Chapter 1: School is a Cage
School is a drag everyone knows that and as the years go by the expectations increase. My name is Rose Mary and as a senior in high school, the expectations are almost overwhelming. School now seems like a suffocating cage no way to get out unless you complete a ridiculous amount of work and are subjected to public speaking, one of society’s most common fears. I am currently in that cage.
“Ok class I will assign you a partner for an upcoming project,” said Mrs. Morgan. You can hear the groans from the students, filling the silence.
“Mrs. Morgan, what is the project about?” a student asking timidly because she scares the living daylights out of us.
“It is almost the end of the first semester and I see the same people together, I want you to get to know someone you wouldn't usually talk to. So the project is…” The suspense was killing, “First, individually you will find an excerpt that means a lot to you. Then, you will spend time with your partner outside of school and it is their job to figure out why that it is important to you. After, you and your partner will present it to the class. Most importantly, I will be asking for proof that you both actually spend time so you are to create a chart of the days you did and you will be turning it into me on the day you present before you go up. When you are done with your presentation I will individually ask what you did on those days on the chart.” She has to be kidding me I cannot share my deepest thoughts with a stranger.
She started calling out the partners, then my name was called “Rose Mary is with Wesley
Blackwell.” How can she do this to me? Let me explain, I hate Wesley Blackwell he is the most ignorant, disagreeable person I have ever met. Just today I saw him brutally shove a freshman for just being “in his way”. He what you call a bad boy, the guy that doesn’t care about anything, the guy you think that after he leaves high school will probably end up in jail. Gosh, I wish I can ignore him like he doesn’t exist but this damn project is 50% of my grade, I can’t have my first-semester grade be bad. I guess I have to deal with him for the duration of this project.
Me Rose Mary, a good girl, is paired up with Wesley Blackwell, the school’s bad boy.
