“There she is.” I say with a grin when I see Nicole make her way out through the trees. I am leaning against my car at our usual spot.
Getting a minute together has been like pulling teeth, and the only reason Nicole agreed to see me today is because she wants to talk about something. I drove over so we would have a place to sit in case she got too tired with standing around. I didn’t want her straining herself just to be out here with me.
“Hey,” she says, a little deflated.
“I missed you man,” I tell her when I walk up to her and hug her. She seems to melt into me, and I love the feeling. It doesn’t last long, and she pulls away, keeping her gaze down. “I was so close to just banging down the door so I could come see you.” I joke.
