With her long cane held firmly in her right grip and Daisy’s chain held in her left one, she took slow steps on the outdoor concrete floor, while trying to acclimatize herself with her new environment. Ava walks quietly behind her, she looked worriedly at Valeria as she made her way towards where a little garden was. Ava pitied her, right from the moment she had seen Valeria, she kept wondering how Valeria ended up the way she is and she later concluded it to might be genetic.
“Be careful ma’am” Ava warned the third time since they had been on the patrol around the house. Valeria had declined her offer of guiding her around and only told her to inform her of wherever they were at. Valeria was confident that just with the help of her dog and her walking stick could make her find her way. Back at her previous home, she had only walked around with Daisy barking to alarm her if she was about to hit a dead end. Emma had only bathed and dressed for her. Thankfully, her stepmother’s chide helped her in not relaying on anyone’s help to do lots of things. The only reason Emma was hired was because her father chose to. Her father had been always oblivious to everything Alice made Valeria go through because of his day to day trip. He had always been the type to go to work trips a lot and he hardly has time to check up on his family. Valeria had guessed he would have probably met Alice at one of his work trips.
“The weather seems colder than yesterday, don’t you think so Ava” Valeria said while she trailed her walking stick on the ground.
“Yes it is ma’am” Ava said with a bright smile spread across her face. Valeria stops in her track, she turns back and searches for the direction Ava might be with but she couldn’t get the exact direction so she just stayed rooted.
“Isn’t it tiring to take care of me, I need you to be honest Ava, only then will I be able to trust you” Valeria said. Ava carefully thought of the best reply to sound most honest, she knew Valeria might not believe her if she just gave a simple reply.
“If it were someone else, I might be but honestly, it’s no stress for me at all ma’am, you can lay your trust on me” Ava said and this brought a smile on Valeria’s lips.
She didn’t say anything before she turns back and begins to walk towards the destination she couldn’t see.
“Where are we in” Valeria asked as she steps on the grass floor. She knew they were somewhere peculiar in the house, her favorite type of place.
“The garden ma’am” Ava said.
“Please call me Valeria, I insist” Valeria wasn’t used to be referred to as that, Emma, her previous personal assistant had been an older woman so she usually calls her by her name. Emma had served her since she was ten years of age till right before she got married. The woman talked less and expressed little pity for her, if Emma had really pitied her, Valeria wasn’t aware because the woman just did her one job of bathing and dressing her and then, she will be off right away.
Valeria smiled when she scented flowers, they are one of the part of nature she loved. She moves around the garden, momentarily stepping on some and apologizing quietly to no one in particular.
While she was doing that, oblivious to her, Noah stayed right beside the window in his study, gazing below him to the garden. He watches as Velaria happily walked around the garden. He wondered why a human with so much wound will be so cheerful like her life had been bed of roses. It infuriated him how carefree she seemed to be despite being in his abode.
He goes away from the window and went over to take out another cigarette from his cigarette case. He felt a lot satisfied after he had smoked a wrap. He worked some more and after about two hours, he left for his room. It was already evening and he had completely forgotten the room wasn’t no longer his alone. When he opened the door to his room, he sees Valeria, sitted like a statue, with her dog held in her arms while she stared into his direction, only that she couldn’t see him but she heard the door open which made a smile form on her lips since she was bored staying alone in the room. She had expected it to be Ava but when she got a whiff of Noah’s scent which had been mixed with faint smell of cigarette, she knew it was her husband.
Noah was somewhat annoyed to meet her there, he knew he could definitely not get used to her being in his room especially her cuddling her dog every time right beside him. He quickly concludes on moving her things to the room opposite his so he could regain his privacy. Valeria wanted to speak first but instantly recalls when he had blatantly shunned her earlier in the morning so she decides to keep quiet.
“You can’t stay here with me in the room” Noah said while he stood a little far from her but he had his eyes glued on her.
“I will have you moved to the room right in front of here” he added when he sees Valeria wasn’t responding like she was searching for words to say.
Valeria on the other hand was disappointed when he had spoken. Though she wasn’t used to having a sleeping partner but she actually felt different and she had slept more peacefully when he was right next to her the night before more than she had ever slept after her accident. She knew it wasn’t in her place to talk him into allowing her to stay with him, moreover it would cause a misunderstanding so she agrees.
“It’s okay, I wouldn’t like to make you feel uncomfortable in your own home” Valeria said with a lovely smile which annoyed Noah. He had expected her to at least say words of disagreement or be hesitant but she also seemed eager to be away from him.
“You can sleep here tonight but not with the dog, they are filthy, I will have your things moved tomorrow” Noah said distastefully which hurt Valeria a little but she still kept the smile on.
“Understood” Valeria said. Noah’s brows furrowed further as he thought of how calm she was even with how bad he had talked to her. He wondered if he could ever get used to her mild personality and it infuriated him more that he could hardly stop glancing at her every passing minutes.
