Ella was exhausted when they came back into their home through Nerion’s portal. Nerion saw she had fallen asleep on the couch. Picking her up in his arms, he took her to his room to sleep. He knew better than to enter her room. He did not have her permission. Ella looked beautiful in his silver clam-shaped bed, surrounded by thick pearls from his home clan.
He manifested a cotton-like bed and fell asleep on it, so that his female could get her rest. Ella woke up the next morning in an area she was not familiar with. She looked around and saw Nerion on another bed. She realized she had fallen asleep on the couch, and realized she had not yet given him permission to enter her room. His room was almost ethereal.
The lighting was soft and blue, like the glow of water, making everything look quiet and relaxed.
His clam-shaped bed sat low to the ground, wide and inviting, covered in dark blue sheets that had a smooth, almost silky look. Layers of blankets and oversized pillows were piled on top, making it feel more like a place to sink into than just sleep. The fabrics looked soft and slightly flowing, like they could move with you instead of against you.
Around the room, there were small touches of the ocean—shells placed on shelves, pieces of coral, and colors that shifted between deep blue, teal, and hints of purple. The furniture had rounded edges, nothing sharp or harsh, adding to the gentle feel of the space.
The air carried a faint scent of salt, clean and subtle. Everything about the room felt comfortable, quiet, and a little different, like it was made for someone who preferred softness, calm, and the feeling of being close to the sea. Ella glanced over at her sleeping mate. He slept in only shorts, and her eyes traveled over his abs. Nerion's build was smaller, but still looked as if he was going to the gym. Ella guessed it was just perfect genetics.
His brown braids framed his face. Ella found herself wanting to run her hands through his hair. Nerion’s eyes opened and met her own curious ones. He smiled. Her hair was messy but somehow she looked even more perfect.
“Sleep well?’, he asked her and she nodded. He used his tentacles to pick up her body and bring her to him. The feel of his cold tentacles made Ella shiver, but it wasn’t a horrible feeling. He placed her in his arms so she could lay on his chest. He was always warm, but his tentacles were cold.
“Why are your tentacles cold?” Ella asked. Nerion kissed the top of her head.
“My tentacles regulate with the ocean on the planet my kind is from," he explained.
“We have to get ready soon. Meeting with Blaze today," Ella said.
“Are you sure you want to come?” Nerion asked. His biggest fear wasn't letting her come, it was knowing they would run into Lucian and Silas as well. This meeting was an S rank meeting only, with the exception being Ella, his mate. “Lucian and Silas will be there as well," Nerion told her. Her expression soured at the thought of Lucian being there. He had said he would come over yesterday, and had sent a message to her to meet next time, due to business.
At the thought of Silas, however. She smiled. She had wondered if she would be seeing Silas again. He wasn’t her mate, but he had been on her mind a bit yesterday.
Nerion, noticing her mood had gone from dark to light, wondered what she could be thinking. He didn’t pry though. After they lay in bed for another hour, they both washed up and dressed in their own rooms, though Nerion offered to wash and dress Ella, but she declined and did both herself. Nerion had Ella shop for many clothes yesterday and covered all the expenses for it, so Ella had many clothes to choose from. She settled on a yellow sundress with white sandals. She put her own hair in a ponytail, not wanting to deal with it.
Ella was always bad at doing hair, and even kept her own hair in a ponytail in her previous life. She came out of her room, and Nerion was waiting for her at the door, dressed in a brown-collar shirt with blue jeans. He took one look at her and his eyes went to her hair. He chuckled.
“What is it?” Ella asked in response.
“One moment," he said, heading to his room. He came back with a brush and some hairpins with pearls at the base.
“May I”? He asked. Ella flushed in embarrassment but nodded. Using his tentacles, he brushed through her curls and added a few braids in the front, leaving some of her curls out on each side to frame her face. He used the pins at the top of each braid to hold the braids in place, a trick he learned from his own father. His mother also hated doing her own hair.
“All done," he said. Ella looked in a nearby mirror and was shocked. She was in love with her own appearance.
“Oh my goodness," she said. She walked to Nerion and pulled him towards her, placing a kiss on his cheek. Nerion flushed, his light brown cheeks turning a bright red.
“From now on, let me take care of your hair,” he told her.
“Okay," Ella said. She knew if she denied him too much from being able to serve her, that he might fall depressed. After all, serving a female was the ultimate form of love from a beast mate. Before heading to the meeting, Nerion took her to his favorite breakfast spot that had wonderful croissants and sauces to try with them. He watched Ella try different ones, laughing at her facial expressions with many of the sauces.
