Chapter one Knowing.
Where should I start? Where will I end? A senior in high school, these were things that often ran through my mind. Most of which consisted of what happened after high school, but more philosophical questions came to mind as well. As for my appearance, I wasn't eye-catching except for my hair. My hair was crimson red with bangs that covered my eyebrows. The length going to my lower back. My eyes were a crystal light blue, like the sky. A pen I was holding also just finished writing down those details on paperwork I needed to fill out for my ID card. Right at the top the name Akiko Yoi read. “Mom, why am I the one doing this? I’m going to be late?!” I shouted. “You’re eighteen! Take on some responsibility hun because in a month you won’t have me to hold your hand.” She said condescending. “Like I said, I'm about to be late though! You dropped this in my lap last second. Can you at least take it in on your way to work?” I snip back, annoyed with her attitude. “I suppose but this is the last favor you get from me. Remember you are outta here next month!” She laughed. Not sure why she had been laughing though. Really being homeless isn’t funny, even if this is how priests/priestesses lived. I may be a priestess but I was still just barely an adult. At age eighteen they kicked them out to fend for themselves. However in this world priests/priestesses granted wishes almost like a genie while rules and conditions kept the state of the world balanced. They had the power to grant wishes by forming contracts like a demon, however they weren’t out there to trick people but simply to make a living. If you were to ask them to make you into a werewolf they could but they would put in the contract you cannot kill people. If you do, the contract ends and you go back to being human. Another example would be marriage. A priest or priestess casts a contract over the two binding their souls for the rest of their lives. But a contract like this has severe drawbacks. If you marry in this world you are unable to romance any other person, if you try to you will die. Your souls are bound and if you try to cheat or anything like that on the person to which you made an original contract with, the contract breaks, forfeiting your very life that you gave to your husband or wife. Marriage in this world is a very serious devotion. Because of this there are very few people that even marry, afraid of the distant future of not loving their partner anymore but being stuck with them. When they say “Until death do us part”, they sincerely mean it. However through all the contracts in the world it had become warped into a place only read in fairytales. Any mythical creature you could think of exists here. Local Governments and Priest/priestesses keep control of the chaos through the conditions in their contracts, though that doesn’t stop rogue priests/priestesses from making contracts without any repercussions. Though enough about that for now. I ran downstairs still zoned out thinking about the world's history. We actually learned about it in class not too long ago. As I had walked along, before I knew it I was joined by my boyfriend Natsuno Yuki and My best friend Nyla Unagi. Natsuno was a muscular skinny teen male with white hair, side swept bangs and crimson red eyes. He and I knew each other since middle school and got very close very quickly to the point we started to go out. As I had to journey at only 18 years old he agreed to tag along to make sure nothing bad happened. Then there is Nyla. She was an animal human hybrid. Half tiger half human, though most of her features were human she had a tiger tail, retractable nails, Tiger ear and her hair color was orange faded into black. She had a short bob cut hair style, with bangs similar to mine. Unlike my straight hair though hers was wavy. Her nails may have looked normal but they could have done some damage. She was very short and skinny, about A cup breasts with a cute Peach. She always likes to tease me about my rather voluptuous breasts. (About C’s). While I was mulling over the details about my two comrades Nyla came up from behind and hugged my arm. “ Rather late this morning huh Aki?” Nyla said smiling. “ Yeah my mom got my ID information papers last minute and forced me to do it this morning. Let's just hope she actually remembers to hand them in when she goes to work…” I sighed regretting leaving it to her. Apparently what Nyla asked was a rhetorical question, because before I even had the chance to finish my sentence and continue my thought the two were walking ahead chatting amongst themselves. I pondered over the fact that maybe I had spoken way too Softly for them to even hear me. I suppose it was rather possible since I was still pretty tired from having been woken up so rudely that morning. Shrugging it off instead I just tuned into their new conversation like normal. It was some odd conversation about them wanting to be rich. If they wanted to stay with me when they graduated they really should stop thinking about being rich. Priest / priestesses live a rather nomadic life. Living off the jobs they come across and when times are rough sometimes have to sleep Outdoors. Nervousness had grabbed my heart hoping that they didn't misunderstand the way of life in the future for them. Severing all of my train of thoughts at the current time Nyla started to shout at me. “Hey Aki when are you a Natsu going to do the dirty? I hear him bitching about it all the time?” Her face was rather smug. “Uhh…What?!” I stammered out. “Nyla! Why would you ask her something like that?! Especially after I told you that in confidence!” Natsuno scolds her like a child. “Well you weren’t going to bring it up even though you’re the horn dog here.” Her finger pointed at him accusingly. “Right! I love how it also seems to slip your mind that I ALSO told you why she couldn’t and that I understood I needed to wait!” He said defensively. “Something about some ritual blah blah blah, yeah I know. Sounds like a bunch of crap to me.” Her eyes never left his, almost as if I was no longer right next to them. It was true though. As a priestess I wasn’t able to have s*x until I completed a very powerful ritual in order to make sure I wouldn’t have a child. For if I were to have a child my powers get passed down to the baby. As it stood though I had nowhere near enough experience to pull something like that off though. Rituals are very dangerous if not done correctly. Knowing that Natsuno was very uncomfortable with not being able to have any type of relations that way with me though didn't sit well with me either. Seeing the fact that I had been very uncomfortable with the whole conversation Nyla decided to drop it. How their conversation went a complete 180 will never cease to amaze me.While I pondered the argument a few minutes back Natsuno begins to run off causing Nyla to chase him. What had I missed that time? I supposed she had been bothering him about something else. They always bickered like an old married couple which had made me a tad jealous here and there, after all wasn’t that our job? Both of them long gone out of my sight by now, again I had been left behind. How did they manage to do that all the time? They get so involved in their debates that by the time I come back to reality from zoning out, they are already gone. As I approached the school I saw them at the entrance. Nyla seems to have one as Natsuno stormed off her s**t eating grin was almost laughable. She then noticed me as I got closer to the entrance. She apologized profusely for leaving me behind. I couldn't help but forgive her, after all, so far as I could tell they weren't doing it on purpose. One Month Later After Graduation… “CONGRATULATIONS!!!” My mother shouted. “Thanks mom…Though it’d probably feel better if I wasn’t getting kicked out, like immediately..” I grumbled. “ You never were a very grateful child, where are you?! The state only pays for you until today so yes you need to leave! My new husband needs your room! So GET OUT!!” She snapped. Where was this coming from?! My mother never was very affectionate but this was the first time I've ever heard her outright yell at me like that. Not to mention this was the first time I heard about this so-called husband of hers. Her attitude doing a complete 180 since I was able to be kicked out onto the streets. The severity of how little she cared for me hit me like a ton of bricks. All this time I had just been a burden she wanted to get rid of but was unable because it was against the law. I had felt the tears rolling down my cheeks as she yelled at me to go faster getting my stuff. Once I finally had finished getting all of my stuff together she pushed me out the door slamming it behind me. I was shattered the whole way walking to the meeting spot. I was sobbing until I finally saw my comrades approaching, drying my tears trying to avoid bringing up the conversation. END OF CHAPTER ONE….
