Maxine “Good morning,” my mom said, wrapped in her maroon robe, sipping coffee from her matching mug. “Good morning, Doctor Holmes,” I said, spreading flavored cream on my toast. “Are you okay? You never told me how your day went at Maple Kingdom on Saturday,” she said. “Uhhhh, it wasn’t as fun as I expected. I just have a lot of stuff on my mind,” I said. “Really? What is it? Tell me about it.” “Nothing, just college anxiety. My school is planning a New York trip where students can visit the Ivy League schools nearby. The principal is trying to get more students to apply,” I lied, because I couldn't exactly say I was depressed about ruining our neighbors' lives. “New York? That’s a different country. Isn’t that going to be f*****g expensive? Why not visit universities here anyway?”
