Chapter 06: Seventh Sense

1106 Words
Kieran brought me to the room I was assigned to. It was also beside all the other maidservants’ rooms. Just as expected, I ended up being a servant in this place. Nevertheless, I am in the royal castle, serving the Alpha King. What more is there to ask for? The interior of the room doesn't look very bad. It was spacious enough for me. Honestly, it looked better than our house. The bed is big, and the sheets are clean with no holes. Definitely better than what I have back home because my blankets are covered with holes. The pillows are soft and all the things I need are already here. A cabinet, a set of clothes, and those blue uniforms I saw the servants wearing, shoes, slippers, food, and extra cash with a note placed on it. Allowance for the week. One-thousand bucks. One thousand dollars?! "Is this real? Or should I have to pay it back? Or is this already my salary for the whole year?!" I shrieked. I couldn't believe my eyes so I checked if I really wasn't seeing the wrong number. Three zeroes. I can't be wrong. I heard Kieran take a deep breath from behind and crossed his arms. He leaned in the doorway and looked at me with enthusiasm like I was a fish, making him entertained. "Why are you looking at me like that?" I asked him and arched a brow. I don't want to be rude to him, but he is giving me this aura that I should just speak informally with him. I don't know, we're bound to be friends anyway, because he will be accompanying me until the end of my stay here in the castle. "That's real, eagle," he replied to me. "You are working for the Alpha King. The minimum wage for the workers here is certainly higher than for workers outside." My jaw dropped. "And this is only my allowance, right?" "Yup. You get your pay every fifteenth and thirtieth of the month. Of course, your payment will be higher than your allowance." I felt like I was going to faint. I can't believe it. A thousand dollars per week is my parents' combined to pay for the whole month! And my salary as a servant is also separate! This will make me rich! "But let me warn you, eagle, the Alpha King is despicable, and you will work for him. You get what I mean?" My face made a befuddled expression. "Despicable? Cyrus?" I voiced out. Kieran's eyes widened and he stood straight leaning at the doorway. I shouldn't have said his name so comfortably. "Cyrus? Why do you call him that? Have you known him before?" Kieran asked like it was a question I must answer. I shook my head at him. "No, it's just that I feel more comfortable calling anyone by their names." Kieran smiled. "If you need my help, I'll be here right away." He beckoned me over, so I stood right beside him at the doorway of my room. He pointed at a black door on the upper floor. It was the only black door there. "That's my room. Just visit me when you need something. Or if you feel too lazy to go upstairs and knock on my elegant black door, just call me, I can hear you." He can hear me? I immediately thought about the mystery of this man. I don't know what exactly he is, but he doesn't seem that dangerous. I slowly turned to face him and raised my head because he was way taller than me. "W-what are you? Or rather, who are you?" I asked and looked at him straight into his almond-black eyes. I couldn't help but stand in awe at the perfection of his face. "Me? My identity is a secret," he immediately replied, as if he had prepared for that question long ago. I squinted my eyes at him, hoping for him to tell me what kind of creature he is. But he didn't say anything. He just looked into my eyes the way I did into his. "But you have a sixth sense, right? You told me you could hear me," I continued. He shook his head with a grin plastered on his thin pink lips. "That is not my sixth sense. I was born with it." Was he born with it? I've never seen a werewolf before who had already unlocked their sixth sense when they were born, but I know it isn't possible. "But are you a werewolf?" His grin remained still and his dimples grew deeper. I couldn't read his expression. I can't sense anything about him. "That is a secret," he replied again. "Even the Alpha King doesn't know my real identity. But if you figure me out, then you are definitely the one." What is he talking about? I hissed at him because I couldn't take his drama anymore. He must have a deep reason why he is keeping his identity a secret; however, it is menacing. And even if he doesn't seem like he would do harm to anyone, I should not trust him too much. "Okay, guess I'll have to fix my things first. See you later." I turned my back to him and attempted to go back inside my room and close the door. "Hey, wait. Have you discovered your seventh sense?" he asked me out of the blue. I took a deep breath and thought deeply about whether I would tell him or not. What if this guy has something under his sleeve? It is such a random question to ask me about my seventh sense. I shook my head. It's not like we, werewolves, try to hide our sixth and seventh senses from anyone anyway. "I still haven't. I've been waiting for it to arrive every day, but Mom said it took her a year after her eighteenth birthday to unlock her seventh sense, so I must not lose hope." Kieran nodded his head. "Tell me when you finally have it. Well then, take your time, and see you at dinner later." He waved his hand goodbye and left my room. I was just there trying to process that strange conversation we had. If even Cyrus doesn't know about Kieran, then he must've made his way here in the castle by being skillful and intelligent. Cyrus must've thought that it would be a waste to let Kieran go. Nonetheless, it's not mine to be concerned about. Who knows if they are best friends? Or if they are related? My seventh sense, what could it be?
