Chapter 1
Chapter 1
Previously, three years
It was a lovely morning when Laura awoke to the sound of her father being hounded by the warriors who had been protecting the borders the night before; it was their responsibility to brief the alpha each day on the goings-on in the pack. She got out of bed and prepared to go visit her father like she did every morning before beginning her day, but when she arrived at the office where he works, she saw that thousands of people were already waiting outside.
In other words, what's happening? Is there a holiday that she has overlooked?" She reflected, and then, when she was startled out of her reverie, she questioned.
She turned to a warrior she'd developed feelings for and asked, "What's going on here?"
His answer was bitter: "It's your father."
She finally had to ask, "Where is he?"
apologetically declaring, "He is gone, princess Laura."
She asked, puzzled, "Gone where?" because yesterday she had said goodnight to her father, and he had not mentioned leaving.
This morning, we discovered his body.
Upon hearing that it was her father, Laura was stunned to learn that he had passed away. But last night, after they had dinner together and went to bed, he wasn't sick and seemed well.
She walks up to Cora and asks, "Is this a joke?" Her best friend since they were kids is the daughter of the Silver Pack's beta.
The words "I'm sorry, Laura" bring up a flood of tears and an even more startled reaction from Laura.
She shouted out, "Father," and made her way to the room, only to be thwarted by the dead Alpha guards.
"You're not allowed in here," one of the guards told the woman.
She cried, tears now streaming down her cheeks: "If this is a joke, you all should better stop it now; I want to see my father."
It's still hard for her to accept that her dad is gone. She tries to escape the guards, but they are too strong, and just then Lorenzo, the pack's beta, comes somberly out of the room where the Alpha was found dead.
When she asked, "How is my father?" he looked at her pityingly and nodded his head.
She threw herself to the floor with a resounding "no" and a cry of "Daddy!"
Her cries of "You can't die, Father" were completely fruitless.
The best Alpha they've ever had is no longer with them.
After three years of
Laura is still grieving the loss of her father, but she recognizes that she must move on for the good of the kingdom because she is the only heir. Since Laura was the first female alpha of the Silver Pack, many of her pack mates were naturally hostile to her.
Her personal maid bowed to her as she woke up and said, "Good morning, my lady." She sat up in bed and stretched out her petite frame, looking exhausted.
She smiled and said, "Good morning, Anna," indicating that she was in a very good mood today.
She then informs you that your bath is complete and that the beta is waiting for you in the chamber so that you can finish meeting with the blood pack.
"It's a pleasant surprise," she says.
Laura wondered why her father's beta insisted she see the blood packs despite the trouble they were in right now. She had only heard that the Alpha used to be all those things to his ex-wife—hot, kind, good, and even submissive—before he caught her cheating.
She took a shower and put on a royal dress she despises but feels obligated to wear for the sake of her father.
In the chamberlain's office, she greeted Lorenzo with a "Good morning, Lorenzo" as she sat on her father's throne.
He answered, "Good morning, Alpha Laura," despite the fact that she is much younger than he is. He had to give his Alpha, the pack leader, the respect he deserved.
She attempts to remember the Alpha's name and begins, "So, about the Alpha...."
Lorenzo was a great help, and she acknowledged it.
With the current state of affairs in his pack, she agreed with Vincent, saying, "Yeah, Alpha."
"If we don't have him to lead us to freedom in the next pack war, we're all doomed," Lorenzo argued.
When asked why she didn't want to go against the Alpha king's wishes now that her father was dead, Laura gently said, "Because my father had always warned me about that pack."
He interrogates, "Are you saying we should not do the right thing?"
Lorenzo, the beta, looks agitated and interrupts Laura as she continues, "The right thing is we stay away from those dangerous packs, and I don't want our warriors..."
"I'm sorry to have to tell you this, but the entire royal family of the Silver Packs has come to the conclusion that you are not fit to be the Alpha if you are unable to convince Alpha Vincent's to give out his warriors during the coming war," he stressed.
She said, "What are you talking about?" knowing full well that this day would come, but never expecting it to arrive so soon.
No, Lorenzo said, the deal is final, and there's nothing more he can do about it.
She's about to go into an argument, starting with "But."
He said, "If there is nothing else to say, then I must take my leave," and he got up and went before Laura could even respond.
She believes that the Blood Pack is trying to remove her from power simply because she is a woman and that they would not be trying so hard if they realized how magnificent she really is.
She got off her father's throne and walked out of the room. She knew she had to do something to preserve his legacy. "Laura," she heard, turning around.
When she looked behind her, she realized that it was simply Axel, the warrior she had a crush on and was seeing at the time because she hadn't yet found her mate. "Are you alright?" he asked her, clearly concerned.
You can rest assured that I will be alright; I just don't know how to please everyone here.
He wrapped his arms around her and said, "They'll come around; they haven't seen a female Alpha yet."
She looks up into his face and asks, "Do you believe I can do it?"
You are a strong woman; I have faith in you.
She knelt and kissed him, and he quickly reacted, "Thank you, Axel; I really need those words of encouragement right now."
Axel said, "I am needed at the border," so he had to leave.
Have a good night, and I'll see you in my room later.
"Well, don't give it too much thought, sweetheart," he said as he left.
Cora, an onlooker, is seething with rage because she sees her sister, Laura, getting everything she's ever desired, including the man she's always wanted to marry. She wanted to smack her in the face, but she didn't want to hurt her Alpha, so she took a big breath and forced herself to smile and say, "There you are; I was told you finished your meeting."
Laura was overjoyed to meet her best friend, but she was unable to embrace her because of the dress she was trying to put on.
Even though it's early in the day, Cora noticed that you looked tense.
It's exhausting being the alpha, but my dad tried his best.
"Have you had breakfast?" he asked.
As they discussed meals, her stomach rumbled: "I've never even smelled food, let alone had one." "See, even my stomach agrees with me," she said.
Cora pushed her toward the kitchen and said, "We better get you fed up."
The head housekeeper called them "Alpha Laura, beta Cora."
"Make us some breakfast, will you?" Cora asked.
She quickly said, "Right away," and left.
Laura remarked, "You know, you could have said it more nicely."
Being kind to them will earn you no respect from them.
Assuring her that "they are still humans like us," she said
Cora spat out the final syllable of her question as their dinner was brought in, and Laura began eating hastily because she didn't have much time before duty called.
She gushed, "He's been a great boyfriend, very understanding and supportive."
Cora cautioned her companion, "Just be careful; he might be with you just because of your title."
You can count on him; he's not that kind of guy.
"If you say so," she smiled shyly.
The name "Alpha" was yelled out to her.
Laura got up, drank some water, and said, "Sorry, duty calls." Cora nodded, and Laura headed in the direction she had heard her name called.
NEW RATIONALE: ENVY
As usual, at the end of the day, Laura was exhausted from sifting through paperwork and reviewing it, as well as not having time for lunch other than the coffee brought in by her maid. She went to bed, but not before leaving her door open in case Axel showed up. She was exhausted, but she wanted to give Axel a chance, as she plans to pick him as her mate once things settle down.
