Chapter 18: Sneaking Chocolate

1200 Words
“You better not mess up the next time I ask you to do something for me. This is probably the thousandth time I have told you this.” Cyrus and his cold treatment towards me have been going on for days since the last time that happened between us in the bath. I wonder what it is that made him act so mean to me. HE HAS BEEN TELLING ME TO DO THINGS THAT ARE BEYOND MY ABILITIES! I wouldn't be surprised if one day he would ask me to go to war and shed blood for him. And I wouldn't be surprised if I obeyed him for asking me to shed blood in a war because I adore him so much. Truly, love makes a fool out of yourself. “I apologize, your grace, it won't happen again.” I started to address the imperial family with decent salutations because Ma'am Hasha had warned me of being so impudent. Yeah, maybe I was. “Wait—” I looked back at Cyrus, who stopped me from going out of his workroom. “What happened to your arm?” he asked that question in full seriousness. I looked at my arm and saw the small scar that Kieran caused by pushing me into the wall that day. “Oh, this is nothing, your grace. I just had a small accident,” I replied. Turns out that Lady Thea and Kieran were on that steep stone cliff that night she died. Kylo wasn't wrong. Kieran really is the reason for that poor lady's demise. Kieran, apparently and unfortunately, loved Thea. He was willing to sacrifice his life and identity for her, and that is why he revealed his true self. He thought Thea wouldn't be as surprised as he expected her to be, but she was dumbfounded and greatly petrified, making her fall down the cliff. It was too late for Kieran to save her. After that conversation we had, he never showed himself to me for two whole days and nights. He's just making my mind go crazy by making me wonder what creature he really is. For sure, he is not human, not a werewolf either. Why would Lady Thea be so horrified? What could be the reason? I couldn't help but think about it. If I saw Kieran’s true form, would I also be scared to death? “I can't read your mind anymore. Did you learn to control your thoughts?” Cyrus suddenly asked. I nodded my head at him. Cyrus cleared his throat and crossed his arms as he carefully looked at me. “How's Everlee?” he asked out of the blue. My eyes widened as those words came out of his mouth. My heart strangely felt like it had crumpled into pieces. Why does it feel painful? Why? Everything Everlee must've told me was true. Until now, I am still denying it, telling myself that she was just pranking me to avoid feeling this pain. I forced myself to smile even if tears started to form. I lowered my head and avoided Cyrus's brown eyes. “Do you love my sister, your grace? Why did you break up with her?” I asked with all the strength I still have within me. My voice was rather hoarse. “I never broke up with her. She dumped me.” The tears forming below my eyes rolled back inside as I felt like laughing. I don't even know what's so funny about what he said, but the thought of Everlee dumping this oh-so-mighty Alpha King is very ridiculous! And so, with all heaven's graces, I ended up laughing out loud because I couldn't keep it in anymore. “What is so funny about it? Are you mocking me?” he stated. I heard him thump his table. I shook my head at him. “I just can't believe my sister would do such a thing,” I replied after laughing everything out. His expression didn't change. His usual nonchalant and cold gaze is already permanent if he isn't drunk. I must admit that I like him better when he's drunk because it's during those times that he smiles and says whatever he wants to say. “But something about you bothers me,” he stated and bit his lower lip. “And I don't understand why you are making me go crazy whenever I see you.” My eyes widened even more. I AM MAKING HIM GO CRAZY WHENEVER HE SEES ME? DID I HEAR THE RIGHT THING? DID THOSE WORDS REALLY COME OUT OF HIS HOT MOUTH?! “Your grace, werewolves only love one being for the rest of their lives.” And for me, Cyrus, you are the only being whom I will love for the rest of my life. He nodded his head and leaned forward. His lips formed a small curve. “I know. Did I say I love you?” Oh. He didn't? That is... Embarrassing. “Go and grab me a glass of water. Be here after a minute.” “Uh—okay, your grace.” ‘What the heck is wrong with you, Aquilla Calliope? He just said that he goes crazy whenever he sees you—which could mean that he is outraged or annoyed with your presence! How bold of you to assume it is love!’ How many times would I tell you to shut up? ‘You can't just shut me up whenever you want me to. It's more like you are allowing me to speak.’ If Everlee claims to love Cyrus, then that means we will be loving one man for the rest of our lives. Worse is that Cyrus also loves her, but she dumped him. The three of us are all pathetic individuals. I can't imagine living my life all alone while the love of my life is living happily ever after with my sister. That's horrible. And it's even more horrible that werewolves have to love only one being, and stay loyal and devoted to them for the rest of their lives! My grip on the glass of water tightened as I returned to Cyrus's work room. As I opened the door, I saw him fumbling through his drawers like he had just hiding something. “Here is your glass of water, your grace.” I placed the glass on his table. He didn't even bother looking at me, but his mouth started to rattle. “Return that glass of water to the kitchen and grab me a glass of orange juice instead. Do not put ice. Make haste!” See?! This is how he treats me every now and then. I walked closer to Cyrus and grabbed the glass of water from his table. At that moment, he raised his head and I saw a small clump of dark chocolate at the side of his lower lip. He looked at me with eyes wide open. I smirked at him for being such a clumsy Alpha. He is such a liar for telling me he abhors sweets! “I didn't know you had been sneaking sweets around, your grace.”
