ChapterOne
“I shouldn’t be here.” I muttered with my head down as I entered the Night Howl’s pack house. I wasn’t welcomed here, I knew that fact already.
Not once did this place ever feel like home even though my father was the beta. He never liked me. Maybe he did but after my eighteenth birthday, things changed. He favored my sister, Elsie more and of course, Oliver, my brother who took over Dad’s beta position when he phased eight years ago on his eighteenth birthday.
I was the youngest child amongst all three of us so you would expect me to be loved and cherished by them but that was far from the case. I was hated by them and even abandoned.
It had been three years already since I failed to morph into my wolf just like my siblings did when it was their coming of age ceremony. Since they were both strong werewolves, everyone expected me to be just like them.
Who knew I would end up being a loser and a disgrace to the family?
After my eighteenth birthday, my parents gave me some time, hoping that my wolf was just late and like some rare cases, she would come around soon.
It was all in vain.
One year passed and nothing happened. That was when my parents decided that they had tried and it was finally time to give up on me. I knew that they weren’t pleased with me but the last thing I expected was for my parents to disown me and send me out of the pack house.
They didn’t want a wolf less girl as their daughter, ruining their image and reputation of being a family of powerful wolves.
I was now twenty years old with thick black hair and hazel eyes that stood out in the sun. My skin was as smooth as glass but I had a small frame of 5ft4 unlike my brother who was 6ft5 and Elsie with a 5ft9 height.
The only thing I had going for me were my looks and body. Asides that, I was nothing but a failure.
I wouldn’t dare come into the pack house on a normal day but there was a special occasion today and I didn’t want to miss it for anything.
Today was the day Alpha Jackson returns from his four year business trip. Even though he got crowned as the new Alpha, his father still has to stick around and rule because of the serious matters he had to attend to in those few years. The people in the pack house were excited to welcome their new Alpha.
I had never seen him before even though my brother is Beta and my sister is to be matched with him if neither of them gets their mate before the year ends. Knowing Elsie, she was doing everything to avoid meeting her fated mate as she wanted to become Luna more than anything.
I was just thankful that I had the freedom to attend since none of my family members lived with me. They will probably s**t in their pants if they see me here but what do I have to lose?
But I was a little scared that my brother, Oliver would send me back to my little apartment if I am found wandering around so I quickly adjust my face cap and cover my face.
Most of the pack members didn’t like me just like my family and during my time here, I was continuously bullied. That was one of the reasons I was happy to leave.
“Ava?” I froze in my tracks and cursed inaudibly as the voice of my sister boomed across the hallway.
“It is you. What the f**k are you doing here?” She grabbed my arm and spun me around with her wolf strength, forcing me to face her.
“I just want to see the new Alpha. I heard that everyone was invited for the ceremony.” I replied softly, giving myself some points for not bursting into tears.
Elsie’s expression changed to an amused one before she burst into loud laughter.
“You are not everyone, Ava. The notice said that every werewolf was invited. You, my darling are not a werewolf so tell me, how exactly are you invited?” She snarled.
“I am a werewolf.” I defend but that amuses her even more as she began laughing hysterically.
“Where’s your wolf then?” She mocked and I immediately lower my head in shame knowing that she was right.
“Leave, Ava. And don’t come back. You shouldn’t be here when Alpha Jackson returns. I don’t what my mate getting irritated because of your presence.” She warned and walked away, leaving me to the Judgmental stares of the other werewolves present.
A part of me wanted to defy her and wait until I saw the Alpha but I knew that she was being nice by letting me go without reporting to my brother, Oliver. So, I run out of the pack house and head for my little apartment.
I lived a bit far from the pack house as my father wanted me to be as far as possible.
I ignore the taxi’s that were honking at my way and run towards my house. I don’t know how long I run but when I finally get to my little apartment, I am completely drenched with sweat and my eyes are filled with tears.
I would give anything to leave this pack, this territory. But, I couldn’t. My father was beta so other packs already knew who I was and the minute I step foot in their territories, I would either be killed my fathers enemies or be treated as a rogue wolf. Even worse, returned to my pack and punished for being a traitor.
Sucks huh?
My family lived at the pack house with the Alpha and Gamma so I guess you can say they did more than enough by renting an apartment for me to live in. It was a really small and shitty place but it was enough to keep me away from the rain.
I had to work at a café down the street to prepare my own meals and meet up with my daily needs because my family didn’t give two f***s about how I feed. The only reason my father rented an apartment for me is so that he can be sure that I wouldn’t run off and tarnish his name further.
I barely close my eyes when I receive a text from Gianna, my only friend at the pack house.
Gianna was an omega. If we’re to be honest, that is just another name for the word ‘ slave ’. Her entire family is a family of Omegas and she is always treated as trash. I guess we became friends because we had that in common.
I open the text only to be met with the most surprising words.
Gianna: You’ve got to hurry over, Ava. The Alpha is looking for you.”
