Wife’s Misery

“This is the ledger of the year before he started working in the company and this is after two years he had been in the company” Lucas handed over two ledgers to Noah who had been sitted on the chair and had his hands laid on the desk in his study room.Noah’s face twisted in a ugly frown as he stares at the book Lucas had passed to him.He had yet successfully caught another rat who had been embezzling his and his father’s hard earned money.He swiftly goes through the two ledger and sees a urge difference with how much the company fund had decreased.

“He dared stole from me right under my nose”Noah said with his fists now balled.Lucas wasn’t intimidated by his look because he had always witnessed it and he learned to get used to it.

“I think he found out you were unto him because he hasn’t been showing up for three days now”Lucas informed Noah while he stood standing with his hands crossed over each other.

“Find our his whereabouts and get him locked up,nobody steals from me and goes scot free”Noah ordered with his teeth gritted.There is a lot of project he needed to carry out but then suddenly the fund of the company had been said to not be enough which had never occurred before.His father mustn’t hear of his incompetency to manage his staffs so he needs to find a way to get the fund immediately.Thankfully,he personally own a casino which is unknown to anyone except Lucas and it earns him a lot of money so he plans on sourcing out the fund from there.

“The video uploaded yesterday has been deleted but lots of rumors had arisen about your marriage, thankfully, it doesn’t affect the company’s business but you need to acknowledge it and I thought maybe you could at least grant an interview with any of the reporters to clear the rumors” Lucas suggested but immediately regrets it when he sees the glower on Noah’s face.

“You don’t have to though, I have everything under control” he quickly added and Noah looks away from him to place his sight in the drawers under his desk to get himself a cigar. He draws it out and his eyes searches for his cigarette case. He brings it out as soon as he found it and opens the case to get himself a wrap of cigar.It’s a habit of his to light a cigar to calm himself down any time someone upsets him.He had Cigar every where he’s in. He had a case in the drawers of the cabinet in his room, he had another in his office back at the company and then his study.He lights the Cigar and immediately inhales in as much as he could and puffs it out in an instant.

“I should come in to the office tomorrow, I can’t stay rooted here with the company in a midst of disarray” Noah said while he puffes out another smoke.

“Your austere father won’t be in congruent with that”Lucas said which reminded him of his old man’s strict warning of him not going to the office until two weeks after his wedding.He lets out a grunt and inhale another amount of smoke into his lungs.

“I will deal with him, you focus on getting that bastard who ran off with my money” Noah said while his deadly gaze was directed to nothing in particular. Lucas sighs. He had gotten tired of being put in the middle of Mr Owens and Noah’s fights. Mr Owens had always scolded him about not doing his job right, saying he wasn’t putting an effort in making Noah listen to him. He figured he will have to face Mr Owens again if Noah truly resumes work the next day.

“I should go then since I will be pretty occupied” Lucas said and turns to leave. Something came up on Noah’s mind and he stops Lucas.

“Do you perhaps have any idea if she has always been blind” Noah asked out of the blue which made Lucas gaze at him with a playful smile on his lips. Noah had been the one who told him he wasn’t interested in listening to anything about his wife when Lucas had come to pass a message his father had sent to him before the wedding to come for a dinner night with his fiancée’s family which he eventually never attended. He had no idea how his fiancée looked and the fact that she is a blind woman. Lucas had only told him her name and instantly stops Lucas when he wanted to say more about Valeria saying “it’s unnecessary”.

Noah saw the whimsical smile plastered on Lucas’s face. He remembered he had blatantly turned down Lucas’s offer on feeding him in on his wife’s information and he knows it was the reason for Lucas’s reaction.

“No she wasn’t, until an accident she lost her mother in and then,her sight” Lucas said. Noah’s face relaxed a bit. A feeling he couldn’t explain arose in him as he thought of how devastated the smith’s family would have been when the accident occurred.

“But I thought her mother was present at the wedding yesterday” Noah said when he instantaneously remembered the woman he had sighted beside Valeria’s father. Dexton, Valeria’s father is a friend of Noah’s father back in middle school and they had just reunited after many years of departing so Noah doesn’t know anything about the smiths.

“That was her stepmother” Lucas said,he sounded fed up with Noah’s questions as he had a lot of things to take care of thanks to Noah’s uncalm nature. Noah nods in understanding while his gaze was narrowed at the documents on the table but his mind was actually somewhere else.

“I should go now” Lucas said and turns to leave.He heaves a sigh of relief when he had successfully gotten out of the study without Noah stopping him again.He makes his way towards the outside of Noah’s home.

Noah on the other hand had his mind occupied with the thought of his wife. His brows furrowed as he thought of how Valeria managed to always have a smile on when her life hadn’t been shaped in anyway near perfection. He knows the type of person she is, people that pretend to be always fine when they are not, people that hide their true feelings and let their pretense of a life ruin them little by little, people he loathed the most.
