My Stepbrother and I

Chapter 2

After the class, I went outside to catch the bus to my house.

Again in the bus, I'm going to be alone, so I brought out my earpiece and started listening to music, all the way till u got to my house.

When I got home, I found some food available to eat, my mom has left me a plate of rice with coleslaw, so I took it up and started eating.

I've been really hungry, so I did not even waste any time to eat.

After eating, I decided to bring my book to start working on my assignments, after working on my assignment, I looked at at the time and saw that it was around seven o'clock, but my mum is not yet back. I'm not too worried because she already told me that she was going to meeting as she claimed.

I decided to take care of the house, wash the dishes, take out the trash, wash some clothes and after doing all the chores, I took a book and went straight to read a book.

I just took a nap for a while and when I woke up it was already two in the morning.

"Where could she have gone," I wondered.

I heard a sound on the door, I peeped through the door of my room and I saw the way she was sneaking in to the room.

She thinks she is so smart, she was tip toeing, so she won't wake me, thinking I'm asleep.

She was walking towards my room, so I ran carefully to my bed and pretended I was asleep.

The door opened and she stood there for a while looking at me. She closed the door and went back to her room.

I have two choices tomorrow, I can either ask her to explain why she is just coming by this time of I could just ignore it as usual.

After spending half the night thinking, I decided to ignore it again, even though I know it would take a lot of my energy to do so.I later fell asleep thinking.

It was already morning and I was getting prepared to go to school, I was trying all my best to avoid my mum this morning,bi did not have any energy for fight.

"Hey," I heard my mum's voice from afar.

I tried my best to ignore her but I guess she is always going to have her way.

"Hi mum," I forced my self to speak.

"Going to school?" She asked.

Even though it's so obvious that was where I'm headed to she still had to ask.

"Well yes," I said with my eyebrows up.

"Uhm, I want to speak to you before you go," She said while holding the chair in the dining. You could tell she was so nervous about what she wanted to say.

"Oh, okay," I said, even though I did not want to talk.

As I was about to take my seat, I noticed something shiny in my mum's left hand.

I decided to take a closer look at it, and I saw a ring on her middle finger.

"I just hope it is not what I think it is," I thought to myself.

"So, there's something I've wanted to tell you for a while and now I can't let another moment go without letting you know that," She explained.

"I'm all hears," I said, even though I did not sound convincing a little bit.

She took a deep sigh and finally managed to speak.

"I'm remarrying,"

I just paused there for a while, I did nog know what to say or do.

Those were the words I thought I would never hear, I never knew the day I would hear those words will come.

I was still so silent, there was no single reaction on my face, I'm very sure my mum's scared to death by now.

"It all happened so fast, I wanted to tell you but..."

"Happened so fast? Seriously? That's the best you can come up with?" I asked sounding like a detective.

She just stood there and did not know what to say.

"I mean, all this past few weeks that you've been lying that you are going for meetings, coming late at night, your late night calls too, who do you think you were fooling ?" I ranted out.

"I'm sorry, it's not easy being alone after all this years," She tried to explain.

"I know you are angry but, I did not just come to this decision one night," She added.

"You know what, I'm not angry, I'm disappointed," I said and I stood up and went straight outside and slammed the door.

I entered the bus and got to school, everything that happened this morning is still in my mind, I don't even know what to do, am I suppose to be the good daughter and just be happy for her or be the bad daughter and challenge her for it.

As I was walking, I was so lost in thought that I did not know that Betty and Annie have been calling me for a while now.

"Allyson," I heard and finally snapped out of my thoughts.

"Yeah what is it? I asked looking at their faces.

"What in the world are you thinking about?" Betty asked.

"Nothing," I lied.

"I know it is definitely something, because you can't be so lost in thought like that and lie to us that nothing is bothering you," Annie said.

"My mum's remarrying," I said as I almost bursted into tears.

"Oh no," Betty shouted.

"I know you never thought this day would come, but it's okay," Annie said as she patted me on the back.

"At the same time, it may not be a bad thing," Bettie said slowly.

"Betty!" Annie called our loud.

I looked up so confused, I thought she was supposed to be on my side.

"I mean, no shade, she is not only a mother but also a woman, just she cause she has a daughter and she is a single mum doesn't mean she does not deserve happiness. Betty said trying to defend herself.

Thinking about what Betty said, she is definitely right, I was actually overreacting, there is nothing bad in my mum remarrying, she deserves to be happy and I'm just making her sad. I must be crazy.

"You are actually right for the first time," I said while facing Betty.

"I think I'm just overreacting," I said.

"You think?" She asked.

"Well, now that I look at it, I see that Betty did not lie," Annie finally agreed.

"Enough of this pity vibes, let's go watch basketball," I said as I stood up from where I was sitting.

"Are you sure it's the basketball we want to watch?" Annie asked jokingly

"Yeah, I don't think so," Betty said and laughed.

"I mean...we can't help it," I said. We are just going to watch Zach play basketball. He looks so hot when he is playing basketball.

We ran to the court to get out seat space before it would get full, most of the girls are also on their way to the court too.

We ran inside and finally found a place to sit, and the players started coming in and all the girls started screaming on top of their voice. All of a sudden u saw the man of my dreams. Zach in his jersey and shorts, i don't know why he is always hot, it makes me my whole body yearn for him.

I also started screaming, something I wouldn't do on a normal day.

I stayed and watched the whole match, I had no idea what the match was about, but I know all about Zach movement through out the game.

When the game ended, everyone were headed to their various houses. And that's when reality hit me.

I have to apologize to my mum for the way I made her feel in the morning.

"Bye," Betty said and waved.

"You've got this," Annie said.

"Bye and thanks," I said and waved to them as I left.

I finally got home, I opened the door, and I heard my mum's voice, seems like she is on a call.

"I don't know what to do anymore, I'm scared," She said to the person on the call.

I closed the door and I stood and was looking.

"I will call you back," She said as she disconnects the call.

"Allyson," She said as she ran towards me and hugged me.

"I'm sorry, mum, I was just being mean in the morning," I said while i was still hugging her.

"I understand," She said as she was already in tears.

"I just want you to know that in happy for you," I said.
