Episode1
Chapter 1 The Contract Ariana Cole had never imagined her life would come down to a single signature. The document lay on the glass table in front of her—neat, expensive, and terrifying. Her fingers trembled as she stared at the bold words printed at the top. MARRIAGE AGREEMENT “Read it carefully,” the lawyer said, adjusting his glasses. His voice was calm, almost bored, like this wasn’t a decision that could destroy or save a life. Ariana swallowed hard. Two million dollars. That was the amount written on the last page. Two million dollars to save her mother’s life. To clear the hospital bills. To stop the endless calls from debt collectors. And all she had to do… was marry a stranger. She slowly raised her eyes. The man sitting across from her hadn’t spoken a single word since she arrived. He wore a black suit that probably cost more than her entire wardrobe. His posture was straight, confident, untouchable. Lucas Blackwood. The name alone carried power. CEO of Blackwood Group. Billionaire. Cold. Untouchable. His sharp eyes finally met hers. “There are rules,” he said, his voice deep and emotionless. “This is not a real marriage.” Ariana’s heart skipped. “No love. No expectations,” he continued. “You will live in my house, act like my wife in public, and stay out of my personal life.” She clenched her hands under the table. “And after one year?” she asked softly. “The marriage ends,” Lucas replied without hesitation. “You leave with the money.” One year. Twelve months of pretending to be married to a man who looked at her like she was a business deal. Ariana lowered her gaze again. This wasn’t how she dreamed her life would be. She wanted to graduate. To work. To build something honest. But dreams didn’t pay hospital bills. “Why me?” she finally asked. Lucas leaned back slightly, his eyes unreadable. “You’re clean,” he said. “No scandals. No background problems. And you need money.” The truth stung. She took a deep breath. The lawyer pushed a pen toward her. “If you agree, sign here.” For a moment, time stood still. Ariana thought of her mother lying weak in the hospital bed. Of the doctors shaking their heads. Of the bills piling up. She picked up the pen. Lucas watched her closely now. “One more thing,” he added. “Do not fall in love with me.” A bitter smile touched her lips. “That won’t be a problem,” she said quietly. With a shaking hand, Ariana signed her name. The pen left the paper. And just like that, her life changed forever. Lucas stood up. “My driver will take you home. Pack your things. You move in tonight.” “Tonight?” Ariana repeated, shocked. “Yes,” he said coldly. “You’re my wife now.” As he walked away, Ariana stared at the signed contract. She had sold one year of her life. She just didn’t know yet… that this fake marriage would become the most dangerous thing she had ever done. Chapter 2 Moving into the Billionaire’s Mansion The car ride was silent. Ariana sat stiffly in the back seat, her hands clasped tightly on her lap as the city lights blurred past the tinted window. Everything felt unreal—like she was trapped in a dream she couldn’t wake up from. Just a few hours ago, she was an ordinary girl worrying about hospital bills. Now, she was a billionaire’s wife. The car finally slowed down and passed through tall black gates. Ariana’s breath caught as she stared outside. The mansion was massive. Bright lights illuminated the long driveway, fountains spraying gently on both sides. The building itself looked like something out of a movie—tall glass windows, white walls, and a sense of cold luxury that made her feel small. The car stopped. The driver stepped out and opened her door politely. “Welcome home, Madam.” Madam. The word felt strange on her ears. Ariana stepped out slowly, her heart pounding as she adjusted the small bag on her shoulder. This was all she had brought with her—everything else from her old life suddenly felt far away. The front door opened before she could take another step. Lucas Blackwood stood there. He had removed his suit jacket, but his presence was just as intimidating. His sleeves were rolled up slightly, revealing strong forearms, and his sharp eyes flicked briefly to the bag in her hand. “That’s all you brought?” he asked. “Yes,” Ariana replied quietly. “Good,” he said. “You won’t need much.” He turned and walked inside without waiting for her. Ariana hesitated, then followed. The interior of the mansion was just as overwhelming. Marble floors. High ceilings. Everything looked perfect—too perfect. There was no warmth, no personal touch. It felt more like a hotel than a home. A middle-aged woman approached them with a gentle smile. “Welcome, Madam. I’m Mrs. Chen, the housekeeper.” “Thank you,” Ariana said softly, offering a small smile back. Lucas spoke immediately. “Prepare the guest room.” Ariana’s steps faltered. Guest room? She looked at him, confused, but Lucas didn’t meet her eyes. “We’ll sleep separately,” he said coldly. “This is a contract marriage. Don’t forget that.” Her chest tightened, though she wasn’t sure why. “Understood,” she replied. Mrs. Chen led Ariana upstairs to a large, beautifully furnished room. The bed looked untouched, the curtains drawn neatly, and fresh flowers sat on the table by the window. “This will be your room,” Mrs. Chen said kindly. “If you need anything, just ask.” “Thank you,” Ariana said. Once the door closed, Ariana sank onto the edge of the bed. The silence wrapped around her like a heavy blanket. She pulled the folded contract from her bag and stared at it again. One year. Just one year. She could do this. After freshening up, Ariana went downstairs, unsure of what she was supposed to do next. She found Lucas in the dining area, already seated at the long table, his attention fixed on his phone. Dinner was served quietly. They ate in silence, the sound of cutlery echoing in the large room. Finally, Ariana gathered her courage. “Is there anything you want me to do?” she asked. Lucas looked up slowly. “Yes,” he said. “Remember your role.” Her fingers tightened around her fork. “In public, you’re my wife. You’ll dress properly, speak carefully, and never embarrass me.” “And in private?” she asked. “In private,” he said flatly, “we’re strangers.” The words hit harder than she expected. He stood up, clearly done with the conversation. “Tomorrow, you’ll attend a charity event with me,” he added. “The press will be there.” Ariana’s eyes widened. “Tomorrow?” “Yes,” Lucas said, already walking away. “Get some rest. You’ll need it.” She watched his retreating figure, her heart racing. A charity event. Cameras. Reporters. She wasn’t ready for this world. As Ariana returned to her room that night, she stood by the window, staring at the city lights below. She had entered a golden cage. And she had no idea how she would survive inside it.
