giving up! Haily, what do we do?" "From her expression, she won't be leaving anytime soon. However...heh...sooner or later, I'm sure the training regime would become too difficult for her to even crawl at the speed of a snail. At that time, I want to see whether or not she'll still be able to doggedly stick around!" Haily scoffed disgustedly and flipped her hair. As a Beta, she had no fear of falling behind or failing to complete the training. However, the say couldn't be said for the little wolf-less sl**! "That's right! Once the training courses become more and more extreme, would we still have to worry about this bi**h dragging us down!? Surely, the instructors will kick her out for failing to meet the minimum requirement." "By then, whether she wants to leave or not, she'll be thrown out of the Eastern Mountains!" "Haha...! Can't wait to see her distraught appearance then!" Hearing the conversation of the surrounding she-wolves, Delta Henry's eyes instantly darkened.
