Chapter 4

I entered the Hotel the next morning to, a lack of better words, chaos. There was a group of people hurdled in the lobby and from what the loud voices, one can assume that they were fighting and I was confused as to where Caleb was. Even Brian was nowhere to be seen. I hurriedly walked towards them as I got closer, I could make out a couple of Asian looking men at the centre and our employees gathered around them. One Asian man in particular was screaming at another Asian one next to him, while the one being yelled at kept his head bowed down and looked like he was apologising. Getting closer, I started clearly making out the words he was saying as Chinese. "**, **, ********, *********, *********" [Hello sir, I'm Kate Olsen, Mr. Frost's secretary, who's the general manager of this hotel.] I spoke to the man shouting. Apparently he was the leader of that group. "*, *******!" [Ah, finally someone to talk to!] He spoke with a sharp tone and I kept my smile. "*********?" [How may I help you?] "**********, ***********, *****?*******, ************. *********!********?" [We were supposed to arrive today from china to find our rooms ready don't you agree? We had a very long trip and I'm not one you should upset. The translator didn't even show up yet! Don't you know who I am?] He fumed out. My tongue felt tied, not knowing what to answer him. The seconds felt the longest but before things took a bad turn, an employee stood behind and raised a paper with the Chinese man's name I assumed. "**, **, ******, **************. " [Yes of course, you're Mr. Xiao Lau, founder and CEO if Pauling industries..] I replied confidently as I looked at the man in front of me. He seemed taken aback a little by my burst of confidence but soon went back to his angry demeanour. "**********, **********, ********. *******" [Then why do I come here now and your desk boy there tells me that my room was taken. A double reservation he says.] Oh crap. I maintained my calm composure and brightened my smile. "*, **, ******. ***********************************. " [No sir, it's not taken. We changed your stay to a bigger suit. We couldn't have a VIP guest like you stay at just any room.] By now Mr. Xiao Lau has visibly calmed down. "***. *********" [Follow me. I'll take you to your room.] "**. **" [Uhh..sure.] "************" [Just give me second to fetch the room keys.] I hurried towards the front desk. "Quick, find me an empty suit." I whispered. "That's a hard thing to ask Miss Olsen, all the rooms are full now. Our hotel never had an empty room for a while now." The boy behind the desk replied with worries stricken eyes. And mine mirrored his worry. "Wait so you mean to tell me that all our guests are already checked in?" I asked. "Uhm, no. But all the rooms are completely booked." An idea started to form in my head and I crossed my fingers for hope. "Okay, just give me the keys to any empty suit now. But make sure that it's guests won't be checking in today or tomorrow." The boy typed away at his computer and turned to look at a patiently waiting Mr. Lau, offering him an assuring smile before turning around again. "Here, suit number 4803. Forty eighth floor. It was booked by a Mr. Little and his wife. They made the reservation for four days from now." "Great, give me the suit keys and send out someone to take their luggage." "I'll be coming with you." A male voiced came from behind me making me turn to a well suited man with a dirty blonde hair and beard to match and bright green eyes. "And you are?" I asked. "I'm Edward Jones, I'm the duty manager down here." He replied. I didn't waste time with introductions and started making my way towards Mr. Lau as I replied. "Okay, great." "**, ***" [This way sir] I motioned to Mr. Lau with my hand towards the elevators. "**, ****************. *******?" [So, what brings you to America Mr. Lau. business or luxury?] I asked, trying to lighten up the mood. "**************************" [Men like us don't find time for luxury that easily Miss Olsen.] He replied sassily and I suddenly felt really stupid. All I wanted was to make small talk to lighten our relationship as customer and seller up. "**, *******, *********, ****. *****************" [But, I won't mind staying a day or two more for luxury if I liked it here. Maybe give myself the chance to roam the city.] "***************" [I'm sure you'll enjoy yourself here.] I replied with a wide grin. Let's just hope he doesn't exceed the four day stay. 'You've reached the forty eight floor.' The automated robot spoke and the doors soon were opened. "*****" [This way please.] I ushered the men towards Room 4803 and opened the door feeling all kinds of nervousness in my stomach. I switched on the lights and held the door opened for Mr. Lau and his two men. "*********. **************" [Welcome to Gold's hotel. I hope you enjoy our stay with us.] "********" [Thank you Miss Olsen.] Mr. Lau replied with a smile as he entered. "********, *****, ***********, ********, ************. ***********" [You can relax now and if you feel hungry you can go down to eat our restaurant or you can call room service, I'm sure they'll be glad to help. Your luggage will be coming up soon.] "************?" [How will they understand me when I call?] Mr. Lau asked with a mockingly raised eyebrow, and for the second time today made me feel all kinds of stupid. But my brain thought quickly and I pulled out a piece of paper and a pen, quickly jotting down my number. "*************, *******, *****************" [Here, this is my number. You can call me if you need anything and I'll connect your order to room service.] I handed the paper to him with a smile which he mirrored, bid him goodbye and left with Mr. Jones who was standing there silently the whole time. I let out a breath of relief once we left the room before turning to look at Mr. Jones. "Where the hell is Mr. Frost? And where the hell was the translator?" I exasperated. "Miss Olsen, Mr. Frost has been missing since yesterday."
