The Girl Who Danced in Rain

Miles Smith joined the army against his family's wishes. His family had a huge business empire across California state. Mr. Smith wanted Miles to join the legacy business but Miles had different ambitions with his life. He was inspired by the life of a military man, the discipline, the rigor and the purpose that defined the life of a soldier. He joined in irrespective of the fact that a lot of peer pressure did not want him to. He did not care for them. All he knew was his training and his military missions that awaited him. He met John Williams, the father of Anne as his commanding officer. John Williams and Miles soon developed amicable relations. John introduced him to his family and there he met Anne for the first time. He noticed the void in life of Anne in the form of her loneliness. He also sensed the difficulties of the William family in the form of Ron's illness and aloofness of Anne's family from her. He witnessed it all and suggested that he can take Ron to his family doctor so that he can treat his disease better. But Mr.John refused. According to Mr.John, Ron was improving now and he will be better in the coming days. That day, Miles was invited over for dinner at Mr.John's house. Mickey had also come from his hostel to spend his vacation at home. Ron was isolated from all the hustle bustle in his house and Anne was busy with her mother in the kitchen. When the doorbell rang, Anne answered the door. He saw a very handsome, tall and visually mesmerizing man on her doorstep. He was in his late 20s and Anne had just turned nineteen this summer. Anne opened the door and saw Miles' back towards her. Miles did not know that the door was already answered, he was on the phone at that time. When he turned,still on the phone, he saw a young, pretty and slightly reserved girl on the door. " You must be Miss Williams? the very dear daughter of Mr.Jhon." Anne was very surprised over the detail Miles had on her. The confidence of this man touched her deeply and she gave her the way to get inside without saying anything. "Is Mr.Jhon home?" He abruptly asked her and she nodded her head in a yes. She was a diffident girl who came in contact with fewer outsiders so she did not answer anything Miles asked. She brought him to the TV lounge where Mr.Jhon was watching the TV. Mr.Jhon got up from the sofa and spread his arms for Miles and Miles rushed to embrace him. "The house is all set, our Giants are gonna beat the hell out of these Dodgers" Mr.John said while smiling. They sat on the sofa and started watching the TV. Anne could not dare to stand there for any longer, so, she went to the kitchen where her mother was cooking the chicken steaks for the guest and family. Mrs.John smiled at her daughter without any thought in her head and Anne stood there without understanding what her smile meant. The dining table was all set for supper. Mr. John was sitting on the host seat and Miles was sitting on his left. On the very opposite side of Mr.John was Mrs.John sitting and on her left was Anne. Ron and Mickey were not joining them as they were still busy with the match. Mrs.Jhon was asking Miles if he was gonna marry soon and he said, "Fancy that you asked Mrs.Jhon. I am super busy with my missions and stuff, I cannot afford any distraction" he said while he was watching his plate where the steak was carefully kept along with the veggies. Mrs. John spoke again and this time she asked another weird question, "You must have a girlfriend then, you are a handsome guy yourself. many girls would be fancying you" and he said on a lighter note, "I don't know about the girls these days as I am oriented towards my goal. Unfortunately, I am unable to pay them any attention," and Mrs.John stopped asking any questions about his love life. Out of nowhere, the attention of the house was focused over Anne now. Miles asked her about her education and goals towards life and she said she wants to be a solicitor. Miles said light-heartedly, " But Solicitors, damn, they are super confident, aren't they?" It was not that Miles was mocking her confidence level but he was very concerned about it. She suddenly became aware of her surroundings and preferred to attend the concern of Miles. "Solicitors have to show what they have got only in courts. I think I can manage to speak well in courts." She said calmly and Miles looked at her with extra care. He did not smile as he was thinking about something. "You know I have a job offer for you. If you care to join my firm, you will be a good addition to my professional team". Everyone was stunned at this offer. Anne's parents knew that Miles' family had business chains all across the state and they don't offer jobs like this to anyone but the answer of Anne even bewildered them more. When they heard a straight no they wanted to argue it with their young daughter but Anne only said, " I want to acquire a job on merit not based on someone's mercy" and Miles' smile was gone. He did not mean to throw a job offer on Anne based on his link with her father but that ship was sailed already. He was misunderstood by Anne and it was hurting him. He cleared it readily, " I did not mean to offer you this job out of anywhere. Indeed we are hiring young students across the state to empower them". For a second, the dining room went silent and Anne ended the conversation by saying that she does not need the opportunity right now.
