“Beautiful, ain't it?”
I looked down from the top of the hill and saw the wonderful view of Devas along with the rising sun.
“Beautiful,” I mumbled back.
Is this what he wanted to show me?
Kieran sighed and walked to the big sycamore tree. There was this tire swing hung around one of the tree’s branches. He sat there and started swinging like a child.
I smiled at him as he played and laughed alone.
“Do you miss being a child?” I walked towards him as the cold and refreshing breeze of air struck my skin.
Kieran slowed down and looked at me. After a second, he shrugged. “I don't even remember being a normal child at all.”
One of my brows scrunched up. “What are you talking about?”
He blinked thrice, probably trying to process what he said, or what I asked. However, he didn't respond. He just smiled at and continued swinging.
“Life’s been too hard on me, Eagle. And this place is my solace.”
“You come here often?”
He nodded his head.
I don't know anything about him. Until now, Kieran Edevane still remains a mystery to me. He is a living question mark.
He shouldn't be trusted, but right now, I don't have anyone beside me. He makes me feel safe whenever he's around. He's like family.
“Would you want to try this? I can adjust the rope if you want to,” Kieran suggested, and stood up from the tire swing. I shook my head at him. I don't feel like being a child right now unless Everlee is with me. Everlee and I had enough of swinging and playing when we were kids. If she is here with me right now, I would play with her until the day ends.
I miss her. I miss my sister. I miss my family.
“Have you discovered your seventh sense?” asked Kieran, who was standing beside me.
He's asking about it again. Seriously, why is he so eager to know about my seventh sense?
I took a deep sigh and looked up at the morning sky. The clouds are comfortably lying down on the vast blue blanket.
“Maybe it'll take time for me to unlock my seventh sense,” I replied in dismay. I am starting to get impatient about it too. Those werewolves who turned eighteen immediately got their sixth and seventh sense. And here am I, an auctioned omega with a common sixth sense and an unknown seventh sense.
“Kiekie!”
Kieran and I both turned out gazing at the voice approaching us. It was a voice of a shouting child.
A boy with bright red eyes came running towards us with a big smile on his face. He's so adorable! He might be aged five. He's also wearing a denim jumper and a striped black and white shirt beneath.
“A vampire?” I muttered under my breath. I can't be mistaken. I sense vampire blood in this child!
The boy hugged Kieran who looked as happy as him. Kieran whispered something in the boy's ear after hugging him, but I didn't hear it. I don't want to bother even knowing about it anyway.
“Hi! Are you Kiekie’s friend?” the boy looked at me and smiled. One of his teeth from the front is missing, which made him even cuter.
I nodded my head at the child and smiled widely at him. Even if I don't really consider Kieran my friend, I just nodded my head.
“A-are you a vampire?” I subconsciously asked the child. That wasn't supposed to be my first question.
The child immediately nodded his head and admitted it. “Yes, I am a vampire.”
I gasped in shock. I can't believe I am standing right in front of a vampire kid! This is the first time I got very close to a vampire in my life!
Long before, vampires and werewolves agreed to live in separate dimensions for peace. Werewolves remained in Devas, and the vampires dwelled in the Land of Valiaris. Nonetheless, some vampires still reside here in Devas for personal reasons. Thankfully, werewolves and vampires are still living with the agreement fifty years ago when the pact was made — that no one should cause war again.
The birth of Valiaris, fifty years ago, happened because of a rumor that the moon stone had been released from the depths of the deepest oceans. That moon stone is considered the most powerful stone that originally belonged to Devas, and the vampires wanted to steal the stone from us. Unfortunately, during those times too, vampires and werewolves all lived here in Devas so feuds happened very usually. All these wars I heard were all because of the moon stone. Even the great war two thousand years ago which involved the dragons too.
That was just a rumor I heard. I don't even know if the moon stone really existed. If it was real, I wonder where it is right now. But one thing for sure is that the war was real. Lots of innocent vampires and werewolves during that time were killed. That is why the treaty and a new dimension were made.
“Where are your parents? Are they here with you? Are they vampires too?” I asked the child. He just remained smiling at me with no change in his expression.
“Of course, my parents are vampires.”
The three of us sat on the top of the hill, on grassy land, and had a mini-picnic. Good thing we bought bread and jam earlier.
Most of the time, it was just Kieran and the child vampire—whose name was Tobby Mortime, conversing. Tobby had the most words said and Kieran just listened to the child's rants and stories. Kieran kept glancing at me, gesturing to me that everything was going to be all right and that we would immediately go back to the castle after Tobby finished his story.
I loved how Tobby addressed Kieran as ‘Kiekie’. It sounds like the name of a brown hamster.
“Do vampires have powers too?” I interrupted their conversation and asked Tobby out of the blue. I know vampires have abilities just like werewolves, but I want to hear a vampire say it himself.
“Uhuh, of course, we do! Mine is an illusion.”
I gasped for the nth time. “Y-you already have your abilities?”
Tobby nodded his head. “Vampire powers come immediately when a vampire turns seven. And I am already seven so I just got my power recently. It's called charms.”
Okay. Tobby isn't aged five. He's seven.
Charms. A vampire's power.
“Can you show me how your charm works? If you aren't allowed to use it, then don't.”
Tobby blinked his eyes at me in confusion. “You want me to show how my illusion works?”
I nodded my head and smiled. For some reason, my heart was beating so fast and I wonder if it was from excitement or apprehension.
“Just show her a little, Tobtob,” Kieran interjected from the side. Tobby agreed.
“Okay.” Tobby held my hand and closed his eyes. “Brace yourself, Quiqui.”
