Can this happen?

Hira: Hola? Viola? (a moment of silence) Sanjay?!

Sanjay’s eyes widened in shock, hearing his name by Hira’s voice once more, was his only wish for 6 years but now when it came true it filled his heart with great fear, what if he answered? Will she hang up the phone? And if she didn’t, what will he say to her?!!!  

He gave Viola’s the phone instantly and she took it

Viola: Hira, do you hear me? I can’t hear you, there is no signal, hang up now and I will call you back

And she ended the call and swallowed nervously looking at Sanjay who was pressing his hand on his chest

Viola: Sanju (then she smiled nervously) you came early, welcome back

Sanjay frowned: since when are you talking with Hira?!!!!

Viola: Just an hour ago

Sanjay frowned: you know I am not talking about the duration of the call, since when you started talking with Hira?

Viola swallowed: the past 6 years

Sanjay frowned in disgust and shook his head in disbelief then walked out of the room angrily and Viola rushed behind him

Viola: Sanjay, I am so sorry, just listen to me and I will explain every....

Sanjay entered his room and slammed the door in her face, Viola flinched then frowned and knocked an angry knock on the door

Viola: YOU SHOULD LEARN TO LISTEN TO PEOPLE EVEN IF YOU ARE ANGRY, LEARN FROM YOUR MISTAKES, YOU MORON

Then she descended the stairs, frowning and looking around

Viola: where is that lazy Sonia, SONIA?

But then her eyes widened seeing Adarsh leaning on the entry of the house while holding his head

Viola: Papa?

He opened his eyes and looked at her with great pain on his face, she ran to him and put his arm over her shoulders, and Adarsh dragged his legs to the nearest chair

Viola: Papa should I call the ambulance?

Adarsh in low tone: No I will be fine, I took a pill, so calm down or Marie will hear you

And he sat and Viola sat on her knees in front of him, he smiled and put his hand on her cheek, and she kissed his hand’s palm and looked at him worried

Viola: Papa, I called you a lot but you didn’t answer

Adarsh touched his Jacket to feel his mobile phone then closed his eyes

Adarsh: I was so tired, I must have forgotten the mobile in the taxi, I am sorry

Viola: it’s your blood pressure, right? why is your blood pressure high again? We are doing everything Hira said, the diet, no one is upsetting you, and you were happy that Sanjay is coming so what could have happened that ... (then her eyes widened) unless (then she frowned) you Visited Eve?

Adarsh: I had to Viola, doctor Zena called me, I was worried, I thought something happened to her but turned out she wanted us to visit Eve and when I saw Eve, I found her so broken, so sad and... and she wasn’t the Eve of that day, she looked like the innocent child that cried in my arms when her mother left her except now it’s me who left her, Viola

Viola whispered angrily: I can’t believe you Papa, I put her in the mental hospital so she won’t be able to enter our lives again, not so you can go visit her whenever she wants to (then she said strictly) Papa, you will never see Eve again, okay?

Adarsh held his head closed his eyes and nodded; Viola held his wrist and he opened his eyes filled with tears

Viola: Papa, I know that this is hard on you, but don’t forget how manipulative Eve can be, this all maybe an act so we can get her out and even if it’s not an act, she deserves to stay locked up forever, for poisoning Hira (then she whispered) and for the other thing too

Adarsh’s eyes widened: Viola, don’t even mention this to yourself (then he said in low tone) you promised not to forget what you heard, remember?

Viola: Papa, I....

Adarsh’s eyes widened: you didn’t tell Sanjay anything did you?

Viola sighed: of course I didn’t Papa, although I think hiding this from Sanjay is not the right thing, he deserves to know, it’s his right and yours too, Papa

Sanjay: what is Adarsh asking you to hide from me, Viola?

Adarsh and Viola’s eyes widened noticing Sanjay at the end of the stairs and steps away from them

Adarsh smiled nervously: nothing, Sanjay, it just the money you are sending to us, we are not spending it, we are saving it for you, for your office but we didn’t want to tell you so you won’t be upset

Viola swallowed looked down and Sanjay looked at her then looked Adarsh

Sanjay: yes, ma already told me and I am upset that you don’t want me to help you

Adarsh smiled widely: don’t worry, son, we are fine, the money of my shares are more than enough; all what we needed is to see you, I missed you so much, come here

Adarsh got up and spread his arms to hug Sanjay but Sanjay stopped him with a signal of his hand

Sanjay: no need for that, I just came to talk to Viola

Adarsh’s smile vanished and got replaced with the shock and the pain of Sanjay’s words then put his arms back to his sides, forced a smile on his face, nodded faintly and sat back on his chair

Viola looked sadly at Adarsh then frowned at Sanjay and walked away, ascended the stairs, he rushed behind her and held her hand, she turned to him with a frown

Sanjay: Viola, I am sorry

Viola frowned: you don’t have to treat Papa this way, you know?

Sanjay: don’t mind that (then he took a deep breath) you are right, apparently I didn’t learn from mistakes, I should listen to you, I am sorry

Viola’s frown vanished and nodded: thank you, and I am sorry you found out this way, stupid Sonia should have brought me the tea not you (then she smiled) anyway I think you deserve an explanation, Sanjay: thank you

Viola smiled widely and signaled on her room and they ascended the stairs and entered the room and the moment they entered the room, Viola punched Sanjay in the back

Sanjay frowned: aww, why is that?

Viola frowned: first explain, why you went to Jagdev, Sanju?

Sanjay’s eyes widened: how did you ... (then he frowned) Nelly!!

Viola: yes, Nelly brought your bags and told me you went to the mansion to visit “you friend”!!So why were you visiting Jagdev, answer me

Sanjay sighed: to ask him about Hira, I know it sound desperate and pathetic considering how much Jagdev hates me but that is what happened and shockingly he answered me and most of the time he was friendly

Viola smiled faintly: did he ask about me?

Sanjay swallowed and Viola looked at him then nodded and sat on the bed, Sanjay sat beside her and hugged her shoulders

Sanjay: do you still love him Viola? Even after knowing what he wanted to do to you and that everything you lived with him or know about him is a lie!!

Viola: it wasn’t a lie Sanjay, everything I lived with Jagdev was true, he did protect me from myself when I needed to and when he talked to me, he talked to me from his heart and let his tears touch his cheek in front of my eyes (Then she said in low tone) and not only he didn’t hurt me Sanjay, I offered myself to Jagdev and wanted to sleep with him...

Sanjay covered his ears: I don’t want to hear this

Viola: but he refused, Sanjay

Sanjay frowned confused: so?

Viola: you don’t understand, he was fine with it at the beginning but when I told him I love him and that I never slept with anyone before because I was saving myself to the one I love, he couldn’t take advantage of me, I know it’s hard on you to hear this on your sister but I thought you should know what kind of a person Jagdev is

Sanjay nodded: maybe he is not a bad person, maybe he is somewhat decent but that doesn’t mean we should ignore that he tried to hurt you (then he frowned) Hira was in the same situation and in addition to it they blackmailed her and frightened her to hurt me and she didn’t try once but Jagdev...

Viola: don’t be harsh on him Sanjay, it’s not like I am an innocent and doesn’t deserve to get hurt

Sanjay’s eyes widened: of course you are, don’t ever say that again

Viola: Sanjay, you are very kind and sweet but I was a horrible and especially to you(then she sighed) you were sick with guilt and tortured for years in chains and all what I was thinking about was myself; I was thinking about how your sickness is ruining my life and for that I hurt you with my harsh words (then her eyes crowded with tears) then I don’t know what got into me when Papa slapped me, how I agreed Jude on breaking your legs and I was to use the Taser on Hira too

 (Sanjay looked at her sadly, as she covered her face)

Viola: I wish if you didn’t protect us from Papa and told him what we did Sanjay, maybe I would have not be so disgusted and ashamed of who I was

Sanjay: Viola, if it was just Jude who did this, I would have let Adarsh punish him, I wouldn’t care because he hated me and I hated him but you...

Viola looked at him and he smiled to her and said in low tone.

Sanjay: you didn’t hate me, you were angry at me, for changing and for wanting to kill myself, I was your best friend and I betrayed you with my depression, that is why I was apologizing to you always, Viola, not for the stupid things you blamed me for, for this and when I ran away your fear and tears and how you begged me to return, confirmed it (then he smiled) I am sorry for leaving you alone, Viola

Viola smiled and wiped her tears then hugged him and he hugged her as well

Viola: Hira will be so unlucky, if she didn’t take you back, you are the best

Sanjay smiled: did you tell her that?

Viola broke the hug: of course no, I want her to like me; I don’t mention you at all

Sanjay frowned: are you sure there is anything you can say will make me feel less angry on you because my anger just doubled after your last sentence

Viola: yes but please understand (then she sighed and looked down) after we all knew the reason of your depression and we moved from the mansion, Jude vanished and you went to London’s college, I felt so lonely and broken, you know I don’t like Eve so I had no one else, and additional to that Papa got sick, and that is when my mother called me and I told her that Papa is sick and his blood pressure is so high and we took him to the hospital, in the same day Hira called me asking about Papa, she was so worried on him

Sanjay shook his head: her kindness to Adarsh is the only thing she didn’t explain to me, and I am not able to understand

Viola: if it makes you feel better she doesn’t understand it either, anyway she called me every day asking about Papa and giving us medical advice, she helped us a lot by the way, then a subject opened a subject and we talked long, I started to know her and love her and get used to her being a part of my day, but when papa got out of the hospital, Hira said indirectly that she will stop calling me, I asked her to not end our friendship and that she became my best friend, she told me she is feeling the same but she can’t keep her friendship with me because I am your sister, part of your life and if she exists in mine, she will be existing in yours too, and you will be tortured hearing her name or knowing something about her and you won’t be able to forget her and move on, and she doesn’t want you to be hurt because of her anymore

Sanjay held his scarf, looked down sadly and Viola said in low tone

Viola: so I promised her I will keep her calls a secret from you or anyone who can tell you and I succeeded till today (then she smiled) now after you knew why I did this, are you feeling any better?

Sanjay shook his head and Viola looked at him surprised

Sanjay: I am not angry at you anymore but I feel so much worse knowing that Hira is still protecting me although the last thing I did was hurting her and that she still want me to forget her love although my only hope is that she didn’t forget my love, and that she might forgive me and give me a second chance (then he looked at Viola hopeful) can this happen, Viola?

Viola looked at him sadly and he shook his head and adjusted the scarf over his chest and smiled as his eyes crowded with tears

Sanjay: don’t feel sad for me, even if this can’t happen and I can’t get her love back, It’s okay, I was lucky enough to have it even if it was for minutes, many people live their whole life wishing for what she made me feel even if it was for minutes like I had it

Viola smiled sadly and kissed his cheek then gave him her mobile

Viola: I will make you some mint tea, and then we will catch up, don’t go anywhere

Sanjay looked at her phone confused but she winked to him and walked out of the room, he looked at the phone then opened the recent calls and read “Hira”, his finger stopped above the name and he felt so tempted to make the call and hear her voice again but then he didn’t, he just opened the messages and found a conversation between Hira and Viola 4 years ago, speaking about a TV show Viola watches and think Hira will enjoy, then they started talking about a strict teacher in Hira’s college that asked her to leave his class because she argued his medical opinion, then about a beautiful dress in an expensive shop that she wishes to wear in her graduation day and will have the upcoming years to save for it

Sanjay smiled faintly and felt his longing is slightly satisfied by having a glimpse in Hira’s life and imagining her feelings through her words, he scrolled down expecting more talk but suddenly he saw a Video from Hira and before he even play it, he felt his heart bounding fiercely inside his chest, hearing her voice and seeing her face even through the mobile screen is a dream, he pressed on the Video and saw Hira smiling widely looking at the camera

Hira: happy 30th birthday, Viola (then she kissed the camera and the Video ended)

He smiled widely and a tear fell on his cheek and played the Video over and over then sent it to his phone and continued looking in Viola’s phone for recent messages and pictures for Hira, but before he find anything, he was shocked by a notification of a message from Nelly saying

“You are invited on my and Sanjay’s wedding tomorrow at 10 am

 The wedding will be in the Grand Garden of our mansion

Dress well and don’t bring any children with you “

Sanjay: WHAT?

Then he took Viola’s phone and dialed Nelly’s number

Nelly: call me Later Viola, I am busy

Sanjay frowned: IT’S ME, can you explain the message you just sent to Viola?

Nelly: of course Viola don’t need an invitation, but I sent it to all my contacts in the phone

Sanjay’s eyes widened: INVITATION FOR WHAT, WE ARE NOT GOING TO GET MARRIED, WHO GIVES YOU THE RIGHT TO INVITE PEOPLE ON A WEDDING I DON’T WANT OR ASKED FOR?

Nelly: Papa did, now stop screaming at me and come meet him; you will understand everything, bye

Sanjay: NELLY, DON’T HANG UP, NELLY (then he looked at the phone) you...

And he dialed the number again then screamed in frustration and threw the phone on the bed, and got out of the room like a storm, descended the stairs running as Viola was ascending with the tea and seeing him shivering in anger, she left the tray

Viola: what happened?

Sanjay angrily: NELLY SENT AN INVITATION FOR MY WEDDING ON HER TOMORROW

Viola: WHAT?

Sanjay frowned: where is your car’s keys?

Viola: in my room, but I will drive, I won’t let you drive that angry

And she ascended the stairs, Sanjay looked at her and descended the stairs and walked towards Marie who was sitting in the Garden with Sonia

Marie in low tone: ..So Nelly will wear a mermaid white wedding dress with no veil (then she smiled) and I will wear a white puffy dress with a tiara that will shine in the...

Sonia’s eyes widened: no!! You can’t wear a white wedding dress like the bride!!

Marie smiled widely: why do you think this will upset her? (Then her eyes widened) change the subject, Sanjay is coming

Sanjay frowned: Ma?

Marie smiled: yes honey (then her eyes widened) what is wrong, my prince, why are you frowning?

Sanjay: Nelly is inviting people for my wedding on her tomorrow; now tell me do you have a hand in this?

Marie’s eyes widened: what? No, I had no idea, how could she do something like that?

And she looked at Sonia who was looking at her shocked

Marie: do you believe this, Sonia?

Sonia frowned: I don’t, I really don’t

Sanjay closed his eyes then kissed Marie’s head

Sanjay: sorry, that I doubted you

Marie rubbed his hand: never mind

Sanjay: tell Viola I am waiting for her beside the car

Marie and Sonia nodded as Sanjay walked away then Sonia frowned to Marie

Sonia: I can’t believe he had no Idea his wedding is tomorrow?!!!! (Then she frowned) and of course you have a hand in this

Marie smirked: of course, I planned the whole wedding with Nelly and Anthony 10 minutes ago (then she raised her head) don’t look at me like that, I know the best for my boy

2 hours later

In Anthony’s Mansion

Sanjay looked shocked at the tray the maid put in front of him with a ring box, as Viola sighed in frustration

Anthony frowned: you may leave now

The maid left and Sanjay looked at Nelly who was crying and leaning her head on Anthony’s arm

Anthony: what are you saying, Sanjay? You don’t want to marry my daughter!! Is that what are you saying?

Sanjay: Mr. Anthony, I had no idea this wedding is taking place but minutes before coming to you, I didn’t ask Nelly to marry me

Anthony frowned: we invited to the wedding all the people we know, big names in business, celebrities and the press (then he frowned more) and we bought the damn rings

Viola frowned: exactly, you did all this; Sanjay didn’t do anything of this

Anthony: yes but his mother did, Marie agreed it’s time for your marriage and we planned to surprise you with this wedding

Sanjay’s eyes widened: my mother is a part of this?!!

Viola sighed: of course she is

Sanjay: Mr. Anthony, I am sorry for my mother agreement with you but I was honest with Nelly from the beginning (then he looked at Nelly) wasn’t I Nelly? Did I once told you that I want to marry you or even be in any relation with you?

Nelly sobbed: Daddy

Anthony: don’t think I am praying to give you my daughter, Sanjay; you are not good enough for my Nelly, your family is poor, you are living in a small house and even your father sold his shares in my company and he is no longer a business man

Viola frowned: you made him sell it and for just 10 percent of their worth, it was so unfair

Anthony: that is the contract dear, your father name became tented after he stole the cheque, you should thank god that I paid him 10 percent of the shares and didn’t just took over his shares and threw him out

Sanjay strictly: when you speak about Adarsh Singh Khatri, speak politely, Mr. Anthony

Anthony: I was so sad to hear that your father became so needy that you had to work two jobs to pay for your education and his bills

Sanjay looked at Nelly with a frown and Nelly looked down awkwardly

Sanjay: if we are so “needy” like you called us and I am not good enough for your daughter why you want this marriage?

Anthony: I am forced, because my daughter love you and I can’t say no to her and sadden her (then he looked at Nelly) from all the people, why him Nelly? He has nothing to make him worth of you

Nelly: Sanjay is the most handsome boy I ever met Papa, my friends and even girls in his college envied me on him for being his girlfriend, beside he is for 11 years studied everything and became so educated and smart, he can be a big name in the country and I will be the wife of this big name and girls will also Envy me for this, Papa you promised to give me what girls will Envy me on, so give me Sanjay

Sanjay looked at Viola who was as him tongue tied, there was no words to describe how provoked they were in the moment  

Anthony smiled: fine, jellybeans (then he looked strictly at Sanjay) I will establish for you a law firm and I will give your father a respectable job and rent for him another mansion, as for you and Nelly, you will live with me, like Helen and her husband

Viola’s eye widened: Helen got married?

Sanjay: what about Mia, is she okay with this?

Nelly wiped her tears: who’s Mia?

Sanjay frowned: Jude’s and Helen’s daughter, your niece and mine

Nelly: yeah, forget about her now, what do you think about daddy’s offer?

Sanjay frowned: what is wrong with you People, why do you think you can buy me with money?

Anthony stood with a frown and Sanjay stood with him, Anthony raised his index finger angrily

Anthony: Listen carefully, Singh Khatri, my daughter waited for you 11 years then you kept her another 6 years beside you in London, till you take the law degree; those are 17 years of my daughter’s life, if you think you will keep my daughter all this years waiting for you then break her heart and leave, you are wrong!!! I can destroy you and destroy everything you love

Sanjay frowned deeper looking at Anthony and Anthony kept looking at him with the same threatening look

Nelly: daddy, can I speak with Sanjay in private? Please

Anthony: fine, honey; I will go take a short walk in the Garden

And he kissed her head then frowned to Sanjay and walked away, Nelly looked at Viola with raised eyebrow

Viola: I am not going anywhere; I am not leaving my brother with you

Sanjay: Viola, go have a walk in the Garden

Viola frowned: fine

Then she frowned to Nelly and Nelly frowned to her back till she walked out and the moment she walked out, Nelly hugged Sanjay

Nelly: honey, I am sorry we had to do it like this (then she broke the hug) but I love you and you don’t want to marry me, what was I supposed to do?

Sanjay tilted his head back in frustration then looked at Nelly and nodded

Sanjay: fine Nelly, I will speak with directly and what I am going to tell you will hurt you but I guess you left me no choice (then he sighed ) Nelly, I am in love with Hira, I don’t love you at all, I am sorry

Nelly smiled: okay, I knew that but I don’t care, you will forget her and will love me, and I will make you happy, I know

Sanjay’s eyes widened: Nelly, what are you saying? I don’t love you, I will never be happy with you

Nelly: okay Sanjay, if I can’t make you happy and only Hira can make you happy, then you can’t be happy because Hira is not there and she doesn’t love you; so if you can’t be happy, make me happy and make your mother and your family happy and just marry me

Sanjay looked at her shocked then looked at Viola who was hiding by the door and as shocked

At night

In the Singh Khatri’s house

The reception room

Sanjay held his head: I can’t believe you, ma; how could you do this to me (then he frowned) why are you treating me as something you own, I am your son

Marie frowned: do you think I want their money? (Then she looked around ) do you think I need all this? I lived with my two brothers in a room of straw and red blocks and I am ready to live in it again happily if that what your father can provide (Then she said strictly) I want you to marry Nelly because she loves you and will make you forget Hira

Sanjay: Hira?!!

And he looked at Viola who shook her head in disbelief

Marie: don’t you think I don’t know that you are thinking about her, I knew when you wished that she is there to see the dog, I hate Nelly but I hate Hira more (then she whispered) she came here to hurt our family for god’s sake, Adarsh say something

Viola and Sanjay looked at Adarsh who was sitting on his desk in a corner and holding a phone’s speaker and seemed shocked and not even hearing them

Marie: Nelly loves you and in addition to that she wants to bring the world in your hands (then she said strictly) Sanjay, if you didn’t marry Nelly tomorrow, forget you have a mother

Sanjay: what?!!!

Marie: you heard me, Sanjay

Then she went to her room and Sanjay held his head and sat on the nearest chair, Viola looked at him sadly then sat beside him

Viola whispered: it can happen, Sanjay

Sanjay looked at her confused: what?

Viola: this is the answer to your question, you asked “ Can this happen?” and I am saying yes, I think Hira is still in love with you

Sanjay’s eyes widened and Viola nodded to him

Viola: that is why I will give you, your birthday gift early, don’t worry it’s not a funny hat (then she smiled) open your nightstand drawer, you will find Hira’s address and a ticket to Madrid, Spain I spend on it all my savings, it’s for tomorrow but you can call the flight company and exchange it with one for the nearest flight, I made the call for you, it will only cost us an additional 200 dollars, so run dude run

Sanjay’s eyes widened: Viola, are you serious?

Viola’s eyes widened: don’t waste time, the nearest flight is in 4 hours, go to Hira and get her back, it’s your last change

Sanjay looked at her then smiled widely and kissed her cheek, she chuckled

Sanjay: I am going to see Hira, I can’t believe it

Viola: believe it, now go and don’t let Marie feel you

Sanjay ran as fast as he can and ascended the stairs running and Viola smiled then went to Adarsh, but seeing his face, her smile vanished

Viola: Papa what happened?

Adarsh looked at her with wide terrified eyes and swallowed while holding the speaker of the phone

Viola: I came to tell you that Sanjay will fly to Spain in hours

Adarsh’s eyes widened: good, go with him

(Then he opened the drawer and gave her a pile of money)

Adarsh: here take all the money Sanjay saved and buy a ticket, he will understand, just go from here

Viola: why Papa? What is going on, you are scaring me

Adarsh swallowed: I didn’t forget the mobile in the taxi...they found my mobile in Eve’s room, she ran away and I think the first thing she will do is....to ... to kill you
