Prologue:
I work as a freelancer. My luck was never been bad, but this time, I was not called back by the companies I had applied.
I sigh as I walk towards a vacant table inside a cafe. I sip on my coffee after a long sigh.
*Poke, poke.*
I feel a little finger has poke me in my left leg. I look down only to see a little girl grinning at me.
"Yeyy! Mommy, you're here! You're now not stuck in Disney land!" She said loudly that some people turned their head to look curiously.
"I..I..." I was flabbergasted. I'm shocked and also confused. Where did this cute little baby girl came from anyway? She just spawned?
"Mommy! Why did you took so long to go home? Is Disney land really from another planet?" She ask, aggrieve and pouting her lips, and almost innocently.
"W-what? No!" I was lost for word. What should I say for this young lady? Wait— who the freak even told her that Disney Land is from another planet? And why is her mom even stuck at Disney land? Oh boy...
"Mommy, I haven't saw you since I was a baby, but, I saw your picture one time. You're so very pretty, mommy."
Should I say thank you? But her words... as if, trying to please me just to not leave. Some people minded their own business, and some now look at me as if I did something horrible. I wanted to tell them I'm not the mom, but I'm so kind-hearted today and I don't want to dishearten the kid without her parents around, I would spill the truth— that I'm not her mother— after her parents are around, so that her parents can deal with her when she cries.
"Why did you run off?" A handsome tall man, with laid back hair in a turtle neck, long sleeve top and slacks, with belt and a black shoes enters the cafe, with a deep baritone voice, he strode towards us.
"I-is that your dad?" I gulped down my own saliva and asked the little girl in front of me, who didn't even look back.
"Yes, mommy. Were you stuck at Disney land for so long that you forgot about daddy? What about me, mommy? Did you also forget about me?"
"I..uh..." Wow, I'm still very speechless.
"Daddy! Mommy's here!" She pointed at me when the dad was right in front of us. I shook my head to deny it, as if the father wouldn't know. He glanced at me and looked at me up and down. My ego was immediately hurt. Why? Am I hideous?
"Baby, she's not your—"
"Mommy, mommy, mommy! Did you know? I wanted to tell you a bi~g story! I prepared it for you, mommy!"
I wiped my sweat on my forehead. My plan was to break it into her, that I'm not her mom, but the muscles in my mouth wouldn't even move. Suddenly, I hesitated, just for the sake of not wanting her to cry.
"Baby, you got the wrong perso—" The man tried to talk to her, but he was cut off.
"Daddy, Why aren't you greeting mommy? She's back! Why are you not kissing mommy in the cheeks?"
"Oh, no need, no need." Please, do it!
"Baby, it's getting late, and we have to go home."
Suddenly, the little girl went into a little dragon mode. She then wrapped her arms around my leg.
"Okay." Then she went to grab his father's hand and then suddenly, mine too. Her father and I froze.
The man pulled the girl, when she saw me still sitting and her getting dragged out, she started crying. The man paused, then let go of her hand and kneeled in front of her, but then she rans towards me and wrapped her arms around my knees.
"I want my mommy! I will go with my mommy! I want to be with my mommy!"
"I'm not..." She look up, her eyes were moist and ready to cry out loud. I gulped down my own words. "I-I will go with you. Don't cry." I pat her in her head.
"You're making this complicated." The man suddenly spoke up. I look up and glared at him. What can I do? I'm too soft-hearted with children. He should have look at her more carefully! Yes, that's right, this is his fault for letting the girl out of his sight! Now, I'm trapped!
He closed his mouth again after I glared at him. I am blaming him for everything. That's right, I am.
***
For some reason, I'm here at the little girl's room. Tonight, I'm sleeping here.
Gosh, I'm trapped. Yes, I am trapped. We couldn't even stop her as she pulled me towards their car. I feel like I got kidnapped by a sweet little girl. I look outside the car window as the car is moving, a single tear on my eyes, looking at the people in the pedestrian, my brain silently screaming for help. But then, I have my faults too. I was not able to break it out to the girl, to break her heart, and smashed her hope. I let her take me.
"What's your name?" The 'father' suddenly spoke. We're in the back seat, with the little girl between us.
"Maple Leaf Clarke." I said.
"Hmm, what an odd name." He said. I turned my head immediately to glare at him. Odd? My name is unique! My mother said so! Like, who in the world will name their kids with Leaf? None! Suddenly, I wanted to cry at that. But still, I'm still thankful my mother named me Leaf than Fig and branch, or worse, Tree! Well, Tree is unique, but, yeah. No way.
'Thank you, mother, for not naming me Grass.' I said internally.
"Mommy, Daddy named me Leilani. Daddy said it meant, Heavenly Flower." She said. I nodded my head. I quickly went to look at it in my phone.
Ah~ so it's an Hawaiian word. I see.
"Such a cute name, deserving for a flower like you." I complimented her. Her face shot up brightly. I suddenly became in daze. She'll be more beautiful when she gets older. Poor dad, he'll get heartbroken once she got married.
Back to reality....
I hummed her a song as I pat her back to sleep. I yawned as I continued humming. I closed my eyes to rest it, when I opened my eyes again, it's already 6 a.m.
I sat up, look at the little girl besides me, and then carefully got up from the bed.
I opened the door carefully and slowly closed it, not to make a noise. I navigated through the hallway, almost lost my way, but finally saw the stairway. I run towards it but then bumped into a muscular chest.
The person who I bumped into, hugged my body to support me, and in order not to fall down. I look up, and saw the 'father' of the child. I felt like my body got burned, so, I pushed him away.
"I-I'm leaving..." I quickly strides towards the stairs. As I walk down the stairs, I noticed the guy following me. I look back every now and then, looking at him as if he's a stalker. I just wandered why he keeps following me.
As if reading my thoughts, he said "I'm just going down to the kitchen."
As if I got hit on the head, I look down in embarrassment. Oh well, a hot guy following me down the stairs, as if not wanting me to leave, is a every girls dream. But, no to stalking though.
At the leaving room, he was about to speak up about something when a cry suddenly erupted from the second floor. A girl suddenly ran down the stairs, wailing, I almost shouted at the horror, thinking she might fall down. The guy also became stiff but walk towards the stairs to pick up the girl, but she only pushed him aside and runs towards me. She then went into an octopus mode, wrapping her arms and legs around my legs and feet.
"Waaah! Mommy, don't leave me again." She cried heartbreakingly. I look at the man, seeking for help.
The man sighed, then told me:
"I wanna talk to you in private."

"Her school is about to have a family event, but her mom refused to come and show up. Looking at her so very fond and clingy towards you. I wanted to hire you to pretend to be her mother, for 2 million."
"I'm in!"
for 2 million....
