Chapter 17: The Ball I Was Never Invited To Alex The Alpha’s voice thundered across the courtyard, loud enough to make the snow fall from the nearby roof tiles. It was a sound full of power and a deep, shaking anger. “Guards! Bring the whip.” Two heavily armoured wolves stepped forward from the line immediately. They moved with a cold, practiced rhythm, uncoiling a long length of silver-tipped leather. They looked like they had been waiting all morning for a reason to use it. The crowd of onlookers felt eager. They parted to make a wide circle, their eyes bright with a nasty kind of anticipation. I saw some of the younger wolves leaning forward to get a better view.
