Seraphine rushed toward Kaelan the very instant he hit the floor. It looked like she had been standing in the shadows just waiting for that exact moment to happen. She dropped down to her knees beside him. She made it look like a big emergency. Her hands were trembling as she reached out to help him sit up. She gripped his arm with one hand and pressed her other hand to her chest. She acted like she was the one who felt the most pain.
“Kaelan—are you hurt? Please tell me you are okay!” she whispered. Her voice sounded thick and full of concern. It was a very good act.
