Jane and I had stayed after school so I could finish getting things together. Mason came and found me in my office after practice.
" Mal does dad know your here?" Questioned Mason
"He doesn't even know I'm the principal, that's part of the reason why I got my last name changed. I knew it was going to be hard on you with dad being the coach and me being the Principal. I didn't need that type of attention drawn towards either of us so I changed my last name." I explained to mason.
"Boy is he in for a suprise, he wants to talk to me tonight. I figured we'd go over there together, since you already have to talk to him." Mason explains.
"We can do that, I just have to finish a few things here then we can head over there." I reassured Mason.
Once I finished my work I gather my things, went to find Mason, dropped Jane off at home, and then we went to talk to our father.
For all my father knows I'm still out of town, doing whatever I please. Far away free from him.
We pull up to my mother and fathers house.
I sit in my car anxiously thinking.. I had a few thing to say myself, that I didn't know how to say. Also of all of the outcomes and possible ways this conversation could go wrong.
I wasn't always the perfect child. Nor did I care to be, I wasn't really your typical gal .. not at first anyways. I was always into "different" things. Boxing, survival, and guns. I Didn't care what my parents had to say or thought about what I did. My father and I constantly argued about maintaining an "image" of "The Perfect Family", Something the Maxwells could never be, My father swore that I was a "Trouble child" and I would be a bad influence on his sons.
He threatened me multiple times to change my ways or his would ship me off out of country to my wretched aunt. So I became your friendly girl next door, so I could stay with my brothers. They needed me more then anyone, Especially Mason.
I've always thought he was harder on Mason then Chase. I took Mason under my wing and he was like a son too me, I made a promise to Mason that I would never let our father treat him like he did me.
I broke the promise now I have to fix it.
I gather myself and get out of the car, mason met me at my car door opening it for me.
"Its okay we're going to get through this together." Mason reassured me smiling.
I smiled back at him and got out of the car.
We walk up to the door, Mason pulls out his keys and unlocks the door. We walk in .
"We're home!" Exclaims Mason.
Home.
My mind wonders over the word. This was never my "home" I was sure of that, but I did miss the smell and the atmosphere. My mom always kept up with the hous. It hasnt changed at all, it always smells like cinnamon apples.
"We're?" Questions my mom as she walks around the corner.
Her face tenses up at first, then she looks at me with relief.
"Mallory!" She cries "Is that really you?"
She grabs me and gives me a hug.
"Hey mom, how ya been ?" I ask.
"Im doing great even better now that your home."shes chants
My mom and I didnt have the best relationship but it was better then mine and my fathers.
"Not exactly Mom, Im here to talk to you and Dad." I inform her.
She looked as if she wanted no parts in the conversation.
"Well he's in the den, you can talk in there." She informs us pointing down the hall.
My mother never really cared for my father or really anyone's antics. She tends to stay to herself, that's where I get it from.
We walk down the hall past my old bedroom, that I see they've turned into another office. As if my father doesn't have enough space already.
To the den through the cherry wood doors sits an older man with a blonde comb over and pale skin, at a cherry wood desk. Smoking his tobacco pipe. My father. He lifts his head to look at the stranger in his door way.
"Mal?" He questions sitting back in his chair.
"Its been a while. How are you?" He says trying to keep normal conversation.
"Im fine, Im here to talk to you about Mason." I said . I was never really one to beat around the bush.
"What about Mason ?" He said
"I want him to move in with me, and Nathan." I begin
"But before you say no, Ive changed a lot I have a good paying job. Ive finished scho--"
"You think that I'm going to let my star football player prance around with a troubled child, so he can end up like you." He snapped interrupting me.
I knew this is how the conversation was going to go. He's never had trust in me, he never will. He hates the Actual fact.. I'm just like him.
"Well you don't really have a choice Dad." Mason cuts in.
"Im moving in with them whether you want me to or not, my sister needs my help. We made a promise to eachother, shes keeping her end up. Im keeping my end up too." Mason Finished.
A look of shock rolls across my fathers face, then a look of dissaproval. Then theirs finally no emotion on his face. He sits up in his chair and begins to speak.
"Well if thats what you want to do Mason, Im not stopping you." He sighs waving us off.
I had something else to say , but didn't know how to say it, or even if I should now but there is a part of me, a darker side. That just wants to see my father suffer.
"Well since everyone is here, I would like to announce.. Im pregnant." I blurt out.
Mason face instantly went to excitement. He wrapped me in his arms picked me up and spunt me around.
"Congratulations Mal, Your going to be a great mother." Mason sings.
My fathers face was frozen.
"How do you expect to take care of four children." He hisses. "Do you even know who the father to that seed is!?!" He almost screams.
"She taking care of one child right now, and her child. Who the father is doesn't matter, she'll have help from me and Nathan, I'll start working three jobs if I have too." Snaps Mason.
My father didn't like the sound of that.
"What about practic--" he began.
" I dont expect help from anyone with my child. I have a very good paying job." I interrupted him.
"Where do you work waitressing for Jene." He snickers.
" Actually, Shes the new principal at Baiburg High." Mason snickers shooting me devious look.
"How could you be so oblivious to who's your new boss father. Should've came to the meeting ." I laugh.
A look of discust crosses my fathers face.
"GET OUT BOTH OF YOU, IMMEDIATELY!" He Screams.
We leave the den with no hesitation and go say goodbye to our mother.
" If you need anything let me know, and Mason your more than welcome to come tomorrow to move your things out after school." She reassures both of us.
We thank her and exit the house.
"That was easier then I thought."
I laugh. "Thank you Mason I couldnt of done it with out you."
"Anytime Mal, lets go home." Mason smiles "I'll meet you there." he smiles.
I smiled back and nodded.
I got in my car and headed home.
This isn't the end of this . I just know it .. my father is a devious man. One who's sure he always gets his way. Some how some way. For now we won. But soon his parade of vengeance will rain down upon us.
