Prologue
Adriel
I walked through Guardian's Lake calmly. I have nothing to worry about. I did everything right, starting with my training as a guardian for the minor assignments that I got after that. I never had a single mistake in my hundreds of years of lifetime, and now I was ready for my first mission on Earth.
I wondered why they put a lake around the Guardian's tent. Maybe because the generals thought it could calm a bunch of angered angels. Water always has that power on us. Or simply because it was beauteous. Angels were really fond of beautiful things. That's how we were created, to seek beauty and good all and above.
The tent was enormous, mightier enough to be a place for fifty of us, although there were only five angels in it now. In the middle stood Ezekiel, the general of the guardians, everybody else guarded him in a half circle. I stood in front of them excitedly.
What will be my assignment? I might get a miracle child, one that has a touch of deity. Or somebody who got in trouble with the Downworld? It would be good to fight with demons and their evil creations.
I bowed to them, showing my respect, and then we all went to the edge of the lake. One of the lieutenants touched the water, and it turned into glass. My heart started to melt at the same time as the lake changed icy. The vision became clearer, and I finally saw her for the first time. The girl was young, probably eighteen-twenty years old. Although she was coated with dirt, I could clearly see her flawless milky skin glowing underneath. Her beautiful blonde hair was reaching her waist, and the stunning blue of her eyes would make any man fall for her. My breath hitched, I couldn't take my eyes off her. If an angel could ever have soft feelings for somebody, I would definitely have it right now.
"She will be your assignment" stated Ezekiel.
"Who is she?" he asked quietly, like my question would make the vision vanish away.
"Her name is Aliana, we need you to..." he started.
"I will protect her, no matter what danger Hell will throw in our way." I injected at once. I need this mission to be perfect.
"No. That's not the task that will be given to you." said the general, his face already controlled in displeasure. "We need you to keep an eye on her. She is the danger.”
Danger? How can someone looking like her be a threat?
